Description

A light no more, but a view for sure.

This is a place way out West, a Point where once there was a light.

But now it is no longer there, to guide ships in the night.

The track into here is pretty rough, so a 4WD is good enough.

From the cache site where you will be, the views are great of the wild, rugged sea.

Was out and about in the Smithton/Marrawah area for work seeing customers, as this was nearby made the short detour to grab this cache while here.
Great area i wouldnt have come to if not for geocaching. Love the little gems around this state TFTC

Thanks for the cache greenegrass.
Spending a few days with RLD4963 around northwest Tassie. Today we went places neither of use have been before.
Wow, this location is spectacular - in all directions. Fantastic - thanks so much for placing a cache here. It was a nice quick find at GZ - the cache is in excellent condition.

"Hello greenegrass thank you for the cache.

This was a nice easy find, it looks like it has been found by a lot of muggle as well.

MrsD and I were up the NW on a four day weekend.
Today we went down the West Coast to Temma and I was allowed to find some caches on the way, this was one of them.

Found on Saturday 24 October 2020 at 1058

An awesome location! The cache was fairly exposed and there were many muggle entries. We rehid it better, but it's still very obvious to a cacher. TFTC!
Cheers,

A long time between finds, so it was great to find this after a few moments, found with gooseandegg and Tazscout.

Bit of scrambling around the rocks before we managed to track this one down, always fun to find the ones that have sat for a while.

So great to find a cache that has laid dormant for nearly four years. Cache still in good condition (unlike the weather) which is great to see. Thanks greenegrass for this great view and 10 year old cache.

Great place for a cache. Beautiful Winter's day today. Very Happy

Found on a day of trig hunting in the Arthur River area. Couldn't resist a couple of caches along the way, especially when they are right at the trig anyway! TFTC

Lovely day! Beautiful view! But I can imagine what the site would be like in a foul wet howling westerly. Great spot for a hide.

Now if anything is going to convince Prionotes to start getting serious about gca caches surely it will be this cache: awesome location (and I probably wouldn't have come out here if it hadn't been for the cache at the end), and a decent sized cache in a nice hiding place. Can't ask for much more in a cache. We enjoyed the view, and wondered about the history of the light (noting the 1916 date on the concrete foundations). Thanks, greenegrass; I'm glad you hid this one. (A photo of the original lighthouse can be found at http://catalogue.statelibrary.tas.gov.au/item/?id=NS3195-1-4314)

Found this cache as part of my and Geo Son E's caching and soccer trip to Burnie. Geo Kid E was playing in a regional cup in Burnie, so we left early and had a great time caching across to Marrawah and back through Burnie and Ulverstone areas.

Thank you for the cache

Great cache locationc

Hi greenegrass
Found this cache very quickly on a sometimes wet and windy day; we all know what the weather is like in this part of the State.
Logged and replaced the cache at 1132hrs.
Coastal views were rough and rugged today.
Being here reminded me of my surfing days when a lot younger.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Laughing Great day!! Found my first caches. This is a great spot and found another cache nearby. We are travelling in Tasmania and staying in Arthur River. Great area. My wife took my photo with her iPhone which doubles as a half-baked GPS at the moment so couldn't include that in the photo. Must get a real GPS!! Can't wait to find some more now.

What a fantastic place. Would never have come here except for caching. Took pathtag, left dinosaur. TFTC.

A nice find on a beautiful day out west. Enjoyed an Arthur River cruise and then nabbed a few caches on the way back to our caravan park. A few surfers were making good use of what I would assume were pretty tame waves for this area.....stilll plenty for having a good time though. TFTC Very Happy

It was a warm day and very windy-- although saying Marrawah is windy is like saying Antarctica is cold-- pointing out the obvious really... We followed the gravel road to the carpark, which afforded great views of the sea rolling out magnificent waves; there were little black blobs in those waves enjoying the impressive surf. We were still about 300m or so from the cache, so we walked the rest of the way, following a rutted track between the rocky outcrops until coming upon the smooth man-made ruins amongst all the rugged stone.

The GPS had me searching in the wrong spot at first; after ruling out the impossibilities I finally found the right hidey-hole. My partner had to shelter me while signing and stamping the logbook, and plastic bags etc had to be weighed down with rocks to stop the various cache bits being blown clear out into the vast blue yonder. A wild and wonderful place, thanks so much for this cache!

Warm and windy today. This is a truly magnificent spot. Glad we had the 4wd. Thankyou for bringing us here.

Doing the wild west loop today detoured in to find this one. Made a quick find before getting blown off. Cold but sun was out. Great spot for a cache thanks for bringing us here.

Sun was about to go down so had to look quickly but was found almost straight away due to the clue. TFTC

Very Happy Very interesting place, in particular the old crown lease fishermen's cottages. Managed to squeeze a 4 ton motorhome down there so the road isn't that bad. enjoyed the geology of the area.

13-Feb-11
Getting dark by the time we got here. Great spot though. Cache found quickly. I should do night caching as I seem to have better luck in the failing light. Thanks for the cache

great area for photography liked the stone huts in the area
Thanks

Nice and easy find and a brilliant spot to stop off and have a poke around. Thanks.

We were really surprised to find the remains of this construction. The date on the side suggests that it may have been the base of an observation post in the latter part of World War I. Was it ever finished and manned? Must do some research. Took a few minutes to locate this clever hide - the construction is not completely solid. Thanks for bringing us to this area. TFTC

Found after quite a search, turns out I am stupid Smile

Needed the clue, but even then I interpreted it wrong (my fault, the hint is 100% correct). I blame the wind!!

Great views of the surging sea here, VERY spectacular!

Thanks for the cache!

Found it at 17:00. A great place. Took Gizmo, left mini radio. TNLNSL. Thanks

A spectacular and isolated spot. Mr Morris had a snorkle and fish while we were here. He almost did a Steve Irwin but the stingray got a bigger fright than he did. Cache has been found by muggles from Canberra who are very interested in the game. TFTC

2008-10-06 12:50 After the long drive and my alternator playing up AGAIN, I finally reached the parking area.
The wind was blowing fairly well, the waves were crashing into the rocks and as I write this log, the rain started. The sun was out before and quite warm so made for a nice time. Took lots of pictures and a small video before heading back to the cachemobile.
Find #18 on my "OMG! This Is So Beautiful And So Rugged" Tour.
TNL GITD bounce ball, thanks greenegrass.

The weather was getting decidedly worse the further west I went and by the time I arrived at GZ the rain and hail was driven horizontal. Made a quick dash to find...but too well hidden and had to make a hasty retreat to wait out the storm. Even after the storm had abated the find was no push over...requiring a more intensive search....but thankfully found a well hidden cache. The seas were certainly on the wild side...but fairly normal for here. I can see why the Lighthouse has gone...it got blown away...lol. Never been out here before...so well worth the visit. TNLNSL...TFTC greenegrass.....Cheers.
