Description

A good place to go and try your luck for a trout so please feel free to bring a rod,

(if you have the apropriate liscence that is)

Can be a bit of a challenge to get to but it is usually worth the effort,

Parking is a bit difficult near the cache as it is on a major road with plenty of traffic most of the time,

You can park on the Western side of the bridge

(reccomended if you only have a 2 wheel drive)

S41.31.473 E147.03.960

and walk over the bridge,

Or park on the Eastern side of the bridge but only if you are travelling West from Launceston and have a 4x4,

S41.31.135 E147.04.550

Not reccomended for kids or pets due to the fact that you will have to walk along the side of a busy road with fast moving traffic,

PLEASE BE CAREFUL

The cache is on the Eastern side of the river so unless you are a strong swimmer you will have to walk over the bridge from the Western side,

Cache is on crown land and is a black 200ml sistema with a few small swaps,

Logs

This geocache appears to be MIA so to stop it clogging the search lists we'll archive it. If the owner can confirm it is in place the listing can be resurrected by placing an "unarchived" log against it.

20-Nov-17
This one has long gone and needs to be archived.

06-Nov-12
DNF for us. No finds on this one for over 19 months?? Maybe needs owner intervention/checking or archiving. It is quite difficult to get to (requires playing frogger on a busy highway). Wouldn't have attempted it if I had read logs first.

16-Oct-12
Log book needs replacing as per last five logs

23-Mar-11
Ahh, after driving over this bridge over a dozen times, today was the day I stopped, ran over the bridge playing frogger and climbed down to gz. Had a slip, got a nice scrape on the arm, and found the cache with the hint. It is VERY waterlogged. CO intervention required as unable to write on log properly. SL, and returned. Eery being under the bridge with cars driving over the top.

18-Feb-11
Located easily but log needs replacing as it is saturated

18-Feb-11
Not for the feint of heart is right. cache in right place but log is saturated and the zip bag won't seal. Penguin was happy with the water, left ear plugs to drown out the noise from the trucks crashing past overhead.

This one is not for the faint hearted, but we were up for a challenge. Anxious Easy to find at GZ log book still wet but managed to sign TFTC

20-Sep-10
Well walking across the bridge was not fun

Found the cache, but hte log book is so wet that it is useless. A replacement is required urgently.

Found this on my way through to Launceston today. Crossing the bridge from the west on foot is a bit of a worry with trucks rumbling past all the time. Not the safest feeling. Found the cache after a brief search, but sadly it was wet. I did my best to sign the log, but the ziplock bag had come open so the log was very soggy. It really needs drying out and possibly replacing. I traded a yoyo for a Army Man that had been guarding the cache for a long time and need some R'n'R. Thanks for the cache - gave me a nice adventure on my way to Launceston.

27-Jun-10
A lovely crisp start to the day with abundant frost and much ice crunching underfoot. Like GoldJ I also returned along the rail but luckily the traffic was few and far between. TFTC

12-Jun-10
Parked just before the armaguard railing on the eastern side. The track was damp underfoot and still frosty from the sub-zero temperatures last night. Fortunately it was a beautiful day today. We walked back to the geomobile along the road which was fairly busy. Passing trucks nearly blew us backwards over the rail but at least we were walking facing oncoming traffic. TN left a soldier. For once I was driving down the highway without a bevy of kids in the back so I thought I would give this cache a go. Armed with feeble torch on a dark night I headed off down the 4wd track and soon learnt that the torch could barely differentiate between high ground, slippery mud nor ankle deep puddles. The GZ was finally stumbled upon (how close is the river, I couldn't see anything)and with the feeble assistance of the torch I found the hidey place after finding numerous caterpillars, cockroaches and other beetles of the night. Signed the log with the light of the GPSr, and the paper felt moist, sorry I couldn't dry it out. Thoroughly enjoying my adventure I bashed way back up the road only once finding the barb wire fence.....The next time I go night caching I am going to take a torch that works...and will remember to waypoint where the car was parked. Thanks 5comer3 for the excuse for having a night adventure.

Found cache quickly when I arrived at GZ, the log book is very damp. I walked to cache, but Mr tatts couldn't resist driving. The track was a little slippery and water logged in places due to recent rain, but Mr tatts loves that, needless to say he was in his element. TFTC

This was the first cache on our trip from Launceston to home on the NW Coast. It was quite a hike from where we had to park the car to the cache but once there, it was a quick find followed by a return hike. Again the log was damp, presumably a consequence of the winter floods.

Nice easy find once the walk to GZ was over

thnx for the cache

all is well at GZ

02-May-09
By the time I was passing here, there was just a tiny bit of light left in the sky...which didn't last very long. But I had my little torch and so I was able to pick my way down and back without hassle, despite a rather soggy track. The bridge span sure is big. Thanks for the cache 5commer3.

02-May-09
Thanks for the cache and the very muddy sandshoes. Parked at Eastern end. Walked along a very muddy track to find the cache.

10-Apr-09
We parked just before the armco on the Eastern side as we approached from Launceston. Followed the rough track down beside the road and down to the bridge. Distance was only about 650M each way. Amazing how much rubbish from the highway. Found OK once in the right spot.

On a hot day the water looked tempting but did not put the toe in. Found cache without any problems. TNLN Thanks

09-Nov-08
A nice easy drive by.
We were traveling light because we only had the ute so for one of the first times ever neither of us had a fishing rod with us!
With the heavy rain the river had a good flow and looked great.
Thanks 5commer3

09-Nov-08
Came down from the west side. Easy walk and found the cache quickly.
Nice hide in a good spot to visit.
Thanks 5commer3

04-Oct-08
Nice short walk to interrupt the drive from Hobart to the NW for the event.
TNLN, thanks 5commer3.
Find #1 on my "What Can Possibly Go Wrong" Tour.

06-Sep-08
Last cache of the day and my third fishy 5C3 finds.
Many thanks.

03-Sep-08
Found this one on the way back from a fishing trip at Four Springs…..
Think I may have spotted the owner of this caches ‘cachemobike’ at the said fishing hole too.
Parked just over the bridge (heading back towards the City) and took the ‘direct’ route to GZ. Probably not really the best way to get there but didn’t want to leave the ‘cachemobile’ parked where it was to long.
Found the cache quickly as co-ords and clue spot on.
Thanks 5commer3 for the cache, keep them coming.

2nd FTF for the day, seems Sirius was driving the opposite way to me after the same caches. I would suggest if you are going to this cache to park on the Eastern side of the bridge where the armco rail starts and walk the 600m to the cache, TFTC 5commer3

25-Aug-08
Thought it worth a chance for FTF...but no joy...as spotted very fresh footprints on the way in...they did belong to madchilli...well done once again. This bridge will certainly cater for a mammoth flood...such a huge span. TFTC 5commer3...Cheers.
