Journey or Destination

Game Period: 01-Dec-2018 00:00:00 to 31-Jan-2019 23:59:59 AEST

It is sometimes said [citation needed] that the game of geocaching is not about the destination it is about the journey. This game is about the choices you make in the experience of the journey or the destination.

On your entry to the game you will be asked to create a playing field with a number of ground tiles. Your playing field is a grid 20 x 20 ground tiles making a total number of 400 possible steps you can take on your journey or destination. You choose whether you want to find and follow the path or whether you wanted to meander around. A playing field is unique to each player so there is no benefit in teaming up to beat the system through brute force.

For each qualifying geocache that you hide or find during the game period you will be offered the opportunity to click on a ground tile and reveal what lies beneath. There are a number of different ground tiles that will be revealed when you click on your playing field. It should be noted that there are no punishments for clicking a tile but there will not always be the reward you were hoping for as you reveal each tile.

Dirt. The ground beneath the ground tile is just plain old brown dirt.

Dirt with some points. The ground beneath the tile is brown dirt but it has some points associated with it.

Concrete. The ground beneath is part of the pathway that will lead you on your way to your destination but has no point value.

Start. A concrete ground tile that has a blue map marker.

Destination. A ground tile that has a green map marker.

Meandering around and avoiding the path will accumulate points that will be used to place on you the ladder of wanderers. The more you stay off the path the higher the number of points you will accumulate and it will be your journey that will be the determining factor in whether you place into a prize winning position. You are free to select any ground tile to click on; they do not need to be next to each other.

Trying to find the path may mean you strike out on the dirt until you eventually come across the path and as a geocacher who can't say that this isn't a tried and true method. Once you find the path however will you try and follow the path as it changes direction around your playing field? Do you go North, South, East or West to try and find the next concrete tile along the path? If you head one way are you heading towards the start or towards the destination? When you do happen upon the destination tile then you will automatically be in a winning position.

At any point you are free to change from the journey to the destination and vice versa but you won't be able to regenerate your playing field. You are also free to keep playing as long as you have qualifying geocaches, accumulating more and more dirt tile points and placing you higher and higher on the ladder.

Qualifying geocaches fall into two categories. Finds and Hides.

A qualifying find is a geocache that meets the following criteria:

The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia

The geocache has a hidden date prior to the game commencing

The geocache was logged by you on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period

The geocache was physically found by you during the game period

The geocache is not owned by you unless it is a moveable geocache

The geocache has not previously been found by you during the game period

The geocache is one of the following types:

Burke and Wills

Moveable (you will qualify only once for a find on a moveable geocache)

Traditional

TrigPoint

Augmented Reality

Beacon

Gadget

Multi-cache

Night Cache

Podcache

Reverse

Unknown or Mystery

A qualifying hide is a geocache that meets the following criteria:

The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia

The geocache has a hidden date after the game has commenced

The geocache was published on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period

The geocache has a container size of regular or larger (Note: A regular geocache has a volume of 1 litre or more)

The geocache is one of the following types:

Moveable

Traditional

Augmented Reality

Beacon

Gadget

Multi-cache

Night Cache

Podcache

Reverse

Unknown or Mystery

The game tracking mechanism relies upon your honesty when logging geocaches as found or hidden.

The games administrators will undertake verification of a statistically significant number of logs.

Players who continually log inaccurate information will be disqualified from the game. The game administrators decision is final.

The game administrators will subtract qualifying hide or find geocaches from your tally if they are found to be not genuine.

The game administrators reserve the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.

Don't forget to claim your limited time game trophies, if your qualify, while the game is in progress. Once the game completes the ability to claim your trophies is lost for ever.

A quick find in an area that has become something of a hot spot for moveable caches in recent times. What moveable cache wouldn't love this area, so many places to hide, not far off the main road and hardly anyone ever stops here. We'll move this one towards the north of the state asap. Love this series of caches, great work! TFTC

This fine summer's evening attended geocaching australia event: The Moveables are Here!!, graciously hosted by Tassie Trekkers at Riverside in northern Tasmania. Was fortunate to make it to the event as was not working and I only noted that it was going to be held on the previous evening - almost missed it. So many moveables in the one spot, roughly 150 in attendance. Nothing for it but to record a couple of notebook pages full of numbers. This the second time that I have crossed paths with eye in the last couple of weeks, hello again, happy travels..!!

