Description
These two water tanks are the only things left from the
Grass Tree Hill Road Station.
In 1832 Lieutenant-Governor Arthur ordered a new road be built between Risdon and Richmond.
Construction of the Grass Tree Hill Road began in 1833. Despite Bryan’s accusations concerning the Grass Tree Hill Road being built to speed Arthur’s travels to his farm Carrington near Richmond. The road became known as "Carrington Cut". A gang of 50 convicts cleared the land and constructed the road Station.
By 1837 there was a prison barracks with log fence, a cell block, chapel, stone store,a military barracks and quarters for the Commandant and Superintendent.
In 1838 there were139 convict 72 of them working in leg irons.
The road wasn't finished until 1841.
In 1845 a trip to Grass Tree Hill cost 1 shilling and 9 pence if you rode inside the stage coach or 1 shilling and 6 pence if you sat on top.
If you needed to have a rest you could stop at the "Help Me Thru the World Inn" at the top of the hill.

To log this cache take a photo of yourself standing by the tanks (NO GPS photos) and add it to your log.
I have made this a virtual as I know there is going to be some more work done here and couldn't find any where to hide a cache.
There is plenty of parking at GZ on the western side of Grass Tree Hill Road .

Interesting area thanks Alby
Out and about solo today picking up a few caches along the way, on my last day of leave - back to work tomorrow.
Cheers, EPs.
Found on a whistle stop trip south to nab a few caches.
Many thanks ftc...much appreciated...cheers ST.
Travelling the wrong way for easy access but managed to get across the road in the campervan to the parking area without incident.
Really impressed with these tanks and they were not at all what I was expecting to see. So this cache is a typical example of what caching should be all about.
Glad this one was only a photo as the dog in the nearby house was certainly announcing our presence.
Thanks.
I was looking up on the hill and then saw the impressive structure.
TFTC
Had to visit Hobart and the eastern Shore today, so a trip to this bucket list cache was in order
Sainted quickly at 1320 hours
Now onto Richmond
Love driving this road, especially if there's no other traffic on it - think you know why!
Brmm! Brmmm!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint
I thought about doing a virtual here too. It's a great spot isn't it
I bet OldSaint had a photo of this stashed away somewhere or maybe he's on his way there now.

FTF at 2.08pm
Now you have a reason to stop.
