Description

Take the Lowana Road south where the Penguin Cradle Trail resumes at S41 19.993 E146 00.062

The trail initially follows an old road for 400m then the trail proper swings left along the banks of the Leven River....until you see a large rock butress

appearing on the opposite side...where the trail then veers up steeply to avoid the northern exit of the Leven Gorge....which is known locally as the

Northern Gates. The return walk should take only 20-30 minutes.

The cache is near the high point and 7-8m off the track. Cache is a black sistema with logbook, pencil and small swaps.

Enjoy!

What a lovely walk to this cache - well apparent from the last 140 metres, which turned into an uphill slog.

The first part of the walk was lovely, nice wide track, dappled sun coming through the trees. There were a couple of small trees down over the track which were easily avoided, but at one point a few trees had fallen and made a difficult climb through the fallen trees have to happen. No doubt this has happened recently.

The last 140 metres at least gave a good view of the Northern Gates, although it took me a little while to find the cache as it was well hidden, and I didnt fancy poking around under the boulders.

The was back down was a bit difficult due to the slipperiness, but well worth the inconvenience

TFTC. 5 Thumbs Up!

Wow nearly 4 years since the last find. Cache was well entombed in its hidey hole and needed prising out. A good workout to reach this one but a rewarding find.Cache & contents in good condition. Thanks sirius Tas

An early start and a quick breather on the way into Blackwood Camp here at the top of the first of many ups and downs as it turned out!

The first find at the start of our walk up the gorge. We walked right past it in our excitement to get going on the trip, I had to drop my pack and come back for it.

Lot of trees down in the area of the cache and the gps was pointing right at them. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to scratch about in the dirt but found the cache quickly, and safely intact, using common sense instead of technology.

It was actually nice to walk back the 150m we had gone past the cache just to see the different perspective.

Another hill climb - wheres my mountain goat gone?
Made it slowly up to GZ and took in the view.
Took me a little minute to find the cache as my GPSr wasn't playing properly - kept pointing the arrow in the wrong direction.
TNLN, thanks for the cache and the view sirus

It was a pleasant walk along the river bank. The climb was steep and a few pauses were needed. Thankfully, we reached the top about 25 minutes after setting out and after a short hunt around, the cache was in hand. The walk out was a little faster, taking us 50 minutes for the return walk. It is an interesting area which we assume would be spectacular when the river was in full flow. Thanks sirius for another great cache.

Picked this up while checking the track to Blackwood Camp for damage after the recent floods with other NWWC members. Easy find using the clues. Cache in good order and dry. Track had minimal damage with the odd tree fallen over it. TFTC

20 to 30 minutes return turned into 50 minutes due to the wind damage that has turned this track into a major obstacle course. An easy find once we reached the co-ords. Came out smelling like piss ants. They were everywhere. Thanks Sirius.

Was really pleased for the excuse for a rest after the walk up the hill! Got this one on my way to Blackwood Camp, the track already looking exciting. Good place for a cache. On these longer walks, it's really great to be able to get one along the way. It also gives a mini goal to walk towards. Next one only (several?) kms away!!! thanks sirius!!! I enjoyed it.

Got this on the way back from Blackwood Camp (wanted the Devil's Gauntlet to be #100). Thanks for the cache and a nice rest.

Picked this one up when going to blackwood camp.
Another good cache placement.
Thanks Sirius

almost walked straight past it but luckily Neribil was there to point me in the right direction. I must have been thinking about something else.....like being the first to finish the current Gauntlet series? or....making sure I finished top of the dashboard for 2008? or.....left foot, right foot, left foot.....

Unlike some went for this cache in daylight, dont have a deathwish like some. Met Geoskid and family for the first time at the carpark and we went on together. Good walk on a track quite steep and slippery in places. At gz we had problems with gps lock but as we were close we used the hint looking for it in a crvice under a big rock among many many big rocks. but we did come up with the goods. An enjoyable cache on a very nice day.

Was good to meet Robtas & Jantas at start of walk to this cache, should have snapped a pic for 'Spotto'. Took a little while to find cache as my GPSr died and Robtas's was saying we still had way to go, eventually got it with help of clue though. Thanks Sirius.

This was cache of the day for me - brilliant.
Parked the car in the dark and made my way along the old road by torchlight. Found the track as dawn was breaking alowing glimses of the river below.
Lost the track, so followed the arrow and found it again.
At GZ I looked for 10 mins before finding the goods - was starting to worry that I wouldnt find it.
Walked out in daylight - a most enjoyable experience.
Thanks Sirius.
