Description
Welcome to Queenstown
Pull in on the way down the 99 bends and marvel at the view over Queenstown and surrounding mountains. The covered shelter here displays a snippet of the history and stories of the area, dating back to the 1880s.
This is a busy stop so please be careful of muggles. I suggest parking at the 'top' of the car park away from the shelter.

Took a drive to Queenstown for the long weekend. Had a poke around as I've never been here before in my 18 year quest to be a native Tasmanian. After looking around Queenstown, I wanted to go and look at the Linda Pub. We stopped near GZ to look over Queenstown and a thought came to me that there must be a geocache here. Sure enough, found one. Signed log and replaced into its hiding spot. In good condition. TFTC

Last cache for the day and a good one to finish with.
Had plenty of time to read the interesting information as we waited patiently for the one lot of muggles there to leave. How many photos did they really need to take??? Probably not the hundreds they did!
Thanks GOOSEANDEGG.

Day 6 of our little winter westie wander, and an excuse to do the 99 bends for a tour of Gormie and Linda (excellent coffee). A couple of other bits of caching along the way.
Found nice and easy in between bloody tourists. Everything in excellent condition here, so thanks for plonking it here gooseandegg.

Hi gooseandegg, and thanks for the cache and the views.
We'd stopped back up the road a bit, then decided not to walk to those caches as the wind was blowing the milk out of the coffee.
Found with AlbyDangles on our way to the west coast.
Gee, it was well tucked in!
All's well at GZ.
Cheers, EPs.

Our first visit to Queenstown and a real eye-opener. We'd heard so much about this place that we thought it must have been the Mecca of the west. Unbelievably, we even googled to see if there was a BCF here! We now know what to expect! Anyway...this cache was a nice and easy find. TFTC!

Apologies for the late posting. I had actually found this quite by accident. We stopped here with our small tour group for a photo opportunity and a bit of a leg stretch. After taking my photos I was having a little sit and thought "This would be a great place for a cache". So Imagine my surprise when a quick search in the obvious hiding place revealed a container!! , The tour was just about to leave so I only had time to quickly sign the logbook and replace it. It was a natural assumption to think it was a traditional cache and I was disappointed to not find it listed anywhere on the "other site". I thought "Maybe it hasn't been published yet" and kept looking with no luck. Then a friend suggested it might be listed elsewhere and Bingo, here it is. So this is my first official find on the GCA site. thanks gooseandegg, great location.

Just after this cache was published we looked at our calendar to see if we had a spot vacant where we could head west to find this one and its mate. Today was the only blank spot before we leave for the mainland. A trip was slotted in and caches identified. That was before the weather forecast. Once the forecast was announced we questioned whether we should make the trip or leave it until we got back. We decided to target the new caches and the history cache and leave the trigs until finer weather was forecast.
We set off in steady rain which turned into the worst whiteout we've been caught in. During the down pour we could see nothing, not even the tail lights of the car just ahead of us and were forced to pull off the Bass Highway behind Sulphur Creek until the squall abated. We had started the trip so decided to continue. After all we were only a little over 100k from Queenstown.
It rained most of the way and we were caught in a hail storm during a rest stop at Queenstown. After waiting this latest front out in a local café we headed up the mountain to look for this cache. The rain had ceased and there were a few rays of sunshine. One advantage of bad weather is that muggle tourists don't tend to stop and photograph non-existent views in pouring rain. We were able to quickly locate the cache sign the log and replace it without the interference of even one muggle - a rare event at this spot.
Cache and contents were in excellent condition and we were delighted to find the log book blank giving us a well earned {FTF} at 11:10.
Thanks for the cache GooseandEgg. Even though the weather was foul we enjoyed the hunt. We hope this cache gets lots of visitors in future.
