Description
Released during the
A large, slow moving plant-eater, Stegosaurus would have defended itself from predators like Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus with its powerful spiked tail.
The bony plates along its back were embedded in the skin of the animal, not attached to its skeleton, which is why in most fossil finds the plates are separated from the body.
Scientists are not exactly sure what the plates were used for. They may have warned off predators, or allowed members of the same species to recognise each other. Another suggestion is that the plates were used to regulate body temperature.
There are tiny grooves in the plate surfaces, possibly where blood vessels would have been. The amount of blood passing through these vessels would determine the amount of heat transfer.
Compared with the rest of its body, Stegosaurus had a small head and its brain was around the size of a plum!
Find him, move him, selfie him if needed - Just please put him in places to keep him GCA active.

Thanks for the moveable.

The latest Geocaching Australia game runs from 01-Dec-2018 00:00:00 to 31-Jan-2019 23:59:59 AEST
For each qualifying geocache that you hide or find during the game period you will be offered the opportunity to click on a ground tile and reveal what lies beneath.
A moving cache, by nature, may have been moved since you last determined its location. It may have been picked up but not yet rehidden so it's considered 'in-transit'. There is no foolproof method of determining where a cache is simply by the log types that have been placed against the cache.
Thanks to all the CO's for the caches...
Thanks for the cache.
Picked up from Warwick, a suburb of Perth WA, within the City of Joondalup. The eastern third of the suburb is a native bushland area known as the Warwick Open Space. Warwick was developed in the late 1960s; the Warwick Grove Shopping Centre was built in 1974; and Warwick Senior High School founded in 1981.
After having brought Stegosaurus and his several moveables back from Melbourne i decided to head around the area today and drop them off so they could see this great state of ours and enjoy the many sights that there are to see. They really enjoyed their plane ride to Perth especially the view out of the window. They were excited to be in Western Australia and could not wait to look around and meet some new friends.
Thanks for Stegosaurus and meeting up with you ParisLaura
However inb the meantime this dinosaur got to see lots of sights around Melbourne for the next 2 days while i had the ebike and he bumped into a couple more moveable friends along the way. Thanks for the dinosaur ParisLaura he will get back to SA one day.
Found a nice number of GCA caches while attending the Parkville Mega Event. Happy with that !

We had no trouble finding this well hidden little moveable and it joined gold bells and GreenP in the cache box. Will take it on a road trip before getting it back out on tour.
Thanks for another in your dinosaur series ParisLaura.
Thoroughly enjoyed both the walk and the find today,
