Description

Princes Highway Puzzles #14

The Princes Highway is a major road in Australia, extending from Sydney to Port Augusta via the coast through the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It has a length of 1,941 kilometres (along Highway 1) or 1,898 kilometres via the former alignments of the highway, although these routes are slower and connections to the bypassed sections of the original route are poor in many cases.

The highway follows the coastline for most of its length, and thus takes quite an indirect and lengthy route. For example, it is 1,040 kilometres from Sydney to Melbourne on Highway 1 as opposed to 870 kilometres on the more direct Hume Highway (National Highway 31), and 915 kilometres from Melbourne to Adelaide compared to 730 kilometres on the Western and Dukes Highways (National Highway 8). Because of the rural nature and lower traffic volumes over much of its length, the Princes Highway is a more scenic and leisurely route than the main highways between these major cities.

The Princes Highway as a named route came into being when pre-existing roads were renamed ‘Prince's Highway’ after the visit to Australia in 1920 of the Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VIII and, after abdicating, the Duke of Windsor). South of Waterfall the highway is paralleled by the 55-kilometre Princes Motorway (national route M1) to the top of Bulli Pass outside the city of Wollongong, which carries the majority of traffic.

The codeword for the cache is: First premier of New South Wales. (Last name)

This is tricky. In my opinion, Wikipedia is a bit ambiguous in its wording. Australia did not have an official Prime Minister until Federation in 1901, when they became known as Federal Prime Ministers. Until that time each state-operated under premiers that were interchangeably known as prime ministers. Federation is the key here.

Im having the same problem as No_Tomorrow

It's D1. I did my research, used the checker, and the message said I had the wrong answer. Checked my spelling and tried again after 2 minutes. Still didn't work.

After landing on the mainland yesterday we were headed South to the Mega, well we never drive none stop so we had to look for all this series as we travelled down. One of the puzzles was still up for a FTF when the Goose solved it but as it turned out we were to late and had been beaten by a fellow Tassie team to that honour.
Myself and Goose had great fun finding this series, a couple of them took us a few minutes to find others we were right on the money to start with.

Thanks for a nice series to guide us to the Mega.

This was another easily solved puzzled and as it was listed as large we were interested in how it would be hidden. We got to GZ and spotted the objects mentioned in the hint. After a little investigation we uncovered the decent sized container. Container and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for this puzzle cache Team MavEtJu we really enjoyed the hide.

On our way to the OZGM19 Mega, stainless steel rat and I stopped and found the Princes Highway series of puzzle caches. During the week leading up I had solved all the puzzles and we were pleased to be able to search and log this GCA series on the way down with a good mix of D/Ts.
Thanks Team MavEtJu (great to catch up with you at the mega)

Found with TeamMerlin, JJCC and Phlphotos. Sir Phil had been here before, so helped expedite matters to make for a more productive day.

Solved the puzzles a long time ago (except for #19). Went for a bit of a drive to give the new car a bit of a run. Coming back up from down south picked up #16, #14, #13 & #11 (this one I had signed before in January but forgot to log it). Missed #15 there was a truck parked at GZ with the driver in it. Missed #12 as there was a large group of runners near the turn off so didn't think it was safe to turn. Thanks for this series Team MavEtJu I have now driven along this area more often and skipping the motorway see a lot more of the area I had seen before.

First test of the new GPSr and took me to what appeared to be a geotrail which led me nowhere. Then went back to the main track and spotted the cache. Took it back further to sign the log and replaced as found.

The area gets quite busy with cyclists on Saturday mornings always going passed at their own pace.

Took longer to get home from this area as the bushfire had broken out near Holsworthy and Heathcote Rd was closed so the fireys could use the road to get to spot fires before the main front got there later in the day. Hope everyone is safe and all the caches survive

#GA2784 - 10:27; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. After a few stops on the way through the suburbs, we had finally reached the first cache in this series, which was our major target for today. The puzzles had been solved as part of a group effort before leaving home. A run along the highway today saw us with 21 from 23 caches found, one DNF and one remaining to be solved. After a detour into Helensburgh, we were now back on the trail, with this our thirteenth of 21 finds in the series. Another quickie and we were soon on our way again, aided by a nice sized cache container Whistle TFTC Team MavEtJu Very HappyClan Cerberus

Second to last day of the Sol de Lune / LuckyL10n NSW adventure. After attending the Morisset Mega, heading up to and back from Tweed Heads, we were now on the final leg.

This series was the main focus of the day, although we managed a couple of other GCA caches that we pasted en-route. We solved all but one, and DNF'd one...so a good result really.

No problems here and the cache was soon in hand and the log signed. Good size cache as well....

Thanks TMEJ....a neat little trail that kept us on our toes.
