According to Geocaching Australia's definition....

A Beacon Geocache is a Multi-cache that uses technological means to determine one or many subsequent waypoints; This cache type may require specialised hardware and/or software to complete, so be sure to read the cache's listing page before seeking.

Examples of technology that could be used include:

  • SPOT active GPS trackers (see [1]). GCA has done some testing on these and can facilitate auto-updating of your cache should you decide to use one of these devices. Contact the admins for more information. Make sure you are using up-to-date information when seeking one of these caches!
  • Garmin Chirp Beacons: (see [2]) : These devices allow you to act as a stage in a multi-cache and send the next co-ords to the finders GPS Unit. NOTE: These currently only work with a subset of Garmin Devices with specific hardware and firmware configurations, thus potentially limiting the potential finders.

You are not restricted in what technologies you use for this cache type, its limits are only your imagination (and possibly your finances)

You will need a device that can detect wifi networks and just about every phone and tablet can do this so.

At the listed coordinates you will need to enable your wifi and two networks of similar name will appear. You can even dream of the the type of baot that you would like!!!!

I will call these $&#-guest and ?!%tvn.

You will need to convert $&#  and ?!% to a three digit number using the usual method (A=1, B=2 etc and reduce to a single digit. So P=17=8).

Once you have converted the three letters, to three digits,  you will find the cache at

S31 49. $&# - 501 + (50 x 2)

E115 44. ?!%- 460 - (100 x 2) - (25 x 8 + 29) + (14 +15)

It is a nice leisurely walk to the cache which is a regular sistema. You could even ride your bike there if you are on your bike. That is why the terrain rating is low.  There is no need for rock climbing or clambering.

Enjoy the walk and the view.

Out with the family on a day of caching. Gwiber and I redid the calculations and then went to the same worked out ground zero. The GPS units had us in a slightly different spot that when I was last here and it was a quick find of the container this time. Log signed and cache returned as found.

Thanks dezzabills for creating this cache for cachers to find.

I nearly gave up on this one as there was no wifi with the required information when I got to the coordinates. It was only after about 20 minutes and only as I moved away from the listed coordinates back to my car that they appeared. (Perhaps they have shifted its position slightly) I then spent some considerable time searching for the cache at the worked out ground zero without finding a container. Surprisingly there were quite a few muggles walking by even in this weather.

Can I suggest you activate the ground zero coordinate geochecker so searchers can check they have worked them out correctly.
