Description

This is a three stage multicache that involves a total walk of around 3km

This hill was my backyard growing up.  I've lost count of the amount of times I have walked around the loop track or walked to the top to look at the views.  I never get sick of the walk, and I can assure you that there are no lighthouses on Natone Hill.

To complete this multi, plus go to WP1 at the listed co-ordinates and take note of the information on the sign.  There are four lines of text on the sign.

A = Number of letters in the first word on  the second line

B = Number of letters in the third  word in the first line

C = Number of words on the second line plus 1

D = Number of letters in second word on the second line

E = How many horses are depicted on the sign

F = Number of letters in the seventh word on the third line minus 4

WP2 can be found at: South 42 50.ABC  East 147 20.DEF

At WP2 the information on the sign will assist in finding the co-ordinates for GZ

G = If walking to the summit, the type of walking is described as ->   number of letters minus 2

H = Total number of dogs depicted on this sign

I = If walking to Tianna Rd, the type of walking is described as ->  number of letters

J = Number of letters in the suburb Tianna Rd is in minus 4

K = Number of letters in the first word of the name of this reserve minus 1

L = how many horses are depicted on this sign plus 1

GZ can be found at 42 South 42 50.GHI Eanst 147 203.JKL

Please take care approaching GZ.  A lot of this hill was burnt in a bushfire in February 2017.  A lot of the fallen treens are blackened and the undergrowth is sparse and sensitive.  Stick to formed tracks as much as possible, and enjoy the views on your way around.

Needed to stretch the legs this afternoon after a soggy day stuck indoors. Can't moan though as we really need the rain! This was the perfect walk and the views from GZ were great! TFTC!

Day 2 at Natone Hill Reserve with Newy07. Was a great afternoon and certainly got a good work out, which I really enjoyed and needed, but also enjoyed the spectacular views over the Derwent.
Realised toward the end of the day we were going in the opposite direction to Budgietas and must have passed each other at some stage without knowing, maybe when we were at the bottom of the hill finding WP2, and just before discovering we had to climb back up to the summit Doh. Bummer we missed out on an opportunity to meet him Sad

Hi Lil Rafa

Combined this multi while finding the recently placed geoart.

The undergrowth was saturated so wet from knees down.

No trouble extracting info from both wpts and had gz earmarked.

Following the geoart trail was even wetter on the river side of Natone Hill but soon arrived at gz.

Spot on coords made for a quick find with cache in top nick.
Interesting to see a viewing platform built above the cache.
Certainly awesome views from here. Today the fog was lying over the river with the mountains projecting up above the fog.

Thoroughly enjoyed the multi and its final location.

Many thanks for a top cache...very much appreciated...cheers ST.

This cache has been on our "must do" list for a long time. It was a beautiful morning so we decided to turn this multi into our morning walk. We arrived at WP1 along with 3 muggles and an assortment of hounds. Muggles and hounds headed off swiftly leaving us to collect the information needed to do the calculations that would lead us to WP2. Off we went admiring the view across the water that unfolded as we got closer to WP2. We were now sharing this section of the loop track with many dog walking muggles. It was nice to see so many people out so early on Sunday morning.

On reaching WP2 we spotted the info board and had no trouble following the clear instructions for data collection. We had an idea of where we would be heading and our calculated coordinates confirmed our suspicions. Fortunately this track appears not very popular Sunday morning walkers as we only met 2 muggles while we were on it. We stopped several times to enjoy the view and take photos. The MONA cat looked good heading up the sparkling river.

When we were 40 m from GZ we were forced to leave the track and bush bash or more correctly grass and rock hop to the hide. What beautiful views!! Well worthy of the final location for this enjoyable multi. On peering in we spotted the cover and soon extracted the cache container. It and its contents were in good condition. After signing the log and replacing everything as found we stood back to ponder the long term fate of this box. It is well hidden so should not be muggled. However a fourth trunk is growing opposite the hide. At present it is about 1m tall and 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter - easy enough to reach around now but how long will it take to grow to the size of the 3 burnt trunks? Maybe one of the burnt trunks will collapse so that there wont be a problem of the cache container becoming imprisoned. It is pleasing to see the regeneration that has occurred since the fire went through.

Thanks for an interesting multi Lil Rafa. We enjoyed the walk, the views and the final destination. And yes no lighthouse was seen.

I went to Hobart with a “ shopping list” of caches and this was one on my list. As with all my shopping lists I sometimes gets things not on the list and some things on the list get missed out because I can’t find them !! This one was all good at WP1 but I made some arithmetic errors st WP2 which I corrected and then was up, up and away to the cache. Found a trig on the way unexpectedly. Cache was easily found and then the hike down the hill and back to the car. TFTC and showing me this reserve

Hi LilRafa

Had the need to hunt some plastic today for the States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt

TRAVEL:
Left Huonville and made my first find at Kingston, the next one in Lidisfarne, then over to Kangaroo Bay for one and finally to Cambridge for the last two finds of the day
All up I travelled 108.3 kilometres to find five caches
This required I walk a total of 3.85 kilometres burning 1175 calories and taking 5032 steps.

