Description
Located on Lighthouse Road near Tacking Point Lighthouse is the location of the lighthouse keepers cottage.
Note: There are questions about your visit to this location to answer in order to log a find.
Tacking Point Lighthouse stands at an elevation of 34m, is 8m high.
The Tacking Point Lighthouse was a fixed white light exhibited from a brick tower and was automated in 1919 and the lighthouse keeper was withdrawn in 1920. The remains of the lighthouse keeper's cottage can be found next to the lighthouse. Both the lighthouse and the keepers cottage were built at the same time. The total cost of both buildings was £4,650.
The cottages were a standard four room dwelling including parlour and bedrooms with a central passage, rear lean-to kitchen, verandah, outside privy and water tanks.
Typically lighthouse keepers were preferably married men to negate the isolation. In addition to maintaining the lamp and keeping the light going, the keepers were also responsible for maintaining shipping and accounts records and undertaking meteorological recordings every three hours.

Thanks for bringing us to this awesome location!
Lovely spot. Bit windy, hazy, and chopped up water. Still enjoyed the views though. Love the blue paint highlights on the lighthouse too.
Thanks for the history cache.
Another great place to visit.
Thanks for the cache,
Roostaman
A very popular place too today but we still managed to luck a parking space at the top.
Not much remaining of the lighthouse keepers cottage here, unlike the one we visited at Smoky Cape yesterday.
Thanks.
Caching in the area with whitewebbs and this was one of the caches we found. A beautiful location and interesting history. The signs are currently fenced as the road is being upgraded but we managed to access them.

Out and about with Tassie Trekkers caching around Port Macquarie and surrounds and we stopped to photograph the lighthouse trig and do the history cache. As the area is totally fenced off we went in behind a fence and took photos of the sign. The area is being revamped from June to September. Access to the lighthouse is via the beach. TFTC
