One of several caches solved today whilst having lunch at the Disappearing Tarn and waiting for lots & lots & lots & lots of muggles to move on! An easy find, and although probably more suited to the 'pipeline' track Wink, it was another brilliant container! TFTC!
Cheers,

G'day SSR, thanks for the cache, that I've probably walked past several times in the past, including a recent snow hike with Scouts up the Ice House Track. I struggled with this puzzle, but thanks to a helpful CO, I did manage to solve it before that walk in case the opportunity to stop and search presented itself, but on the day it didn't!
Today I needed to get out after being stuck indoors unwell for the last few days, and Mrs EeePees was keen for a shortish easy walk, so we choose Milles Track.
A nice quick find, 2nd of four for the walk. It was nice and quiet up here today, no wind, and a nice mostly dry track. Most enjoyable.
Thanks for the adventure.

Journey or Destination

Game Period: 01-Dec-2018 00:00:00 to 31-Jan-2019 23:59:59 AEST

It is sometimes said [citation needed] that the game of geocaching is not about the destination it is about the journey. This game is about the choices you make in the experience of the journey or the destination.

On your entry to the game you will be asked to create a playing field with a number of ground tiles. Your playing field is a grid 20 x 20 ground tiles making a total number of 400 possible steps you can take on your journey or destination. You choose whether you want to find and follow the path or whether you wanted to meander around. A playing field is unique to each player so there is no benefit in teaming up to beat the system through brute force.

For each qualifying geocache that you hide or find during the game period you will be offered the opportunity to click on a ground tile and reveal what lies beneath. There are a number of different ground tiles that will be revealed when you click on your playing field. It should be noted that there are no punishments for clicking a tile but there will not always be the reward you were hoping for as you reveal each tile.

Dirt. The ground beneath the ground tile is just plain old brown dirt.

Dirt with some points. The ground beneath the tile is brown dirt but it has some points associated with it.

Concrete. The ground beneath is part of the pathway that will lead you on your way to your destination but has no point value.

Start. A concrete ground tile that has a blue map marker.

Destination. A ground tile that has a green map marker.

Meandering around and avoiding the path will accumulate points that will be used to place on you the ladder of wanderers. The more you stay off the path the higher the number of points you will accumulate and it will be your journey that will be the determining factor in whether you place into a prize winning position. You are free to select any ground tile to click on; they do not need to be next to each other.

Trying to find the path may mean you strike out on the dirt until you eventually come across the path and as a geocacher who can't say that this isn't a tried and true method. Once you find the path however will you try and follow the path as it changes direction around your playing field? Do you go North, South, East or West to try and find the next concrete tile along the path? If you head one way are you heading towards the start or towards the destination? When you do happen upon the destination tile then you will automatically be in a winning position.

At any point you are free to change from the journey to the destination and vice versa but you won't be able to regenerate your playing field. You are also free to keep playing as long as you have qualifying geocaches, accumulating more and more dirt tile points and placing you higher and higher on the ladder.

Qualifying geocaches fall into two categories. Finds and Hides.

A qualifying find is a geocache that meets the following criteria:

The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia

The geocache has a hidden date prior to the game commencing

The geocache was logged by you on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period

The geocache was physically found by you during the game period

The geocache is not owned by you unless it is a moveable geocache

The geocache has not previously been found by you during the game period

The geocache is one of the following types:

Burke and Wills

Moveable (you will qualify only once for a find on a moveable geocache)

Traditional

TrigPoint

Augmented Reality

Beacon

Gadget

Multi-cache

Night Cache

Podcache

Reverse

Unknown or Mystery

A qualifying hide is a geocache that meets the following criteria:

The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia

The geocache has a hidden date after the game has commenced

The geocache was published on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period

The geocache has a container size of regular or larger (Note: A regular geocache has a volume of 1 litre or more)

The geocache is one of the following types:

Moveable

Traditional

Augmented Reality

Beacon

Gadget

Multi-cache

Night Cache

Podcache

Reverse

Unknown or Mystery

The game tracking mechanism relies upon your honesty when logging geocaches as found or hidden.

The games administrators will undertake verification of a statistically significant number of logs.

Players who continually log inaccurate information will be disqualified from the game. The game administrators decision is final.

