Description

Can you get to the root of this bird puzzle?

THE CACHE IS NOT HIDDEN AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

Australia is home to eleven species of owl that collectively cover every state and territory. You should be able to use this list to calculate the numbers for GZ.

A = Powerful

B = Morepork

C = Rufous

D = Barn

E = Eastern Grass

F = Australian Masked

G = Southern Boobook

S35 C(F-G).(B+E)(G-C)F  E149 B(D-B).(A-B)C(G-E)

Use the GeoChecker to check your solved coordinates for GZ

There is room for trackables. Please replace the container as found

After spending 45 minutes looking for this cache I gave up and am logging a DNF. This is the second time I have tried for this cache, so it serves me right for not logging it correctly last visit. TFTC anyway Kittykatch.

We are familiar with several owls that are found in the bush where we grew up and enjoyed looking up others on your list. Fortunately we were able to solve the puzzle so were ready to search for this cache today. We parked the car about 200m from the hide and walked along the bush road. We could have driven but prefer to walk. Although it was quite hot for us Tasmanians there was a nice breeze and the trees beside the track provided good shade.

As we approached GZ we noticed an interesting bird watching us from a nearby perch. We continued our search and soon had a log sheet. Although the container looked unbalanced it remained in place. Container and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for another interesting puzzle Kittykatch. We loved the well themed container.

An interesting area for a quick walk. Cache found hanging precariously, but stable enough. Once I got the thing open, the log was soon signed.

Thanks,

Back out this way again to finish some unfinished business. I had a bit of fun with the puzzle and the cache was soon captured, although it should have been a driveby. The container was all OK during my visit. Nice container too!!!
Thanks Kittykatch for the cache and the fun.

A tad wet is an understatement, when we parked 200m away from this one. Cache was found on the ground but no time to put it back properly whilst getting drenched.

GCA 1899. Found during a sudden storm this afternoon with minniek.

What a fun puzzle that luckily I've seen a few times before. We ventured out with storm clouds gathering, but thought "She'll be right - lets do a drive by". Lol. It was pouring when we reached the obvious stopping point for the car, and then we wandered down the river I mean path to GZ. Found the container on the ground but can see how the set up must be. We just didn't have the time in the rain to make running repairs so the next finders can hopefully give a hoot and help out the CO.

TFTC Kittykatch !! Go ACT !!

#GA2246 - 12:25; Headed out with andrewbt and Sol de lune on a 'States of the Nation' mission across the border into New South Wales to plunder some treasure which has recently appeared around Mt Fairy. The plan was hatched with abt at a recent event and after the return of Sdl from OS the finer details all came together and today was settled on to head off on the scavenge. After a wrong turn early, we were now rolling along the dirt roads pretty well. This one involved a bit of a walk, but there was a clear track so we could keep an eye out for slithering sticks as we headed to GZ. Not quite what I expected given the cache name, but totally in keeping with it! Log signed and we headed back down the way we came. TFTC KittyKatch Very HappyClan Cerberus

After a bit of time away it was time to head out and start grabbing a few of the new GCA caches with LuckyL10n and AndrewBT for the current Summer Game. Puzzle was solved last night in prep for our day out and once at GZ, the cache was quickly found. Another neat cache container with a tie into the cache name. Always good to see a bit of effort and thought put into a cache.

Once the cache was replaced, we were off to the next one and a few more points for the ACT.

Thanks for another interesting container and location with this one KK.....

Kittykatch, Joolay and I went out to hide some some caches for the SoN game and wow what a day, 12 out there to help with the game. Waited to log find until someone got the FTF to be fair. We had a great day and lots of fun and some tough decisions about the puzzles. We each tested each others puzzles to ensure they worked and the FINAL coords were correct. TFTC KittyKatch.

Kittykatch decided we should hide some caches for the SoN game and here we are. Running around the countryside doing so. Have held off logging till FTF was accomplished. It was great fun and great experience of hiding and logging and making up puzzles. Claiming now

I had to make an a small adjustment to the GZ expression. So when GoldenWattle and Decrypter found it, their coordinates showed GZ 32m off solved coordinates. This has been fixed and your puzzle solution should fit the GeoChecker now. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks to Decrypter for his follow-up message.

YEEEEHAAA joint [FTF] with Goldenwattle.
This one turned out to be quite a journey. From the original puzzle where the geochecker didn't want to agree with my solution. My thanks to KittyKach for getting back to me so promptly about that.Thanks to the rapid confirmation by the CO that I did in fact have the correct solution, allowed us to do all these new cases in the area on new year's eve.
The CO has adjusted the geochecher to work correctly.
When we got to the confirmed coords we did not see any cache, I tried climbing some trees for potential hides without success. we spread our search 10-15 meters wider, but still nothing. I thought we were going to leave with a disappointing DNF for this one.
On our way back, a large tree triggered Goldenwattle's geocaching instincts and the rather special cache container was found.
the cache was found approximately 35 meters north of the calculated GZ coordinates.
Despite the difficulty of the journey, I can recommend this cache to all. DancingDancingDancing

Decrypter and I both began to work this out, but while I plodded along manually, he had some internet site to help speed up the process, so he 'won'. The new set of coordinates were deemed correct by the checker and so today we set out to find this. However, we couldn't spot any cache near GZ. It was only on leaving that a place seemed a likely hide and there it was. VERY cute! However the coordinates were about 32 metres out. *FTF* TFTC Kittykatch.
