Description

PLEASE NOTE:: PCT #22  can be accessed via a well gravelled AWD/4WD track, which turns off Dial Rd 50m past the Penguin Cradle Trail. The track past PCT #22 is on PRIVATE PROPERTY...so best to park 130m away at  S41 11.867 E146 03.247, although the previous 500m or so is quite steep...but I had no trouble in 4wd high range...but if unsure park at the top.

The Penguin Cradle Trail, one  of Tasmania's  Eight Great Bushwalks, is an 80km walk that takes you from Penguin, a town on the  North West Coast to the northern bdry of the Cradle Mountain NP. The walk  gives  a variety of experiences  ranging  from coastal views  to mountain panoramas, from walking along a wild river  to climbing over mountain ranges.

The PCT difficulty varies from easy/medium on the northern sections to quite difficult from Gunns Plains to Loongana Rd. and quite hard up over the Black Bluff Range and onto the Cradle Mt. NP.

Track notes and maps are available at.. http://www.nwwc.org.au/index.php/penguin-cradle-trail

Geocaches will be released in sections where possible to aid access, but will take some months to complete.

To complete the PCT series and to log the last cache, geocachers MUST LOG every geocache plus there will be randomly placed Penguin caches, where you will need to note which actual PCT # the penguin has been placed. These numbers will be required to access the last cache, which will have an appropriate reward for effort.

Most of the cache logs are in bison tubes, inside another container. A match is placed in the log to aid in rolling back up...so PLEASE make sure it goes back in to help other cachers.

All caches except the Penguins have an inkstick...so please take one with you plus notepad to record the Penguin #'s.

SO....ARE YOU up for a challenge?

If so...GLTA.....and please take all safety precautions at ALL TIMES.

Enjoy!

This one caused me some problems finding it. I only found it on the way back, as the gps had better accuracy, in hindsight I was making it harder than necessary. But certainly had to remove 2 plus years of natural camo.

Today with the company of Trimbletas we completed the penguin to cradle track series and and a few others. We found 25 caches along the way with only 1 that we didn’t find. We majorly underestimated how long this walk would take from the start to hardstaff creek, there was a lot of challenges along the way. Once we finally made it to hardstaff creek we had to make a decision do we try to go out via the farm at purtons flats (we knew the farmer) or do we walk back. When we got back to where the pct track went off the gravel road we thought whether to go back along the river or to follow the gravel road out to dial road, decision was made to walk the gravel road back to dial road and have someone pick us up to take us back to the car at the start. The hill up from the pct track was brutal but once we got up it it was fairly easy walking till we had to climb up to dial road. Overall was a long but enjoyable day really had a great time completing this series.

Found in the company of DEZ055. We couldn't have picked a better day than the first day of winter to tackle the Penguin Cradle Trail. I have been wanting to walk this trail for a long time. I have walked parts of the trail previously. This is my first attempt in walking from the Penguin end through to Hardstaff Creek. Well the legs are well and truly cooked today, but mission accomplished after walking roughly 23kms. We have completed all of the caches so far in this series.
This was an easy find TFTC Clan Cerberus

Mr whitewebbs, Mr Tassie Trekkers a goose and an egg (sounds like the start of a joke, but no joke) headed off early to walk the PCT trail. The walk started at the southern end at #23 and after 6 hours and 14 kms later we arrived at Penguin Cradle Trail No. 1 and the pick up point. It was a great trail with great company, fantastic weather and a great series of caches to find. Thanks sirius Tas for placing the caches along it. We found the whole series of the PCT caches and quite a few others along the way. It was an area Mr W had not been in before and he really enjoyed the trail. TFTC

Today we targetted the PCT trail with whitewebbs and gooseandegg. An enjoyable walk with stunning scenery beside the Leven River. A long but rewarding trek. Cache and contents in good condition.

Our last cache along the river. This was a lovely part of the track and the river views were amazing. There were quite a lot of track lengths on the river here and an odd bit of metal hanging over the edge. Walking the PCT trail from the southern end with whitewebbs and Tassie Trekkers, the egg and I had a wonderful but exhausting walk! We found every cache (so far??) in this series plus a couple of others along the way so we were pleased. Thanks for bringing us on another one of your adventure trails sirius Tas.

The section of the trail between PCT #12 and this cache is particularly pretty. The trail is covered in a thick layer of leaf litter and the sun through the trees leaves a dappled effort on the track and the banks, while the creek gurgles along below. When we reached the track junction and the Leven river we checked GC2XY59 Dial for Adventure Penguin, a cache we maintain for Carolleyres. All was well with this cache which hasn't been found for some years.

We then made our way along the trail beside the Leven. Our GPS's were still behaving erratically indicating we needed to be 30m in the middle of the river as we approached GZ. As we approached we spotted the hide, again the hint was most useful. After signing the log and replacing the cache we noticed one GPS was reading 10m while the other read 7m. So it pays to give your GPS plenty of time to settle. We sat on the rock and watched a family of little wrens hopping around on the track beside us before it was time to move off again.

Thanks for another cache in this series Sirius Tas and for another {FTF} at 10:10. The container and contents were in very good condition.
