Description
A timber Court of Petty Sessions was built in Eaglehawk in 1858. The log lockup now adjacent to the present courthouse was built to a Canadian plan and there were two other log lockups operated in the locality. By 1867 complaints were made that the accomodation in the courthouse was inadequate, and rooms were rented in the town hall. A new courthouse was built in 1869, initially in a typical plan with front entered courtroom and two rooms at the rear - the third room was added soon after. The log lockup was moved to its present position in 1970.
The 4.4m by 8.4m log lockup is typical of the log cabin construction log lockups built during the gold rushes. It features three timber lined cells and secure entry vestibule. It is constructed of bush hardwood logs, with logs in the cell walls transverse poles under the floor and above the ceiling for security

Yesterday i found my first few GA caches but i had completely forgotten that there is an app for it. Instead i copied out the coords into geooh go. Today i am searching for a few more and testing out the app.
Thanks for this nice little multi The Morris. We did enjoy this lockup.
(Will keep an eye on it just in case its archived)
i could not find the cache for the life of me so called the egg over who grabbed it in seconds. At least one of us was on the ball. Thanks for an enjoyable multi
We'd just completed the nearby cache and were returning to the car when I realised it was across the road from the Courthouse Hotel which served meals. So we ducked in there and dalerious disappeared outside for a smoke, and came back grinning because he'd discovered this Multi nearby and has already sussed out the information to acquire the coordinates.
As soon as our delicious lunch was consumed (we can highly recommend the food and service here), we ventured out into the heat again. I did my part of the multi by locating the cache. A great team effort.
Then we realised how many more GA oppportunities there were in the vicinity: the cannons, Masonic Hall, Courthouse, a multi sign, the old theatre, etc., so took heaps of photos before continuing.
Later in the day we went back passed the cannons and there was a huge branch across one of the cannons, where dalerious had been standing - how lucky were we?
Would you believe I have parked my bus here twice in the last few weeks to pickup passengers for a charter trip. One of those pickups took far longer than anticipated so I had time to gather information for a History cache to be based close to here (it'll be published soon )
Today we had not trouble gathering the information although there was disagreement between the Wench and I about the letterbox colour. My guess proved correct and a quick find was made soon after.
Our thanks to The Morris for placing this GCA cache and for giving another cache to log the States of the Nation.
