Description

Princes Highway Puzzles #8

The Princes Highway is a major road in Australia, extending from Sydney to Port Augusta via the coast through the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It has a length of 1,941 kilometres (along Highway 1) or 1,898 kilometres via the former alignments of the highway, although these routes are slower and connections to the bypassed sections of the original route are poor in many cases.

The highway follows the coastline for most of its length, and thus takes quite an indirect and lengthy route. For example, it is 1,040 kilometres from Sydney to Melbourne on Highway 1 as opposed to 870 kilometres on the more direct Hume Highway (National Highway 31), and 915 kilometres from Melbourne to Adelaide compared to 730 kilometres on the Western and Dukes Highways (National Highway 8). Because of the rural nature and lower traffic volumes over much of its length, the Princes Highway is a more scenic and leisurely route than the main highways between these major cities.

The Princes Highway as a named route came into being when pre-existing roads were renamed ‘Prince's Highway’ after the visit to Australia in 1920 of the Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VIII and, after abdicating, the Duke of Windsor). South of Waterfall the highway is paralleled by the 55-kilometre Princes Motorway (national route M1) to the top of Bulli Pass outside the city of Wollongong, which carries the majority of traffic.

To determine the codeword:

In the movie "Die Hard with a Vengeance", John McClane is asked "What is 21 out of 42?". The answer cannot be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d3iD7lVVTE but it is very funny. Who is 44? (Last name)

We were pleased to find that we had room to pull off the highway to look for this cache. Again the hide was a familiar one and we had no trouble extracting the cache. Contents and container were in good condition.

Thanks for this puzzle cache Team MavEtJu and another cache in this series.

After landing on the mainland yesterday we were headed South to the Mega, well we never drive none stop so we had to look for all this series as we travelled down. One of the puzzles was still up for a FTF when the Goose solved it but as it turned out we were to late and had been beaten by a fellow Tassie team to that honour.
Myself and Goose had great fun finding this series, a couple of them took us a few minutes to find others we were right on the money to start with.

Thanks for a nice series to guide us to the Mega.

With number 7 archived, it was straight to number 8
On our way to the OZGM19 Mega, stainless steel rat and I stopped and found the Princes Highway series of puzzle caches. During the week leading up I had solved all the puzzles and we were pleased to be able to search and log this GCA series on the way down with a good mix of D/Ts.
Thanks Team MavEtJu (great to catch up with you at the mega)

Another lying on the ground. After we all signed the log, it was replaced in the spot appropriate to the hint. Thanks for the puzzles Team MavEtJu.

Out with the team for some more GA caches. A quick find in a spot that didn't match the hint. Signed and replaced in the intended spot.

On the way back stopped for this one with teamMerlin, Splitty Miller JJCC, alnic39, lachnic62 & ZoNic66. Solved the puzzles a long time ago but pick up ones when we get a chance.
Pulled over in a spot just passed GZ it was a quick find as it was on the ground after the previous one the ground was where we first looked. My guess is road crew have been replacing the ends found it and threw it on the ground.
We signed the log and replaced where we believe it was supposed to be

Thanks for the puzzle and for bringing us to this area Team MavEtJu

#GA2776 - 09:43; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. After a few stops on the way through the suburbs, we had finally reached the first cache in this series, which was our major target for today. The puzzles had been solved as part of a group effort before leaving home. A run along the highway today saw us with 21 from 23 caches found, one DNF and one remaining to be solved. After a stop for a few trigs near Helensburgh, and a DNF on the previous cache in this series, we were now back on the trail, with this our seventh of 21 finds in the series. No problems here and we quickly had the cache in hand and the log signed. TFTC Team MavEtJu Very HappyClan Cerberus

Second to last day of the Sol de Lune / LuckyL10n NSW adventure. After attending the Morisset Mega, heading up to and back from Tweed Heads, we were now on the final leg.

This series was the main focus of the day, although we managed a couple of other GCA caches that we pasted en-route. We solved all but one, and DNF'd one...so a good result really.

No problems here and the cache was soon in hand and the log signed.

Thanks TMEJ....a neat little trail that kept us on our toes.
