Description

A timber Court of Petty Sessions was built in Eaglehawk in 1858. The log lockup now adjacent to the present courthouse was built to a Canadian plan and there were two other log lockups operated in the locality. By 1867 complaints were made that the accomodation in the courthouse was inadequate, and rooms were rented in the town hall. A new courthouse was built in 1869, initially in a typical plan with front entered courtroom and two rooms at the rear - the third room was added soon after. The log lockup was moved to its present position in 1970.

The 4.4m by 8.4m log lockup is typical of the log cabin construction log lockups built during the gold rushes. It features three timber lined cells and secure entry vestibule. It is constructed of bush hardwood logs, with logs in the cell walls transverse poles under the floor and above the ceiling for security

The cache is a short walk away where:

B= The number of windows on the lockup
C= The number of letters in (former) colour of the letterbox

No joy for me today, although im pretty sure i found the right hiding place. I see it hasnt been found for a few years.

Yesterday i found my first few GA caches but i had completely forgotten that there is an app for it. Instead i copied out the coords into geooh go. Today i am searching for a few more and testing out the app.

This evening wwe found ourselves in Eaglehawk not far from this multi. We couldn't pass it by so stopped to collect the information that would enable us to locate the cache container. We had no trouble locating the answers and soon had a well hidden cache container in hand.

Thanks for this nice little multi The Morris. We did enjoy this lockup.

Out and about caching in the Bendigo area today, the weather's perfect but supposed to rain tomorrow so trying to get as many GCA caches as possible. Found the required information and made the short walk to the coordinates. We searched all around as per the hint but nothing, then as we were about to give up we found the logbook lying on the ground minus container. We signed our name and replaced the logbook in the obvious spot, well covered. But this cache badly needs maintenance as we had no supplies with us and the logbook isn't even in a plastic bag. TFTC

Having arrived in Bendigo, it was time to head out and round up a few GCA caches that had been published since our last visit a year ago. We love caching around Bendigo. Bendigo is the last stop for us before heading home to Tassie after attending the OzGeoMuster at Easter. Nice to catch up with the COs at the Mega. TFTM

This little multi wasn't on our small list but as we were driving straight past we had to stop. I really enjoy a multi but they seem to be the least popular in our fast paced world. we struggled with C until the penny dropped and it all made sense. The kids enjoyed helping out and ran around the lockup counting windows. we took a confident guess as to how many were locked inside.
i could not find the cache for the life of me so called the egg over who grabbed it in seconds. At least one of us was on the ball. Thanks for an enjoyable multi

It had been a very hot morning, time to have lunch in a cool spot, and try to lower our core temperature before heading out again
We'd just completed the nearby cache and were returning to the car when I realised it was across the road from the Courthouse Hotel which served meals. So we ducked in there and dalerious disappeared outside for a smoke, and came back grinning because he'd discovered this Multi nearby and has already sussed out the information to acquire the coordinates.
As soon as our delicious lunch was consumed (we can highly recommend the food and service here), we ventured out into the heat again. I did my part of the multi by locating the cache. A great team effort.
Then we realised how many more GA oppportunities there were in the vicinity: the cannons, Masonic Hall, Courthouse, a multi sign, the old theatre, etc., so took heaps of photos before continuing.
Later in the day we went back passed the cannons and there was a huge branch across one of the cannons, where dalerious had been standing - how lucky were we?

A plea from our all-grown-up daughter to bring some of her stuff to Bendigo gave us an opportunity to find a few GCA caches during the rushed trip. Some planning helped us in not having to backtrack, although the showgrounds cache required a second visit due to the pony club meeting. We still managed to make it home in time for our afternoon commitment, and with 6 FTF's as well Dancing.

Would you believe I have parked my bus here twice in the last few weeks to pickup passengers for a charter trip. One of those pickups took far longer than anticipated so I had time to gather information for a History cache to be based close to here (it'll be published soon Very Happy )

Today we had not trouble gathering the information although there was disagreement between the Wench and I about the letterbox colour. My guess proved correct and a quick find was made soon after.

Our thanks to The Morris for placing this GCA cache and for giving another cache to log the States of the Nation.
