Description

This cache is best accessed from the same parking area as for cache 'Dial One For Gnomen'.

Along the way in the track will take you close to cliff tops...so please take care.

Follow the Mt. Gnomen track to near the top of the ridge where a sign posted track leads off to the left.....continue until reaching another junction at

S41 09.996  E146 02.563  .....turning right for a short distance along the ridge to the highest point....Mt. Dial.

Good views to the east....and with Mt. Duncan to the south.

The cache is a black 1lt container with logbook, pencil and swaps.

Enjoy!

After coffees in Penguin, here we are for another visit to the Gnomon. Last time was well before we knew anything about caching. We're well ahead of schedule, so we decided to summit Mt Dial as well. Good lunch spot out of the wind, great views, and a very well placed cache in excellent condition. Logged and returned as found. Thanks Sirius Tas for suggesting we needed to go to the absolute top of this pile of old rocks. Clan MinotaurSmile

Out and about climbing a mountain and stopped to grab this cache. A bit damp and overcast but still a great walk. TFTC

Fantastic walk up Gnomon and across to Mt Dial. Thanks so much for pointing out this obscure track to the true summit with spectacular views all around. I roamed around in circles for a while but trusted the gps, once at the correct level, I spotted this but GZ is not in an easy location to spot. Took a pathtag. Thanks for the excellent adventure.

Before the event today, A walk to Mt Dial was needed. One of my D / T combo I needed to complete the chart was on top of Mt Dial, so it had to happen. The walk was challenging as the first part was like climbing 50 sets of stairs. A few rests were required until we reached Mt Gnonmen. From there the track was fairly easy, well in comparsion.
Passed a number of other people on track - mainly runners (I think the local asylum must have lost quite a few people if running up here for fun is considered..... Anyway were got the main target - the Mt Dial GC cache and then continued on to this one. Took a little while to find the cache. Coordinates were accurate, but I started on the wrong level and had to reduce my Altitude

TFTC - Well worth the walk to the top!!

I had 3 hours until dark so i took the chance to climb Mount Gnomon to grab the GC cache, once i got that one i had plenty of time up my sleeve and this one was only just around the ridges so i made the decision to go for it.
when at GZ the GPS had me looking 6m from the actual caches location but after a brief 10 minute search i came up with the cache,
i was surprised how it was still in great dry order considering it had not been found since 2016.

We were doing a loop walk from the Mt Gnomon car park to the Ferndene Reserve picnic area. We'd located one cache already on Mt Gnomon (DNF'd another) and were now atop the last peak for the day. The clouds were getting heavier however still no rain. Once again we had some very nice views, particularly towards Ulverstone and the sea plus over the hills to the east. We soon found the cache and completed the caching duties. Cache is dry and in good condition.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West Coast.

This was the 3rd cache find today and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk to all of them. Made a quick find then enjoyed the surroundings before tackling the return journey which took 31/2 hours. Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache sirius. Left Pathtag.

Great bushwalk and cache hunting today, with outstanding views from all caches hides today, loved every minute of it thanks sirius

Whoops, sorry TipTopTas and Sirius regarding the locking rock over the cache. I can't blame the kids for this rehide as I remember sending them on ahead to make up time while I scampered over the rocks to return the cache to it's hidey hole. Ahhh well, the challenges make us stronger.

Nice easy find using the hint, no muggles finding this one you would have to wonder what they were doing down there if they did.

You know how sometimes you can just slip an object into a hole but for some strange quirk of science it becomes virtually impossible to get it back out of the same hole? CarrollEyre had inadvertently managed this with a rock hiding the cache. Spent several minutes wiggling and puzzling before the thing finally just dropped out and we could get the cache.

Lovely spot

Crystal clear skies allowed us to see to the distant edges of the horizon from the sea over to the snow capped mountains thus bringing a smaile to our dials. Of course finding the cache also helped with the smile factor.
Our route was starting from Keddles Creek carpark on the Dial Road and walking up the PCT track along Keddles Creek, this was a challenging due to great number of large trees that had fallen across the track. We were relieved to finally reach the ridge and the much clearer Dial Range track, our speed finally reached respectable rates at the top. After Grab a Smiley, we walked south along the range along the much longer route to the car park, the track has recently been cleared of the fallen trees and is freshly marked with pink tape allowing our family to make fast progress.
A great walk along some of the most scenic and spectacular mountain ranges that is so close to town.....
Thanks Sirius for yet another terrific cache, another one to bring a smile to the dial.

Another Dial cache and the last mountainous one for me today. That last stretch really had me going and then I couldn't find the cache.
Geosphere only has the coords - no logs, no description, no hints. nothing.
Eventually found it whilst enjoying the views.
TNLN thanks for the cache sirius!

Magnificent blue sky, no wind - a perfect day to tackle a couple of caches in the Dial Range. After a pleasant walk, a quick find and we set off for the next one. Great views from this location. TFTC

Very Happy Up this way with a group from the LWC. Did a quick dash along the track for a quick find thanks to the clue. Weather clear and good views all around. TNLN. TFTC!