WEATHER:
Most of the time the temperature ranged from 17 degrees Celsius to twenty degrees.
Skies were clear and blue
A great day weather wise for caching

GA11212 “Natone Hill Has No Lighthouse”
I had already found one cache whilst travelling to this cache. Parked in now a familiar spot from which one gets to find caches.
I dislike this walk intensely as it rises far too quick for this old cacher but the views well and truly compensate that discomfort.
Arrived at ground zero to make a very quick find; Sainting the cache at 1042 hours
Took some great flicks and hid three moveables on the way back to the car.
TFTC and cheers

We saw this cache when it was first published but never had time for the walk before we headed up north for Christmas. So today was the day to answer the questions and locate the cache. We set off early before it got too hot, but it was windy. Only one discussion at WP2 as two sides to the sign. Does that mean we double some things? We always say multis are cause for divorce, but survived today. Mrs W only just survived the uphill slog! The cache was found and log signed. Didn't hang around long as worried about the wind in the burnt out trees and whether they would fall over. Did enjoy the great view.

Sorry about the lengthy logs. We are currently aiming for a dragon zone virtual verbosity trophy. We have just received the 100 word trophy, so now aiming for the 150 word trophy. For all new GCA cachers, a warning, write a decent log to start with in case you want to get these virtual trophies down the track. Having now passed 2000 GCA finds with a lot of one word logs (on many moveables) makes for a lot of typing now!

We are participating in the States of the Nation games which are currently running from 16 December 2017 until 21 January 2018 and will claim this find against one of the scavenges.

States of the Nation is a real and virtual geocaching scavenger hunt where your home state will compete against other Australian states to find and hide geocaches. Over the 5 week course of the game there will be hundreds of scavenges that you can track down, find and convert into points for your state. Some scavenges will be easy. Some scavenges will be tough. Some scavenges may be impossible. Don't despair. You are not competing just for yourself; you are competing as a state.

There will be a number of scavenges released on a weekly basis but each scavenge will remain until the end of the game. This means even if you decide to join the game part way through, the early scavenges are still available for you to claim. Scavenges will require you to find a geocache, hide a geocache, attend an event or do something else completely different. The game focuses on all aspects of geocaching and so all cache types, sizes, terrain and difficulty will be up for scavenging. TrigPoints, Events, History, Virtual, Webcam, Podcache and Locationless geocaches are all scavengable, so you're not just looking for a box under a bush. Each week there will be a mix of physical, non-physical and locationless geocaches so even if you are not in a geocache rich area, use the locationless component of scavenger series to get out, find something to log and gain points for your state. If you watch the scavenges as they are released you might also spot the 'not so hidden' patterns and plan for future weeks of the series.

Hiding geocaches will also be a large part of the scavenger series, but please remember this is a game of geocaching and geocaches that you hide should be long lasting, be of good quality and you should be proud of what you hide. Please avoid hiding a geocache just for the day so your state can find it before you archive it. Geocaches that exist for a short period of time may result in any claims on that geocache being disqualified. Play creatively, but also play fairly. More geocachers hiding more geocaches makes for more geocaching fun.

Go Tassie, Go Tassie, Go Tassie, Go Tassie Go Tassie Go Tassie Go Tassie

The States of the Nation games have helped boost our dragon zone points and we have achieved a few milestone trophies as well.

whitewebbs are now a geocache themselves as we have published a 'Geocacher cache' GA10805 - Where's whitewebbs? - so if you spot us out and about in the field sign our log book and receive a code word to earn yourself a smiley.

The plan as far as I was concerned was to get one cache this morning but Goose had the time for another so we set of to WP2 since I had already collected the information for WP1 many years ago, with the info from WP2 we worked out the location of the cache and what do you know it was in the area we both expected it to be!
So off we go up the hill to get to GZ, after going the long way round we were soon searching for the cache and after a moment we were adding our names to the logbook for yet another {*FTF*} this morning at 10.23.
After doing the loop to get here we followed a Goose track back down and were soon in the car and heading home again, thanks for the cache LilRafa.

Like many geocachers I tend to take a lot of photos of signs as you never know when you might need them. Stainless steel rat is the same and soon produced a picture of WP1 so we were able to get a head start before arriving on the scene. I'm sure if we looked hard enough we may have found a pic of WP2 but come on this is a physical hobby not a keyboard workout, so after finding an OldSaint cache first we came to have a go at this one. We crunched the numbers and soon realized what we needed to do Doh . We were both a little reluctant but pushed on for what felt like half an hour (probably 8 minutes) but I'm not sure exactly as my head was a bit fuzzy and my eyes were full of salty sweat but we got there. There may have been a shorter way but we chose the safest and clearest way. We made our way carefully to GZ and soon spotted the right area. Watching for the black that threatened to paint us and a lone inchman that threatened to 'pain us,' we carefully extracted the cache and eventually the black logsheet. Woo Hoo that's two first to finds this morning. Another {*FTF*} with SSR, this one at 10.23.
Thanks LilRafa for the multi cache, the workout, and again the stunning views.
