Description

Hidden in GCA

There are varying types of triangles : Equilateral triangle, Isosceles triangle, Scalene Triangle, Acute Triangle and Obtuse Triangle.

If there is a single most important shape in engineering, it is the triangle.
Unlike a rectangle, a triangle cannot be deformed without changing the length of one of its sides or breaking one of its joints. In fact, one of the simplest ways to strengthen a rectangle is to add supports that form triangles at the rectangle's corners or across its diagonal length. A single support between two diagonal corners greatly strengthens a rectangle by turning it into two triangles. Triangulation of material, adds strength by eliminating lateral movement.

In fact, triangles are even used to find caches

We keep looking at all the caches around Hobart and decided last week that we would head down for a few days and tackle some more of them. Mr Beetle set to work solving some of the puzzle caches and this is one that he had solved before leaving.
Great parking at GZ for the motorhome and then it was up the hill to GZ where an unsuccessful search was made despite searching everything that fit the clue. While I got busy checking previous logs Mr Beetle wandered a bit further afield and soon found the cache, probably about 10 metres from where our GPS wanted us to look.
Then it was back to the van to put on some more bandaids to add to the ones I had to put on after looking for Robin's Nest. Paper thin skin is one of the disadvantages of getting older!!!
Thanks.

Thanks for the mystery cache OldSaint. I hadn't looked at this one since it was published but after deciding I would head out for some caching today, I sat down and worked it out over breakfast as I didn't think it would be too far from home. With the geochecker giving the thumbs up, it was added to today's list. After parking nearby and then taking the stroll to to GZ, the GeoGSP looked around in all the wrong places for quite a while. Eventually I decided to just have a quick check 'over there' and there it was. Cache is all in good order, great day to be out and about, cheers.

You can get whole books of these types of puzzles, often based on areas and sides of rectangles.
Disappointingly, nobody got me one for Christmas.
At GZ, I searched twice under everything before moving about 9m away to find the obvious hide.
Thanks!

This was another on my “ shopping list” that I did find. I work it out last night , my school maths came in handy and I added it to my list. I am sure I could have taken a more direct route to GZ but I picked up a few other GC and GA caches along the way. I chose a different route back to the car as darkness was approaching. We had an early appointment in Hobart so left extra early intending to try and collect a few moveables that we had yet to find plus a couple of other GCA caches that had been published recently.

We had just reached the little group in Mornington when we noticed five more had been put back out on Rosny Hill. Fortunately the moveables were hidden together so led to a quick grab. While one of us headed to the new Augumented Reality cache the other headed to this recently published puzzle. We had no trouble solving this one. After a short scramble up the hill through the wet grass we found ourselves at GZ but no sign of the hide. After a thorough search we expanded our search area and soon located the well hidden cache - our GPS indicated 10m NW of GZ. All was well with cache and container.

Thanks for another hide in this area Old Saint.

Just settled in at home after a long day of driving around collecting moveables when the email alerts went off. 6 new FTFs on offer. We knew we would probably not get there in time but we could use the finds during 6x period. We parked the car and saw a couple of cars we recognised so knew we had been beaten. We were lucky to catch up with the 3 who beat us and grabbed the moveables from them before heading up the hill to be 4th to find on this newly puzzle cache. A neat puzzle and hide that we found in the dark with the aid of the torches and hint. TFTP

What a mad evening!!!

After being out all day and not seeing anything of Mrs Rat all the long weekend I have to go out in the middle of watching Endeavour to grab a FTF on this one.

I talk to GooseandEgg and 1Toolman and we meet up at a good parking place, after that we head up a hill in the bush in the dark for a bit, at the solved coords we start our search, after coming up empty we expand our search and in a few minutes 1Toolman shouts 'Found It'

So we all stand there as we open it up to see if we have been beaten, and it turns out we are not and are FTF on the cache.

Thanks for the cache.

We did this puzzle 'on the fly' in the car after finding a handful of new movables. My high school maths is not as great as it used to be but with a bit of prodding we got it out and were pleased. We'd been very close to here earlier today but made the journey to GZ in the dark safely.
A joint FTF with stainless-steel-rat and 1toolman at 8.10pm.
Thanks OldSaint for the few extra points tonight, very much appreciated.
