Description

Based on what is left of this old tree, it must have been one of the true old giants of the forest, perhaps even a majestic landmark they help the eye of passers by. Nowdays, if it is used as a landmark, it would be something like "hang a right at the old stump". I wonder what it was used for, building, fencing, firewood or wood chips? Perhaps there was enough to keep everyone happy.

You'll need to step up to reach the cache but it's not too difficult.

First time staying at River's Edge so went exploring for caches! Well we found GZ of the Old Giant and went to step up only to look down and discover I was standing on a bull ant nest. They were HUGE!!! I screamed and ran and called for Newy07 to get the heck away from there! Went back a bit later to see if we could access from another side or even use the bull bar on the cruiser to get up but, NO WAY, I could not get the courage to go near those creepy crawling things, urgh AnxiousBrick Wall
But thanks for placing a cache out here gooseandegg so we could explore this beautiful area.
Cheers

"Hello gooseandegg thank you for the cache.

I had come out here to find a few caches I hadn't found.
I looked in the wrong spot and got stung by a jack jumper for my troubles.
The cache was soon found after that.

hi g&e, thanks for the cache that I found today with KingSmev, after dropping off geoTeenRef for his Cricket Match at Judbury.
Took a few minutes, but once I put the correct coords into the GPS, all was well.
Cheers, EPs.

Went caching in the Huon area today with ABear71. Still a bit smokey around Judbury but Lonnavale was quite clear with plenty of campers along the river. aus2 claimed the find. Thanks for the cache Gooseandegg.

Today our plan was to cache along the Plenty Valley Rd and this was one we detoured on our journey to find. Enjoyed the drive and scenery along this road that we had not traversed before. Thanks for bringing us to a new location. We love exploring these back roads. Quick find here.

Many thanks gooseandegg for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

Thanks for the cache Gooseandegg. Out today with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP. Neither of us had ever driven along this road before, so it was all a new experience for us (the GeoGSP is not allowed to drive, but he is very good putting his head out of the wind with his tongue hanging out Very Happy ). Very impressive stump, it took ages for RLD4963 to do a full lap before he found the right way to access the cache Very Happy . I like this road, the forest is beautiful. all is good at GZ, cheers.

Hi gooseandegg,
Heard so much about the Russell Rd area but had never been here before.
A fallen giant from many yrs ago.
Another top cache...many thanks...cheers ST.

What a busy day this was, a quick find since I was there when it was placed and as much turning your back as I did it was a good guess where the cache was.

Sure i'll be back out here when other place some caches or I do......

After spending the night in New Norfolk we headed off early to look for the caches in the Russell River area. As we were not familiar with the area and hadn't done much research we followed our driving GPS which took us on a very circuitous route along an old, less maintained road than the one we should have followed. The trees along the old road were fabulous.

After finding a GC cache near the creek we made our way carefully up to this cache. Love these old relics of past logging activities. They make you wonder what the forest looked like in those days. Cache was found without any problem and was in good order.

Thanks for a GCA cache in this area GooseandEgg.

After finding nine newly published caches on the Plenty Link Road we decided to head further west as what is another few km to add to our 200 km round trip to find more newly published caches and this was the tenth GCA on our list. We haven't been in this area for years. A pleasant drive. Accurate coords and hint led to a quick find. Mr W did the step up! TFTC

Hi goose
Had received notice that one of my caches may have gone so went to check on it today - all fixed now
However, the truth is - some new caches were available and the temptation was too great!
The six done on the track between HOOTERS and the VALLEY OF LOVE, these two were left for a later time. Lunch with Mum and Anne, logged this morning's finds and .... temptation got the better of me again. The cache mobile was warmed up again and off I go..
Any way, got to and logged this one at...
Sainted at 1555 hours with a quick find.
Laughed my head off when I got to this one. Anne and I stopped to look at the tank and I wondered whether or not to hide a cache here. Decided against it, but obviously, GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!
Clean sheet for a *FTF* - thank you
TFTC, and cheers