The game administrators will subtract qualifying hide or find geocaches from your tally if they are found to be not genuine.

The game administrators reserve the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.

Don't forget to claim your limited time game trophies, if your qualify, while the game is in progress. Once the game completes the ability to claim your trophies is lost for ever.

Hello stainless-steel-rat thanks for the cache.

Now I'm not sure if this is one of the puzzles I needed help with or not it's been a while.
A nice easy find after work it's a pity more people haven't found it.

A popular cypher style we have often encountered enabled us to rapidly solve this puzzle and add this cache to our to find list for today.

Now Mrs Y'stassie continued on from Icehouse not Lighthouse hoping that the storm that appeared to be brewing would not break before she had found the two remaining caches on this section of the track. The steady breeze made for pleasant walking conditions but the ever darkening skies warned of the possibility of a downpour.

It didn't take long to reach the cache area however once again her GPS was sending her in circles so she did the stand still, put GPS in pocket, read the hint, look around now where would you hide it trick. Something in agreement with the hint caught her eye and she soon had the great construction in her hand - a container any rat would be proud to claim. Now the arthritis in her hands often causes Mrs Y'stassie difficulty when opening this type of cache however the rat construction was such that she had no problems opening the cache and extracting the log book. Container and contents were in excellent condition.

Thanks for a great cache hide Stainless-steel-rat. It is always a thrill to find a large well thought out and carefully hidden cache in a bush environment. It also gives us some useful scavenge points for Tasmania in the current game.

We headed out to the mountain today to find five new caches that had been published while we have been away up North. Thanks OldSaint, Stainless=Steel-Rat and gooseandegg for creating caches which have multiple options to use in the States of the Nation games. We also scored as a bonus the first to find on OldSaint's newly published "The Photographer" cache.

We solved the puzzle with the help of a converter, coords now in the GPSr we made a quick find of a well stocked and large cache. This cache should stand the weather. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk on the Milles track.

On our return we stopped at the springs where we thought we might get a coffee but alas the "shop" wasn't open. I dont know why it wasn't open as it was like Flinder's Street Station, people and cars everywhere. They missed out today on lots of business.

We did however find a goose and a rat in search of coffee as well. I said I can show you mine if you show me yours (moveables that is) and the Event was published, moveables sighted, signed and some taken to be moved. So all up we had five finds, 1 event attended and eight moveables to hide.

We left the mountain hiding moveables all the way down that hadn't been collected by other attendees, so hopefully the elevation will help others in the games. We con tinued on to the Domain to find another OldSaint cache that had been published Christmas Eve and then over to Howrah to hide a couple more moveables before heading home. As we hadn't had lunch and it was getting late afternoon, we stopped at the grocer at Lauderdale only to find it wasn't open. We are not having much luck spending our money today! Sorry about the lengthy logs. We are currently aiming for a virtual verbosity trophy. TFTP

The States of the Nation games which we are currently participating in are running from 16 December 2017 until 21 January 2018.

States of the Nation is a real and virtual geocaching scavenger hunt where your home state will compete against other Australian states to find and hide geocaches. Over the 5 week course of the game there will be hundreds of scavenges that you can track down, find and convert into points for your state. Some scavenges will be easy. Some scavenges will be tough. Some scavenges may be impossible. Don't despair. You are not competing just for yourself; you are competing as a state.

There will be a number of scavenges released on a weekly basis but each scavenge will remain until the end of the game. This means even if you decide to join the game part way through, the early scavenges are still available for you to claim. Scavenges will require you to find a geocache, hide a geocache, attend an event or do something else completely different. The game focuses on all aspects of geocaching and so all cache types, sizes, terrain and difficulty will be up for scavenging. TrigPoints, Events, History, Virtual, Webcam, Podcache and Locationless geocaches are all scavengable, so you're not just looking for a box under a bush. Each week there will be a mix of physical, non-physical and locationless geocaches so even if you are not in a geocache rich area, use the locationless component of scavenger series to get out, find something to log and gain points for your state. If you watch the scavenges as they are released you might also spot the 'not so hidden' patterns and plan for future weeks of the series.

Hiding geocaches will also be a large part of the scavenger series, but please remember this is a game of geocaching and geocaches that you hide should be long lasting, be of good quality and you should be proud of what you hide. Please avoid hiding a geocache just for the day so your state can find it before you archive it. Geocaches that exist for a short period of time may result in any claims on that geocache being disqualified. Play creatively, but also play fairly. More geocachers hiding more geocaches makes for more geocaching fun.

