Description

Cathedrals in Australia - All Saints' Cathedral, Bathurst

The cathedral church of the diocese is All Saints' Cathedral, Bathurst in the heart of the city. The cathedral building was originally designed by Edmund Blacket in 1845 as a parish church, but became a cathedral in 1870 with the creation of the Diocese of Bathurst. An organ was installed in 1886 and bells were hung in 1855. In the 1890s, however, the bell tower was found to be unstable, so the bells could not be "rung full circle" but only by striking them. Remaining tower of former cathedral

Due to structural problems the original cathedral was demolished in 1969–70 and replaced in 1971 by a new building constructed in a 20th-century style. In 2009, the bells were rehung in a new bell tower attached to the new cathedral.

Winter 2020 trip to Bathurst. Day 2. I joined forces with Fitzy_1965 and MinnieK for another visit to Bathurst and the surrounding area to visit new caches and try to find caches we have all managed to not find on previous visits. It was an overwhelmingly successful trip where we all managed to find some nemesis caches that stretch back several years and many trips to the region. Despite the cold we camped each night and had a most enjoyable weekend now we are allowed out to roam a bit further.

Thanks
Albida

Photo is me trying to get the sun shining through the stain glass window. My phone camera is pretty poor quality so I really couldn't capture it. You can see a streak of blue on the photo at least. haha.

#GA2422 - 13:50; Day five, the last day of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney. After an enjoyable few days based in Leura, the time had come to pack up and head for home. It was also time to do one last quick caching run around the area while the other half finished getting ready for the trip. After collecting some caches in Leura and doing a sweep through Wentworth Falls, we were now packed up and headed for home the back way through Bathurst, Orange and Canowindra with a view to adding a few caches as well as a few dragonZones to the tally. After reaching Bathurst we headed off to have a look at the Mount Panorama circuit, stopping for some trigs along the way as well as at the top of the mountain Dancing The fun part dealt with, it was back into the town for a few more stops including the two cathedrals.
