Description

One of my favourite picnic places - Robert Neumann park in Currumbin Valley

I love picnics and BBQs and insist that we have one on a regular basis. This cache is the start of a series on some of my favourite picnic and/or BBQ places. For each of them I will describe what I particularly like about each spot and what facilities each one has just in case you are planning your own picnic.

Robert Neuman Park, is just above a big waterhole that some birds such as swans, ducks, and swamp hens like to swim in, although it needs a good flush out so I wouldn't want to swim in it. Its also just at the start of the valley if you want to go for a driving adventure afterwards. There are always lots of birds around, so bring a tablecloth for the table. The council tries to keep it all clean but sometimes the birds win.

The park has two electric BBQs, the one on the right works better; it also has a large picnic shelter with four tables; plus a kids playground with swings and a slippery dip; and toilets. My humans tell me this is important, but what do I know - there is always the bush.

Samboo and Max enjoy a BBQ at Robert Neumann Park

Good news... the local council lady says that they are just about to start updating the park. I hope there will be new BBQs for my sausage sizzle.

The kind of bad news is that there is new seating coming which means the old seat where I hid my cache is about to be gone.

Will wait for them to finish updating and after I have road tested the new facilities of course, will work out a new hiding spot and enable this one again.

The council lady said it could be a couple of months. First part they are updating is the playground... should be the BBQs. Anyway.

Not sure what is happening. They have done nothing to the park.

Maybe I ought to put the cache back until they start digging.

We checked this cache the other day because we (petan and I) have been creating a new adventure lab in the area.

Unfortunately, the container is missing. We haven't replaced it because the local council lady said they are going to redevelop the park soon. I hope they put in a new BBQ because the old one is slow.

We found it! Our very first ever find, we have just started playing. We literally live across the road from the park so thought we would wander down for a little look. Nice love the stealthy container!

After picnicking in Murwillumbah, I was still hungry so I started to research other good picnic locations. Samboo knows them all, so I decided to see what this one was all about. I arrived and there were a heap of parked cars at GZ, but not a soul to be seen - I had the place to myself.

I've driven past quite a few times, but never stopped in here. The search for Samboo's cache was on, and thanks to a clever hint, I had it pretty quickly. I noticed that I am infact 4th to sign the physical log, yet only 3rd online.

A beautiful place, and very picnic worthy. Well done Samboo - I'm now going to research the rest of your caches. I hope the new dinosaurs around town don't scare you too much.

#GA3009 - 13:05; The geotribe was doing a bit of last minute retail therapy, so I headed out for some last minute caching around Currumbin before we packed our bags and headed south for home tomorrow. After an unscheduled stop for a history cache on the way here, I parked the geomobile and made my way to GZ. Luckily there wasn't too much muggle activity in the area, so I was able to undertake the hunt unhindered. The GPSr had me a few metres away from GZ, but a process of elimination soon produced the cache. A nice little park, although I must admit I have a preference for the beach when I'm this far north! Today Samboo's Fav Picnic Place was our favourite too. After unsuccessfully getting a park due to holiday crowds at the last two caches, Robert Neumann Park was an absolute surprise, there was no one here, car parks everywhere - it was like a dream. Shocked And then we pulled out the log . . . another dream, {FTF} at 1.18pm. Very Happy TFTC SambooBear
