Description
Cache placed just off 5 Mile Beach
This cache involves a short 4m tree climb, which you do at your own risk!
Five Mile Beach – Animals are prohibited for 600m east of 5 Mile Beach Day Use Area. Further east horses and dogs on lead are permitted on the beach except during bird nesting season (1 October to 31 March) when they must use the inland track parallel to the beach.
I was out this way cleaning up a few cache and was thinking why are there so few caches out here.
In an attempt to fix this I have placed some today for you to find along Seven and Five Mile Beaches.
This cache is up a tree so you can get the best views of Barren Island and Woody Island, the views are worth taking a camera with you.
To open the cache flip the catch and twist, just a logbook and pencil await you.

One of 16 caches found in the area today. Took a day off of work and decided to go for a nice long walk through the pine trees, which ended up being about 10km all up. Usually when I go caching solo I tend to hunt down arduous unloved remote caches but with the fire danger today most tracks were closed including the whole of Mt Wellington (although I've not got much left to do up there). So I headed here instead - what else is there today on a 40 degree day? Go shopping in the aircon, or swimming at the beach? Pfft, boring! How about a 10 km walk through very soft sand in a snake infested area on the hottest day we've had in a loooong time. Oh...let's just throw in a 4 metre tree climb too! That's more like it! And I've certainly got the scars to prove it! I'm guessing razor blades grow on these branches haha! Awesome views though, and an interesting cache container! TFTC SSR!

We set out very early this morning with the express view of looking for all the caches that we had not found along 7 mile beach. We had brought our ladder with us to tackle the 2 tree climbs as the medico in the family has strictly forbidden us to climb trees unaided - she sees she has patched up too many over fifties males who have fallen out of trees and off buildings. We made good progress to the pine with a view and quickly spotted a cable tie. A quick climb up the ladder and the cache log was signed. No muggles in this area meant that we were uninterrupted. The view was a little smokey this morning but still not bad. Loved the cache container. All was in good order. One returned to the car with the ladder while the other headed out to this years Christmas cache.
Thanks for this cache Stainless-Steel-Rat and for the little challenge it presented to us.

Well there was no choice, I had to do the climb myself. I had no sacrificial child with me and I couldn't ask the CO to do it so up I went. I guess the view was good but I was too busy posing for the snap happy CO!
I almost got down unscathed but one nasty branch tore at my arm and I left a trail of blood for the next few hours.

Hello stainless-steel-rat thank you for the cache.
A nice easy climb and find.
The cache container was full of ants, they have started to make a nest in it.
Happy new year.
I interrupted two couples having a very special moment on the beach on my way on on the way out the other on my way back.

