Description
The Penguin Cradle Trail, one of Tasmania's Eight Great Bushwalks, is an 80km walk that takes you from Penguin, a town on the North West Coast to the northern bdry of the Cradle Mountain NP. The walk gives a variety of experiences ranging from coastal views to mountain panoramas, from walking along a wild river to climbing over mountain ranges.
The PCT difficulty varies from easy/medium on the northern sections to quite difficult from Gunns Plains to Loongana Rd. and quite hard up over the Black Bluff Range and onto the Cradle Mt. NP.
Track notes and maps are available at.. http://www.nwwc.org.au/index.php/penguin-cradle-trail
Geocaches will be released in sections where possible to aid access, but will take some months to complete.
To complete the PCT series and to log the last cache, geocachers MUST LOG every geocache plus there will be randomly placed Penguin caches, where you will need to note which actual PCT # the penguin has been placed. These numbers will be required to access the last cache, which will have an appropriate reward for effort.
Most of the cache logs are in bison tubes, inside another container. A match is placed in the log to aid in rolling back up...so PLEASE make sure it goes back in to help other cachers.
All caches except the Penguins have an inkstick...so please take one with you plus notepad to record the Penguin #'s.
SO....ARE YOU up for a challenge?
If so...GLTA.....and please take all safety precautions at ALL TIMES.
Enjoy!
Hearty congrats to 2y'stassies for FTF...well done.

Today we targetted the PCT trail with whitewebbs and gooseandegg. An enjoyable walk with stunning scenery beside the Leven River. A long but rewarding trek that continues up and up. Prolific manferns towered overhead, a beautiful part of the trail. Cache and contents in good condition.

An unexpected call from relatives had Mum and I take a trip to the North West Coast on the 11th of May to visit with her brother in the Latrobe Hospital
As a result, I was able to take advantage of the situation and do some caching today
After finding caches around East Devonport this morning before our visit to the hospital today, I came over here and started the trail walk
Weather: 13 degrees Celsius Fine, sunny and blue skies with some cloud
Travel: For the day, I totalled 14.91 kilometres burning 2293 calories which required 19907 steps Needless to say, my legs are not in LOVE with me at the moment but they will learn to forgive me.
GA12068 “PCT#7 Manfern Grove”
From #6 to #7 was constant down hill; my legs are starting to dislike me intensely by now but they kept moving
Found another PENGUIN on this section of the trail - those little devils get everywhere don't they
Loved walking this section as it was quite beautiful
The brain is telling me my walk back up is not going to be easy - wanted to go further after finding this cache but one of my objectives for the day was to do the TRIG on Mt Montgomery; so this was my last along this trail for today.
Following my GPS had me arrive at GZ and the search was short and quick
Sainted at 1134 hours
One blood sucker jumped on my left hand but it was quickly flicked off without it drawing blood
All good with the cache
I enjoyed all seven caches in an area I have never visited before - thanks for bringing me here -totally enjoyable
Now, head back up the hill to the trig
TFTC and cheers

We had read the hint before heading down and saw a possible site as the trail became less steep so off on the search. Nothing was found. Then we checked our GPS - 115m. This is a Sirius Tas cache GZ wont be that far out. So it was back to the track. We did pass another five sites matching the hint and took a cursory glance at each before reaching the hide - GPS showed zero here! We stood back and surveyed the area before starting our search. It didn't take us long to uncover the cache container. On opening it we found another blank log sheet so our third {FTF} for the morning at 8:30. The container and contents were in good condition.
Thanks for another excellent hide in this series Sirius Tas. We really loved the manfern forest and no leeches seen even though the ground was very wet.