Have you joined a clan? Enhance your geocaching experience by joining a clan and being a part of the Dragon Zone. Choose a team Clan Griffin Clan Griffin , Clan Phoenix Clan Phoenix , Clan Cerberus Clan Cerberus or Clan Minotaur Clan Minotaur . After an epic walk down from the summit via the South Wellington and Ice House Tracks (plus side trips) I had headed up the Pinnacle Track to find Half way to the shop when I realized I had to backtrack along Milles track to log a find in this one. Stupidly I had walked past it not long before without even thinking about logging it Brick Wall I knew exactly where it was as I was with the CO when it was placed.

This cache was found at the end of a great day of walking on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington in the company of SSR, goodesandegg, EeePees, and Membsec (and I dragged one of my adult sons along as well Smile ) for the New Years Eve mountain walk and meet up event. After a successful day, when we got to the bottom of the Ice Houses track the party went in a few different directions to nab a last cache or two close to the Springs before we headed home for the day. I was keen to find some recently placed mystery caches along the Milles track, however after having recently leaving my GPSr behind on a beautiful but infrequently visited beach on the east coast (which has now been found by another geocacher - Yay!) I was GPSr-less, so was extremely thankful for a fellow member of the party to accompany me along the track so that I could find these caches. Love this track and it's great to have a few caches along here. Great cache container that should be around for many years, I really love that special spray paint you use for your containers Very Happy . Thanks for placing this cache here SSR!

I was struggling to solve this cipher so called Old Saint to see how he was going with it. He gave me a gentle prod in the right direction and I soon had the correct coordinates. Old Saint an I decided to tackle the four new caches in this area together. This was the first one we found today. Thanks SSR for the puzzle, for the impressive cache container and for an excuse to stroll on the mountain on such a perfect day.

I remember my first one of these ciphers, when I cracked it via brute force without guessing the keyword (which was long and not a word or phrase). Nowadays, technology takes a lot of the fun away, but I still love puzzles.
Having met the others past this point, they had already found this one, so they let me discover it on my own.
I was impressed by the size and robustness of the container.
Thanks!

Hi SSR
I was sitting in front of the computer solving the new puzzle caches hidden by gooseandegg and Stainless-Steel-Rat when the phone rang. DnA! had been doing the same thing and enquired how I was going on them. We conferred and he asked “Do you want to go and get them?” We agreed to meet at the Springs on Mt Wellington at 1530 hours; neither of intending to cache today!

Weather:
A beautiful day at Huonville very hot – twenty six degrees here. There were few clouds in the sky.
Temperature at Longley was twenty two degrees: on the mountain walking the track it was a very pleasant eighteen degrees Celsius as we searched for the caches in the shade of the trees.
Not a sign of rain as we searched for GA11305, GA11306, GA11307 and GA11308.

Travel:
Drove from Huonville to the Springs on Mt Wellington and returned to Huonville.
For the day, it took 3720 steps burning 1282 calories to cover a total of 2.84 kilometres and find four caches on foot. I drove 67.1 kilometres for the day; a total of 69.94 kilometres for the whole caching day.

GA11306 “Milles Track, Just passed the Creek”
Having arrived at the car park at the Springs, Mt Wellington; awaiting DnA!s arrival, I started to put the co-ordinates for each of the four caches into my GPS. The wait was only a short one; upon which we moved our cars to the higher Springs Parking area.
Climbed the steps and began our walk along the track completely ignoring GA11305 on the way to this cache. A very pleasant walk with great company.
The cache was Sainted at 1540 hours.
A joint *FTF* with DnA! – THANKS.
All the protocols were completed and it was time to head to the next cache, GA11307. I had covered a distance of 0.78 kilometres using 990 steps and burning 1052 calories.
(Really enjoyed the exercise and being back in the scrub; a great day’s caching with a good friend and another cacher joining us at the next cache - THANK YOU)

This cache will be used as part of the States of the Nation games currently running from 16 December 2017 until 21 January 2018. As the new caches have so many options, a decision will be made as to which scavenge to use it against. It is nice to have a choice. Thanks.
