Description

The Penguin Cradle Trail, one  of Tasmania's  Eight Great Bushwalks, is an 80km walk that takes you from Penguin, a town on the  North West Coast to the northern bdry of the Cradle Mountain NP. The walk  gives  a variety of experiences  ranging  from coastal views  to mountain panoramas, from walking along a wild river  to climbing over mountain ranges.

The PCT difficulty varies from easy/medium on the northern sections to quite difficult from Gunns Plains to Loongana Rd. and quite hard up over the Black Bluff Range and onto the Cradle Mt. NP.

Track notes and maps are available at.. http://www.nwwc.org.au/index.php/penguin-cradle-trail

Geocaches will be released in sections where possible to aid access, but will take some months to complete.

To complete the PCT series and to log the last cache, geocachers MUST LOG every geocache plus there will be randomly placed Penguin caches, where you will need to note which actual PCT # the penguin has been placed. These numbers will be required to access the last cache, which will have an appropriate reward for effort.

Most of the cache logs are in bison tubes, inside another container. A match is placed in the log to aid in rolling back up...so PLEASE make sure it goes back in to help other cachers.

All caches except the Penguins have an inkstick...so please take one with you plus notepad to record the Penguin #'s.

SO....ARE YOU up for a challenge?

If so...GLTA.....and please take all safety precautions at ALL TIMES.

Enjoy!

Hearty congrats to 2y'stassies for FTF...well done.

This was my last cache on the trail today. Again it was totally invisible beneath its natural camo, developed over time. Thanks for so many great caches that showcase the natural beauty of the area. I love bushwalking and always try to do some of your caches each trip. Heading home today. Until next time sT.

Today with the company of Trimbletas we completed the penguin to cradle track series and and a few others. We found 25 caches along the way with only 1 that we didn’t find. We majorly underestimated how long this walk would take from the start to hardstaff creek, there was a lot of challenges along the way. Once we finally made it to hardstaff creek we had to make a decision do we try to go out via the farm at purtons flats (we knew the farmer) or do we walk back. When we got back to where the pct track went off the gravel road we thought whether to go back along the river or to follow the gravel road out to dial road, decision was made to walk the gravel road back to dial road and have someone pick us up to take us back to the car at the start. The hill up from the pct track was brutal but once we got up it it was fairly easy walking till we had to climb up to dial road. Overall was a long but enjoyable day really had a great time completing this series.

this one took us about 30mins to find but once we found it we were like this is a genius spot to hide a cache. Clan Cerberus

Found in the company of DEZ055. We couldn't have picked a better day than the first day of winter to tackle the Penguin Cradle Trail. I have been wanting to walk this trail for a long time. I have walked parts of the trail previously. This is my first attempt in walking from the Penguin end through to Hardstaff Creek. Well the legs are well and truly cooked today, but mission accomplished after walking roughly 23kms. We have completed all of the caches so far in this series.
This was an easy find after about 30 minutes looking for it. Rolling EyesLaughing once found, i was very impressed at the hide. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Took me quite a while to find this one - painful accuracy of GPS.
Bumped into the runnder I saw at number 1 on his return run
TFTC.
Took the longer way to walk to this cache, and then it took me quite a while to actually find cache.
Found this cache on a 2 day trip to the NW, covering over 1000 kms and finding around 100 caches of both GCA and GC

Mr whitewebbs, Mr Tassie Trekkers a goose and an egg (sounds like the start of a joke, but no joke) headed off early to walk the PCT trail. The walk started at the southern end at #23 and after 6 hours and 14 kms later we arrived at Penguin Cradle Trail No. 1 and the pick up point. It was a great trail with great company, fantastic weather and a great series of caches to find. Thanks sirius Tas for placing the caches along it. We found the whole series of the PCT caches and quite a few others along the way. It was an area Mr W had not been in before and he really enjoyed the trail. TFTC

Today we targetted the PCT trail with whitewebbs and gooseandegg. An enjoyable walk with stunning scenery beside the Leven River. A long but rewarding trek that continues up and up. Prolific man ferns towered overhead a beautiful part of the trail. Cache and contents in good condition.

Many thanks Sirius Tas for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

This was sneakily hidden indeed, very clever! We spent a ling time here, originally a little further up the track. Mt TT was the shining light here and whipped it out of nowhere! Walking the PCT trail from the southern end with whitewebbs and Tassie Trekkers, the egg and I had a wonderful but exhausting walk! We found every cache (so far??) in this series plus a couple of others along the way so we were pleased. Thanks for bringing us on another one of your adventure trails sirius Tas.

We'd left the PCT to walk along the top of the range via Mt Dial and The Gnomon. We'd planned on having lunch at the viewpoint on The Gnomon however it was just a bit too much on the cold windy side. So we stopped at the nice dry overhang just a little further along the track instead. Thence we carried on, picking up the Tall Trees track which in turn dropped us back down on Dial Rd and thence back to the PCT for the return leg. Number 10 took a little bit of searching as it is quite well hidden but all was revealed in the end. Nice one.

We had been checking out some of the Geosportz challenges and looking at our options when we noticed that this series of caches had recently been published. Although we already had several GC first to finds we would prefer a GA first to find for the geosportz Golf challenge. As it was quite late we decided to leave our hunt until the morning.

We set out early and headed to this end of the trail. It has been many years since we walked this particular section of the Penguin Cradle Trail but it is still as beautiful and peaceful as we remember it from days gone by. The babbling water and the constant twitter of little birds accompanied us as we walked towards GZ.

Our GPSs refused to settle and we spent some time walking up the track and back again. There was one area that interested us so after exploring the objects around GZ we returned - nothing obvious, so a careful probe was made and there was the well hidden cache container. Container and contents were in very good condition. A blank log sheet gave us our needed {FTF} at 8:10. Our GPS that was still behaving in an unstable manner said we were 8m south of GZ.

Thanks for this well hidden cache in a beautiful spot and the start of the PCT series Sirius Tas. We look forward to eventually walking the entire trail in the future.

Future searchers are reminded that you DO NOT have to leave the trail to find this cache.