Out and about today with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP, I stopped in at the moveable event (GA13269). It was flat out spotting and logging moveable caches - have not seen so much action at a geocaching event before. Luckily there was a nearby GC event after this one, where we could recover with a cuppa and a biscuit. Good luck to everyone for the current GCA game, and thanks to everyone who has published geocaches in time for the event! Cheers.

Found at one of the two events I attended today.
A good turn out by the die-hards to find all these trackables and movables.
A great time had by everyone! I left it on the table.
Thanks!

A moving cache, by nature, may have been moved since you last determined its location. It may have been picked up but not yet rehidden so it's considered 'in-transit'. There is no foolproof method of determining where a cache is simply by the log types that have been placed against the cache. In general the following applies:

A moved log with new co-ordinates indicates that the cache is in the new location ready to be found.
A found log with new co-ordinates indicates that the cache is in the new location ready to be found.
A found log with no new co-ordinates may indicate one of two situations:
The cache has been found and left in place.
The best way to determine this is to read the found log and hopefully the cacher who found the cache has indicated whether it is still in place.
The cache has been found and the cacher has taken it away to re-hide it.
The best was to determine this is to read the found log and hopefully the cacher who found the cache has indicated whether they have taken it away.
In essence, you will need to read the last log to determine whether the cache is in place or whether the cache has been moved. Remember that even though the logs indicate the cache may be at a certain location, it may have been picked up and moved only moments before you arrived. That's part of the challenge of a moving cache; you're never quite sure whether it's a DNF because you can't spot it or it's been moved along.

Saw this come up last night and wondered if I should go and pick it up straight away. However when I went past this morning it was still there so I picked it up today on my way to Snug for an event. Another one for the new summer game. TFTC

Found in Amaroo, ACT in the hands of another cacher. I happened to be heading to that location area for the movies and touched base with the cachers to be informed of some movables. So why not 'find-em' and replace back in hand.
Thanks for the cache.

First up this morning we headed to the National Arboretum and looked for a few caches in the area. We then went to the restaurant and met up with Sol de Lune and Luck L10n for morning tea. We had a very enjoyable time in a location with wonderful views back over Lake Burley Griffin and the surrounding suburbs. Our discussions ranged over many aspects of caching and then other things as well. By the end we had sorted out all the problems in the world - if only they would listen to us!! As we were about to leave, a bag of moveable caches were produced and we busily set about signing the all the logs. After the paperwork was completed, the caches were last seen heading off with Lucky L10n and, no doubt, will be out again soon. This set of caches were very handy for us as they were main reason for us finally being able to get to 200 Dragon Zone finds on a Thursday, a component of one of the Dragon Zone Trophy Challenges. Thanks fitzy_1965 for this cache and the series.

#GA2125 - 15:30; Day one of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. This series was the catalyst for our visit and I remember cursing the CO when I saw they were dropped when I was only a few hundred kilometres away in Melbourne earlier in the month! Anyway, undeterred a plan was hatched and Sdl and I set off early this morning and collecting caches along the way had now reached GZ. Only found three of five to start with, but a little bit of sleuthing revealed a damaged bag and not too far away the two missing moveables. Seems the wildlife may have been disappointed with their find, but Sdl and I were not as we also look like we're the *FTF* Dancing . TFTC fitzy_1965 Very HappyClan Cerberus

SURPRISE !!! Very HappyVery Happy

The lure of 25 moveables, a mere 505klms from home was too much to ignore, so LuckyL10n and I decided a road trip was in order. We left Canberra early this morning and after a few other GCA finds, arrived at this first set of the said moveables. Looking into GZ though we could only find 3 of the 5. Strange we thought, but then noticed a bag on the ground that had obviously been chewed on, and after a short scout around, the missing 2 caches were found. All were in good condition, but it certainly looks like a possum or other animal had decided they wanted to see what was in the bag.

Anyway, caches are good and in the car, and will be left in appropriate named cities/towns soon.

Thanks fitzy....nothing like an impromptu road trip for a bit of fun...... ClappingClappingClan CerberusClan CerberusLaughingLaughing
