Description

Rosny Farm

Another great spot for a history cache. There is plenty of parking in Eastlands Shopping Centre or closer at the Rosny Golf Club. There are a number of GCA and GC caches to find nearby.

"Tracing the history of Rosny Farm evokes the earliest periods of our settlement history, and reveals the evolution of the area from a frontier settlement to an urban community."(taken from board}

Today, at this location is The Barn. The Barn at Rosny Farm is a multi-purpose, small capacity arts venue situated in the cultural hub of Hobart’s Eastern Shore.

The arts venue is contained within the walls of a c1818 stone barn which has been tastefully refurbished to retain its colonial aspect whilst catering to a broad range of arts based activities. The venue is situated within the picturesque grounds of the Rosny Farm, which is also home to the Schoolhouse Gallery and Rosny Cottage. The Barn has been described by Stefan Grossman as, “The best acoustic venue in the Southern Hemisphere.”

Also located in the area is the Rosny Park Public Golf Course which was built on the old farm grounds..

We were in the area for a family visit this weekend and found ourselves with a few free minutes. So what do you do, go caching of coursed. Had a look to see what was available relatively close by and decided to visit this location. Once at GZ we quickly obtained the answers to the questions that would allow us to log the cache. Thanks for the history cache whitewebbs. The GeoGSP were out for one of our nighttime walks (we don't really have a choice during the week at the this time of year given night time starts at 4.45pm of an afternoon) and I decided we should go and collect the info for this one. I drive past this spot all the time, usually trying to get in or out the heavily congested nearby shopping centre - so it was sort of nice to be here of an evening with an empty car park and no muggles around. Thanks for the history lesson as always.

Out and about with stainless steel rat doing a couple of local caches one handed. So far so good but taking it easy.

Thanks for the history. It's a shame so much of the golf course has now been built on.
Thanks.

We first visited this area in the early 1970's. There were few shops and the golf course was fully operational. We have been here regularly since then and watch the commercial establishments and housing consume the farm and golf course. It is good to see this small part of the local history retained and maintained.

Thanks for this history cache Whitewebbs. It was a chance to review the development in this area from the early 1970's to the present day. - many happy memories.

Hello whitewebbs thank you for the cache.

I saw that you had published a couple of new caches but as I was busy I didn't worry about going out until later in the night when I noticed they were still unfound.
I first stopped off to get some photos of the information that I needed to get to answer the questions.
This is a popular are for caches as I have found a few around this area.
