Description

This is a great drive by virtual, a Great View for a nice Lunch.

This is where everybody slips in there boats so they can go fishing for the day. I love the view from here and just think it is really amazing. It is at the furthest point of soldiers point and well worth the drive.

To make things interesting I thought I would get you to answer two questions...

One is sign based and another is plaque based...

The above co-ords will take you in front of four or five signs...

Tell me the answer to the following...

1. How do you identify a grey nurse shark????

The next question will require you to back up about three meters to the big rock with a plaque on it...

2. It will give you the Date, Month and Year the boat ramp was opened...

Send me an email with those two answers and you have made a quick virtual with the added benefit of a fabulous view.

Don't forget to check out Pied Piper and Sailing @ the bay just up the road.... Another two easy caches...

I stopped by this one while on this morning's walk around the point. Unfortunately the image of the grey nurse shark on the sign is torn in half (even though it's steel Shocked ) and the plaque has been stolen Shocked so I've added a pickie of 2upoj at the latter taken at 08:30 to show our attendance. Wink This one could probably benefit from a do over as this is such a great spot that it certainly warrants a cache like this. Very Happy

Thanks MADSTARS.

Hi Madstars

Grateful to be back at Soldiers Point boat ramp for your Fly Point Virtual. Well it was a virtual find, with answers to both questions not available at GZ, photo evidence attached. Tried in vain to find history of the ramp for a date. Also searched for identifying features of a grey nurse shark, to learn some unclear methods including colour (der), stout body shape and rows of teeth.

Anyways it was fun to visit and watch the many passing boats on a sunny August mid-week afternoon.

Hope it's OK to log this as virtually found.

Cheers

Damage to the fish sign, and a missing plaque make this one difficult.... we were there though! Thanks....

I can't send you the answers to your two questions because they aren't here. attached is a photo of myself with the plaqueless rock.

Will log this as a find even though the sign and the plaque are no longer there. Have included a photo to show where the plaque was and will attempt to answer question 1 from a nearby sign showing different species of fish available in the area.
Thanks.

We found this cache while visiting the area for the day ,our answers have been sent to the CO TFTC

Found on our trip to Port Stephens. An email has been sent to the owner with some information - hopefully, our answers are okay. If you are not satisfied with our answers, email us and we will delete this log. After succesfully finding the answer about the shark, we went to the rock, only to find that the plaque has been ripped off, leaving sections of glue on the plaque. Very dissapointing to not find a plaque here. I will post a photo of its remains as evidence. Such a lovely place to visit - but it was indeed very busy around here. TFTC MADSTARS! Clan Cerberus

This is certainly a very well constructed boat ramp - the facilities are great. By the number of cars and trailers here today, the facilities are appreciated by boaties. Thanks for the cache.

We never plan to get close enough to check out a grey nurse but if it ever eventuates we'll at least now be able to identify our attacker, not that that would help! Thanks Madstars for another cache in a beautiful location.

I don't really care how to identify a grey nurse shark.........if its got a big dorsal fin and big teeth, then I'm out of there!!
I won't swim in its water if it doesn't swim in my scotch!!

428. Wandered around and looked at all signs to find the information but could only locate a picture of a grey nurse - and another hundred fish as well. Have emailed answers for winglen and myself and shamelessly logging in the hope the answers are right.

After finding the nearby GC cache we located this one, and obtained the required information.
Oh to have the money to have one of the boats around here, some put our yacht to shame.
Now off to get the next nearby GC cache.

Another lovely spot for a short stop and to grab a few caches. A very pleasant morning with a few anglers about. I nearly felt like dropping a line in myself. After grabbing the required info it was off for a pleasant drive around the bay. Thanks MADSTARS.

19:33 I'd extended my caching day past my self-imposed 7pm deadline just to try for a FTF here, glad I did! Smile I'd otherwise probably never known about the Grey Nurse Shark Critical Habitat and restrictions near Broughton Island. Thanks for the virtual although I will have to return here some time in daylight to appreciate the alleged fabulous view Smiletn_2061044564.jpg
