Description

This is another of my favourite picnic places - Lions Park at Tallebudgera Valley

I love picnics and BBQs and insist that we have one on a regular basis. This cache is the start of a series on some of my favourite picnic and/or BBQ places. For each of them I will describe what I particularly like about each spot and what facilities each one has just in case you are planning your own picnic.

This is Lions Park in Tallebudgeera Valley. Sometimes it gets called the Syndicate Road Park. I really love this picnic spot. Its right beside a little bubbling creek which is great to splash about in or make rock stacks. There are lots of trees and birds. It smells amazing in spring, and is very cool in summer, plus you have to go on a bit of a drive through the country to get there, so that’s always a bit of an adventure.

The park has three picnic tables under cover and one BBQ, although the BBQ is not working at the moment. There is a little playground for the kids. The only things that stops it from being perfect is that there is no tap for drinking water, so you need to make sure you bring your own; and the toilets are the composting type – so they can get a bit stinky if people don’t use them the right way. But if you hold your nose and remember to close the lid you should be ok. There is water to wash your hands but I would not like to drink it.

The park is really long and narrow. Up one end away from the picnic area is a bit of a swimming hole where people seem to have a lot of fun.. The creek is a bit shallower down the other end near the picnic area, so it depends on how much rain we have had as to how deep it is. It might only come up to your knees or it might come up to your chest. If you do go swimming or wading, be careful because there are no lifeguards.

There are lots of smooth rocks around in the creek bank. Max and I like to make stacks from the rocks. One day we got a stack to be nine rock high before it toppled over. We’ve made a Virtual Cache called GA11142 Making Rock Stacks at Lions Park about making rock stacks here. So you could get two smilies for one park.

There is a shiny new two plate BBQ in the park now. Max and I went to check it out - the plate closest to the creek is very slow, the plate closest to the playground is better.

We also checked the cache, its all good - but then its had some recent finds.

Nothing I like better than finding a new place that I haven't been too before. And this is one of those places. Such a pretty, cool area. It was starting to get very humid by mid morning, but I arrived at this park and the temperature was perfect. It didn't take me long and I had the cache in hand. I also made a rock stack to qualify for the virtual cache too. Like a few other Gold Coast find, I found a mystery thong at GZ. No owner anywhere to be seen. It was a small thong so probably not Ciderellas or Prince Charmings. Maybe a young nephew or relative? Somewhere in the Gold Coast are a small group of people with only one thong. Loved this cache - Thanks again Samboo!

How's the serenity! This quiet park with the scenic little stream was worth the ride to get here. Actually we thought we could keep going on a loop back to Rainbow Bay but not up that hill we're not!! Enjoyed a rest, drank a tank of water and wandered down to the creek before retracing the thin green line on the GPS back to Tallebudgera. TFTC SambooBear.

#GA3010 - 13:20; The geotribe was doing a bit of last minute retail therapy, so I headed out for some last minute caching around Currumbin before we packed our bags and headed south for home tomorrow. I had collected another of the CO's caches not too far away, so had this one on the list for the return journey. Arrived at a convenient 'park', where I left the geomobile and headed in to GZ on foot. Spotted the cache fairly quickly as it was sitting exposed. Signed the log and returned the cache to more cover a bit deeper into its hidey hole. TFTC SambooBear Very HappyClan Cerberus

When we picked up Suzy from work, I suggested to Pete that we check on the BBQ to see if its been fixed. I also wanted to make sure that my cache is still there.

See I am being a very good cache owner and regularly checking my hides. Its still there hiding.