Nice walk in the early morning.
Cant believe I couldnt find it on my first trip up here.

Found this without too much trouble on a day out with Redtag and Nerebil. Love this walk, and given the state of the track I did amazingly well with no injuries. Thanks for the cache! I grabbed the coin in it to send along its way.

Another excellent cache sirius.
and as for the company, the views, the walk, the weather ...well they were excellent too.
This one was a little trickier to find but Neribil spotted it and luckily he has orangutan arms so he was able to reach it for us as well.
Thanks for the cache

Top views on a nice spring day. Easy find. TNLN Thanks

Found this on a very foggy, rainy, windy day. TFLC

The weather finally cleared and we were able to see some of the farmland to the west but our view to the east was nil. A fairly arduous climb for us old f***ts.

Found by Team Tiges. Our first cache in ages, I think it might be our first in 2009.

Wandered up on a lovely autumn afternoon with The Captain, had been meaning to check out this trail from Gnomon on to Dial and had never found the time. Looks like the track has been recently re-taped. Bumped into a bunch of scouts up there on a walk too, they seemed a little wierd and reluctant to talk. Do I have a body odour problem or something?

Anyway, easily found. Good cache, good hide, good work as usual Sirius!

I have had this plan to find this cache ,the dial 2 for duncan cache and one other before the fine weather finishes. this is #2.
it is quite a difficult walk for an old guy but very enjoyable on a fine no wind day. I also hid a cache half way along the second part of the track, "dial up a cache". While hiding that cache 9 young men came along on mountain bikes, hard enough on foot let alone those things!
The caches in this area are spectacular just what caching needs.

For once a mountain climb that wasn't horribly steep!! This was nice walking and the sun was hidden away so it wasn't as hot as it could have been. The grey skies and horizon all misty gave the mountains a mysterious and dramatic quality. To be honest, I thought the Gnomon lookout was more impressive than this one because of its unobstructed views and dramatic sheer cliff edge, but it was nice all the same. Took nothing, left a pair of glasses. TFTC.

Mission accomplished - a smiley on the Dial!!! Very nice walk up from the Gnomon carpark - didn't seem to take too long, found cache in perfect condition. Had a comfy seat for a while while I perused my map and had a bite to eat and admired the views. From Mum and Dad's we look over to the tops of this range, but the trees just seemed to be blocking the way when I tried to look back over. Headed back going over the Gnomon, and back around the little Tall Trees track circuit. Great! Thanks Sirius.

Came to find this one after Montgomery, bit of a detour off of the PCT, but well worth it. Thought I must be near it when I arrived at a huge boulder, so plonked the backpack down and dug out the GPS, swithched it on - 80m to go. Gps took me to the correct spot, found in first place I looked (i'ts gotta happen sometimes!). More brilliant views, took some photos, bite to eat and bactracked to PCT to go find 'Ring Ring Manfern'. Cache in good order.
Thanks Sirius

Thanks for another great cache - always wanted to bag this last peak ( more of a pimple really on the spine of the range) Turned out the easiest of the Dial group, very suitable for kids and dogs as the path is wide, sheltered, and there aren't any scary drops unless you wander significantly off trail, and probably a better access to Gnomon as well - a detour goes right past the cache on the track back. Last time i tried to get up here to place a cache via ferndene track found it impossibly overgrown (passed the signposted descent to Ferndene about 250 M from the cache. good toilet and picnic opportunities at Ferndene on the drive to and from.)
The cache being placed off 'track' ( ie lest vegetated areas ) proved elusive - geopup set up wail that it was all taking too long; confirmed the position with cache owner before trampling the greenery and found it. Lots of little greenhood orchids just starting to flower. Round trip leisurely 2hrs 41 mins

Thought the day was looking ok so took Hingpebble for a stroll to have a look for this one. Thought having a bit of a walk for #300 would be worthy and so it was.

Got to the top without any difficulties, found the cache without any troubles either and retreated out of the wind for Hingpebble to rummage through the swaps while I signed the log.

Had a brief break for the pebble to have a bite to eat and a drink, took some photos and headed down.

Detoured to the Gnomon on the way back for more speccy views, then all down hill to the car.

Thanks Sirius, nice hide.

Found today, my first FTF and first cache on a loop that took me up the Myrtle Ck track, over Mt Dial and the Gnomon for the second cache, down the Tall Trees track and old Dial Rd, up the Keddies Ck track for my third cache and back on to the Myrtle Ck track to go back to the car.
This is a lovely loop which goes right past the 3 caches, but only for the energetic!
Thanks for the cache, Sirius, it gave me the motivation to do the walk, and the views are great.

Hint for finding: It is exactly where the clue says it is.

Carried on along the track after finding Dial one for gnomon.
Great little walk and tremendous views at GZ.
All good until I started to search....and search....and search.
I looked for over an hour for the bloody thing and came away empty handed.
Ah well, thats life....another day maybe.
Thanks Sirius (I think!)
