Samuel's Gorge is a mosaic of dreams, with a principal philosophy of people and  place.

Samuel's Gorge was established by winemaker Justin McNamee in 2003.  Housed in an 1853 built farm shed, the winery and cellar door sits atop a ridge. Our winery overlooks the spectacular Onkaparinga River National Park to the North, and to the South, the ocean.

The Samuel's Gorge label is an impression of the rugged landscape that is viewed from the winery; look closer and see our storyboard within the tiles. At Samuel's Gorge we focus on five key varietals; Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Graciano  and Tempranillo.

The wines of Samuel's Gorge are crafted by hand and reflect the landscape in which we work.  We reference history for texture, complexity and harmony. We engage patient techniques, utilising indigenous yeast, ensuring our ferments are long and slow.  Our winery is under the cover of a lean to and at night a ceiling of stars.  Visitors to Samuel's Gorge are welcome to see our process during harvest, in late summer.

Driven by aromatics, texture, silkiness and intrigue our wines are great to drink now  and yet have structural support and intensity that ensures they cellar well.  Samuel's Gorge wines reflect the unique vintage conditions and represent the personality and the imagination of the makers.

When we were planning our current trip to South Australia for our son and our younger grand daughters birthdays we knew we would be here for the Ides which coincidently is our son's birthday. We spent time identifying caches that would be available but found this would take us from the Yorke Peninsula to Myponga - doable maybe but on our son's birthday not likely.

Just as we were about to leave the McLaren Vale Tour was published - eleven caches relatively close to one another and not too far from our family. These were quickly added to our SA target list. We were able to identify four others that would give us the required fifteen caches in one day to qualify for the Idus Marti: The Ides of March gold trophy. In fact we didn't need to use these caches as an early meeting with ParisLaura produced four moveables.

We were looking forward to finding the caches in this tour.

We started with this cache which was a quick find due to accurate co-ordinates and an excellent hint. Loved the winery name plaque and the mosaic hanging above the name plaque. A very good hiding spot with plenty of space to pull off the road. Container and contents were in excellent condition.

Thanks for this cache J_&_J we also enjoyed reading the information provided about Samuel's Gorge winery and appreciate the effort you have put into setting up this tour and hiding the caches.
