Description

Sutherland Shire Historical Society & Museum

‘The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there'

The Sutherland Shire Historical Museum will take you on a journey through time, exploring historical elements of the Sutherland Shire.

The collection is focused on a time period trail called ‘A journey through time’. Specific displays include our geology, Aboriginal culture, explorers, pioneers and settlers, war preparations and post-war expansion. This is augmented by touch screen devices and volunteer guidance.

View and touch a section of the actual Ballast from his ship The Endeavour. Walk through the replica 1920 schoolteacher’s house originally constructed in nearby Menai with its kitchen, bedroom, parlour and simple classroom. Step back in time as you discover the history of the Sutherland Shire.

The museum is open every Saturday (except for public holidays) from 09:00 to 13:00. The answers from the Q&A can be found outside the building.

The museum was not open today, of course. It is an old building and can do with some refreshing, hopefully after the renovations it can take some pressure off the entertainment centre. Thanks for bringing us here, will be definitely worth another visit when it opens for the 3rd time.

Had to be at the airport early today to drop off my wife and daughter for their Europe trip. This meant taking the day of work and as I was with nothing to do by 10 am I went to search for caches on my way home.

Caching solo today and out on a mission today to collect eight different cache types in a day and some moveables for the event this afternoon.

Next stop this history cache...gathered the required info and quickly plugged in the answers and code word received. Yay! Another *FTF* for the morning and cache type number 2. A nice easy history cache and introduction to the museum! And just after leaving the area I walked straight past a “Noddy Car” brilliant, that is cache type number three for the day!

Thanks for the cache TeamMavEtJu.
