Description
Bushranger Series - Ned Kelly Beechworth
Beechworth.
The historical buildings at Beechworth are in excellent condition owing to recent restoration projects. Wander around Beechworth Gaol. The Beechworth Museum is excellent. It has some fantastic exhibits related to the Kelly Gang and gives the visitor a true opportunity to taste Beechworth's history.
Bushrangers.
Over 2,000 bushrangers are estimated to have roamed the Australian countryside, beginning with the convict bolters and drawing to a close after Ned Kelly's last stand at Glenrowan.
Bushrangers were originally escaped convicts who had the survival skills necessary to use the Australian bush as a refuge to hide from the authorities. By the 1820s, the term "bushranger" had evolved to refer to those who abandoned social rights and privileges to take up "robbery under arms" as a way of life, using the bush as their base.
Bushranging thrived during the gold rush years of the 1850s and 1860s when the likes of Ben Hall, Frank Gardiner and John Gilbert led notorious gangs in the country districts of New South Wales. These Wild Colonial Boys typically robbed small-town banks and coach services.
In other infamous cases, such as that of Dan Morgan, the Clarke brothers, and Australia's best-known bushranger, Ned Kelly, numerous policemen were murdered.
The number of bushrangers declined due to better policing and improvements in rail transport and communication technology, such as telegraphy. Kelly's capture and execution in 1880 effectively represented the end of the bushranging era.

Logs
All safe and dry as a bone.
TFTC Just a catcher.
Cache on.
The red and white toadstools are amazing and are popping up everywhere.
Sadly the log book is a soggy mess, in spite of being in a ziplock bag, which also had water in it. We dried it out as best we could, but this cache needs some love.
I am surprised that this ca he container did not keep the contents dry
Thanks for the cache Just a Cacher.
Another Black Bunny crosses off the list, but they seem to be appearing faster than I am finding them

We were heading back up the Hume to go home after a good day around Glenrowan, and we checked the old eyephone and discovered that there was still a new one up for grabs in sunny Beechworth, so the next exit to here was taken and we were apparently take the scenic route home.
We all jumped out when we got to the park and wandered up to GZ looking up at the tall trees, with dad thinking he could shoot a rope up these for a climb....but not today.....it was ground level caches we were on the hunt for today....
The three of us circled GZ for a bit before the queen spotted the well hidden cache and we signed our lives away.
Thanks for the great day of new caches in the area.
