Description

I have decided to place out a beacon cache NOR for the northerners to get.

Thanks to Kyzabra for allowing me to copy his idea until i can set one up properly when finances allow.

According to Geocaching Australia's definition....

A Beacon Geocache is a Multi-cache that uses technological means to determine one or many subsequent waypoints; This cache type may require specialised hardware and/or software to complete, so be sure to read the cache's listing page before seeking.

Examples of technology that could be used include:

  • SPOT active GPS trackers (see [1]). GCA has done some testing on these and can facilitate auto-updating of your cache should you decide to use one of these devices. Contact the admins for more information. Make sure you are using up-to-date information when seeking one of these caches!
  • Garmin Chirp Beacons: (see [2]) : These devices allow you to act as a stage in a multi-cache and send the next co-ords to the finders GPS Unit. NOTE: These currently only work with a subset of Garmin Devices with specific hardware and firmware configurations, thus potentially limiting the potential finders.

You are not restricted in what technologies you use for this cache type, its limits are only your imagination (and possibly your finances)

You will need a device that can detect wifi networks and just about every phone and tablet can do this so.

At the listed coordinates you will need to enable your wifi and two networks of similar name will appear.

I will call them %$#@*!&76

You will need to convert %$#  and @*! to a three digit number using the usual method (A=1, B=2 etc and reduce to a single digit. So P=17=8).

Once you have converted the three letters, to three digits,  you will find the cache at

S31 50. 717 - %$#

E115 56. @*! - 136

You can park at the car park at the village and walk, otherwise suggested parking is at S31 50. 227 E115 56. 512 and this will be a shorter walk. Stay off the railway line please.

DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF ANY TRACK, ROAD OR GATE - THESE ARE ALL EMERGENCY ACCESS POINTS.

We spent some time at the posted coordinates but were unable to pick up the required WIFI address so it was more a could not get started than a DNF.

Out with the Chwiliwr and Gwawr.

Chwiliwr had looked for this one some time ago but didn't find it then but today it was a quick find. Log signed and cache returned as found.

Thanks Dezzabills for placing this cache for us to find.

I think we found the right coordinates and arrived at a place with something odd, however wasn't able to find a cache there.

Joint *FTF* with Lazarus. While I was a little dubious about the beacon we went in search of the cache once we had worked out the coordinates. The clue made sense and as we walked up to Ground zero I felt a little better about the coordinates. I began my search while Lazarus searched nearby, As I moved around I spotted something that looked a little odd? Sure enough it was the cache, was surprised to find the logbook empty, bonus an unexpected first to find.. Thanks dezzabills for the cache. edit changed date to reflect the actual found date.
