Description

The Plenty Link Rd, dubbed the Southern Explorer, is about 40km long and connects the Glenfern and Glenora roads intersection on the outskirts of New Norfolk with Lonnavale Rd near Judbury In the Huon Valley. It was intended to provide a valuable tourism link for both regions but was found to be unfeasible in a report by consulting company Jacobs Australia in May 2015. Today it is mainly used by locals, log trucks and wood hookers.

There are some amazing views of the surrounding hills and mountains as you traverse this link, and don't miss a stop at the wild rivers that flow under narrow one lane bridges along the way.

There is a whole quarry to park in here!

If you started from the Northern end then you are almost at the end of the journey, and just a stones throw from the Huon Valley.

A quick find with the clue. Sneaky camo for this spot! TFTC and thanks for the sensible placement away from the dangerous stuff above that looks like it could fall at any moment!

Today our plan was to cache along the Plenty Valley Rd and this was one we found on our journey. Enjoyed the drive and scenery along this road that we had not traversed before. Thanks for bringing us to a new location. We love exploring these back roads. Soon located GZ and a fitting hide. Certainly plenty of views along this stretch.

Many thanks gooseandegg for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

Thanks for the cache Gooseandegg. Out today with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP. Neither of us had ever driven along this road before, so it was all a new experience for us (the GeoGSP is not allowed to drive, but he is very good putting his head out of the wind with his tongue hanging out Very Happy ). Burntout car #2 for the day was spotted here. Thanks for the very useful hint, we spotted GZ from the car, making for a nice quick find. Good views heading south, cheers!

Hello gooseandegg thanks for the cache.

I had been to a moist event at Franklin and was planing on coming back home this was so when I heard you, StainlessSteelRat and Toolman were also coming home this way I tagged along for the trip.
As the trip continued this cache was second to be found.

TFTC.

Quick find for me as I was here when it was placed Laughing

This is the second time we have come down this road, today we are going South to North with the company of 1TOOLMAN and Alby, a few of the caches along this route were known to myself and gooseandegg since we were together when we place our caches only a week ago.
After an event down at Huonville myself goose and 1TOOLMAN had planned to drive back to Hobart via this road, yeah I know a bit out of the way but hey that's caching, Alby had asked to join us and we were more than happy to have him follow us North.
Another great day out collecting some new caches, where everyone got a few finds.

Thanks for the cache.

Our GPS had at last decided to recognise the road we were on and to stop trying to make a 6k journey into an 124k trip. This section of road was very slushy an reminiscent of the farm road Mrs Y'stassie and her siblings used to mud board on in their youth. No time for mud boarding today as the light was beginning to fade and our friends were waiting in New Norfolk.

We loved the rock formations in this quarry and spent a little time looking around. The views across the valley were also attractive in the late afternoon light.

Good coordinates and hint made for a quick find of a very appropriate cache for this area. Container and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for this cache GooseandEgg we enjoyed have a quick look around the quarry perhaps a site for an earth cache.

Hey weren't we on this road we have never been all the way through from South to North on Saturday? Today we decided to travel North to South, another 200 km round trip to find more newly published caches and this was the eighth on our list. Accurate coords and hint led to us to GZ. We hope the cache doesn't disappear as this area still seems to be in use. They were rolling and putting gravel down just up above here. We were lucky to get here. If we had listened to the car GPSr at the last cache 6 km behind, she/he would have had us doing a U turn and travelling 126 km to this GZ! All these great caches to find on the Plenty Link Road now, just know that the road goes all the way through! There was more traffic being a work day, especially closer to Huonville where there were roadworks. TFTC

Hi goose
Had received notice that one of my caches may have gone so went to check on it today - all fixed now
However, the truth is - some new caches were available and the temptation was too great!
(Rats to the hiders - only went through here a couple of days ago)
Any way, got to and logged this one at...
Sainted at 1003 hours with a quick find.
I had one nearby here but it disappeared three times, so hope this one has a better longevity
The two rocks are even flatter now
Clean sheet for a *FTF* - thank you
TFTC, the second trip and cheers
