Description

Princes Highway Puzzles #18

The Princes Highway is a major road in Australia, extending from Sydney to Port Augusta via the coast through the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It has a length of 1,941 kilometres (along Highway 1) or 1,898 kilometres via the former alignments of the highway, although these routes are slower and connections to the bypassed sections of the original route are poor in many cases.

The highway follows the coastline for most of its length, and thus takes quite an indirect and lengthy route. For example, it is 1,040 kilometres from Sydney to Melbourne on Highway 1 as opposed to 870 kilometres on the more direct Hume Highway (National Highway 31), and 915 kilometres from Melbourne to Adelaide compared to 730 kilometres on the Western and Dukes Highways (National Highway 8). Because of the rural nature and lower traffic volumes over much of its length, the Princes Highway is a more scenic and leisurely route than the main highways between these major cities.

The Princes Highway as a named route came into being when pre-existing roads were renamed ‘Prince's Highway’ after the visit to Australia in 1920 of the Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VIII and, after abdicating, the Duke of Windsor). South of Waterfall the highway is paralleled by the 55-kilometre Princes Motorway (national route M1) to the top of Bulli Pass outside the city of Wollongong, which carries the majority of traffic.

The cache can be found at: S plus "Get Up and Run" "Ask for More", E plus "Between the sticks" "Tom Mix".

Out with Just a cacher for a drive down the coast and we decided to grab a cache or two while passing.

Dug into the solved caches for this one and grabbed it as we passed.

Thanks for the cache Team MavEtJu.

A little head scratching and we soon had the final coordinates. Today there were no road works so were able to park and grab. The cache was in good condition.

Thanks for another interesting little puzzle Team MavEtJu.

After landing on the mainland yesterday we were headed South to the Mega, well we never drive none stop so we had to look for all this series as we travelled down. One of the puzzles was still up for a FTF when the Goose solved it but as it turned out we were to late and had been beaten by a fellow Tassie team to that honour.
Myself and Goose had great fun finding this series, a couple of them took us a few minutes to find others we were right on the money to start with.

Thanks for a nice series to guide us to the Mega.

On our way to the OZGM19 Mega, stainless steel rat and I stopped and found the Princes Highway series of puzzle caches. During the week leading up I had solved all the puzzles and we were pleased to be able to search and log this GCA series on the way down with a good mix of D/Ts.
Thanks Team MavEtJu (great to catch up with you at the mega)

Day 84 Mainland trip - OZGM
Now based at Cataract Park we headed out today with Tassie Trekkers and stopped to grab this cache as it was pouring with rain and extremely foggy so figured the roadworks wouldn't be happening, and they weren't. A quick dash to sign the log. Enjoyed the puzzles. TFTP

GCA 2,071. Found during a run down the Princes Highway with minniek today.

Having solved 21 out of 22 existing puzzles in the Princes Highway Puzzle Series we headed out for a run today to grab as many as we could for a last day grab of bonus dZ points. Next find of the day. All the finds were quick at GZ and the containers in good condition unless otherwise mentioned. This one took the longest as a tree is down at GZ - but the cache (now we know) isn't affected !

TFTC Team MavEtJu !! Appreciate the interesting series !

Came down here for a few of these caches from the series originally signed it on the 27/1/18 but forgot to log it. Must have been a senior type moment. The puzzle was solved a long time ago & parked near the cache and signed it again. Both the cache and log are in good condition but there was a guardian making sure the cache didn’t go anywhere used a stick to move it on a bit to make the retrieval a bit easier. Thanks for the puzzle Team MavEtJu

#GA2788 - 10:42; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. After a few stops on the way through the suburbs, we had finally reached the first cache in this series, which was our major target for today. The puzzles had been solved as part of a group effort before leaving home. A run along the highway today saw us with 21 from 23 caches found, one DNF and one remaining to be solved. After a detour into Helensburgh, we were now back on the trail, with this our seventeenth of 21 finds in the series. Another *FTF* it turns out. Must be the puzzle rather than the hide which is causing the grief Whistle TFTC Team MavEtJu Very HappyClan Cerberus

Second to last day of the Sol de Lune / LuckyL10n NSW adventure. After attending the Morisset Mega, heading up to and back from Tweed Heads, we were now on the final leg.

This series was the main focus of the day, although we managed a couple of other GCA caches that we pasted en-route. We solved all but one, and DNF'd one...so a good result really.

The second FTF in the series...always enjoy that. No problems here and the cache was soon in hand.

Thanks TMEJ....a neat little trail that kept us on our toes.