Journey or Destination
Game Period: 01-Dec-2018 00:00:00 to 31-Jan-2019 23:59:59 AEST
It is sometimes said [citation needed] that the game of geocaching is not about the destination it is about the journey. This game is about the choices you make in the experience of the journey or the destination.
On your entry to the game you will be asked to create a playing field with a number of ground tiles. Your playing field is a grid 20 x 20 ground tiles making a total number of 400 possible steps you can take on your journey or destination. You choose whether you want to find and follow the path or whether you wanted to meander around. A playing field is unique to each player so there is no benefit in teaming up to beat the system through brute force.
For each qualifying geocache that you hide or find during the game period you will be offered the opportunity to click on a ground tile and reveal what lies beneath. There are a number of different ground tiles that will be revealed when you click on your playing field. It should be noted that there are no punishments for clicking a tile but there will not always be the reward you were hoping for as you reveal each tile.
Dirt. The ground beneath the ground tile is just plain old brown dirt.
Dirt with some points. The ground beneath the tile is brown dirt but it has some points associated with it.
Concrete. The ground beneath is part of the pathway that will lead you on your way to your destination but has no point value.
Start. A concrete ground tile that has a blue map marker.
Destination. A ground tile that has a green map marker.
Meandering around and avoiding the path will accumulate points that will be used to place on you the ladder of wanderers. The more you stay off the path the higher the number of points you will accumulate and it will be your journey that will be the determining factor in whether you place into a prize winning position. You are free to select any ground tile to click on; they do not need to be next to each other.
Trying to find the path may mean you strike out on the dirt until you eventually come across the path and as a geocacher who can't say that this isn't a tried and true method. Once you find the path however will you try and follow the path as it changes direction around your playing field? Do you go North, South, East or West to try and find the next concrete tile along the path? If you head one way are you heading towards the start or towards the destination? When you do happen upon the destination tile then you will automatically be in a winning position.
At any point you are free to change from the journey to the destination and vice versa but you won't be able to regenerate your playing field. You are also free to keep playing as long as you have qualifying geocaches, accumulating more and more dirt tile points and placing you higher and higher on the ladder.
Qualifying geocaches fall into two categories. Finds and Hides.
A qualifying find is a geocache that meets the following criteria:
The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia
The geocache has a hidden date prior to the game commencing
The geocache was logged by you on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period
The geocache was physically found by you during the game period
The geocache is not owned by you unless it is a moveable geocache
The geocache has not previously been found by you during the game period
The geocache is one of the following types:
Burke and Wills
Moveable (you will qualify only once for a find on a moveable geocache)
Traditional
TrigPoint
Augmented Reality
Beacon
Gadget
Multi-cache
Night Cache
Podcache
Reverse
Unknown or Mystery
A qualifying hide is a geocache that meets the following criteria:
The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia
The geocache has a hidden date after the game has commenced
The geocache was published on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period
The geocache has a container size of regular or larger (Note: A regular geocache has a volume of 1 litre or more)
The geocache is one of the following types:
Moveable
Traditional
Augmented Reality
Beacon
Gadget
Multi-cache
Night Cache
Podcache
Reverse
Unknown or Mystery
The game tracking mechanism relies upon your honesty when logging geocaches as found or hidden.
The games administrators will undertake verification of a statistically significant number of logs.
Players who continually log inaccurate information will be disqualified from the game. The game administrators decision is final.
The game administrators will subtract qualifying hide or find geocaches from your tally if they are found to be not genuine.
The game administrators reserve the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.
Don't forget to claim your limited time game trophies, if your qualify, while the game is in progress. Once the game completes the ability to claim your trophies is lost for ever.
I sweared at the cache owner when I got here - a "Short 4 metre climb". Anyway got to the top and quickly undid the cache to find a surprise. Ants everywhere inside the cache. Not the bitting kind, but I quickly scribbled on the log and returned to Terra Firma

At GZ, which pine cones?
Ah! Those!!
Love playing "koala" and enjoyed the challenge
Used the tool for viewing and recording the scenery
Sainted the cache at 1521 hours
Didn't quite get that high on a previous cache - two in one day
Back to the car, return home and collapse
Thanks for the exercise, the caches in this area and the fun

Hello again Stainless-Steel-Rat, this is a great spot for a cache. So great, I walk along this track quite often, so I was happy to head to GZ again today despite being here yesterday. This was the last joint first-to-find for today with EeePees and Whitewebbs. We had all started separately but soon decided to walk, talk and find caches together. The GeoGSP was also along for the walk and he had a great time. Now retrieving this cache was interesting, and like Mrs Whitewebbs, if I had been here by myself this would have been a DNF and it would have been a return trip with an appropriately tall and fit person, probably one of the adult sons. However, today the retrieval was successfully made by EeePees whilst we provided OH&S advice and support from below. There are certainly great views along this side of the spit and the walk in the forest is nice and peaceful if the weather is a bit ordinary. A favourite from me and the GeoGSP for bringing us back here.

After completing the caches along Seven Mile Beach we headed to Five Mile Beach with Lil Rafa and EeePees to see if we could get another FTF. Lil Rafa had the most energy. Mrs W was dragging her heels but got there in the end. You don't want to be the first at a tree climb! Mr EP volunteered to make the climb, which is just as well, as Mr W has only one arm 100% operational at the moment (but would have done it somehow if we had been on our own). It certainly was a nice view from the base of the tree and I am sure Mr EP had a better view from 4 m up. It was very calm on the water. A great day to be out caching with Lil Rafa and EeePees. Triple FTF at 2.50 pm. Mrs W is recommending it for the great view, not the tree climb as if she had been there by herself it would have been a DNF.

This was a great cache! Thanks SSR for it.
Having completed our finds along Seven Mile Beach, 3 geomobiles visited the Ranger's hut, so the intrepid party members could avail themselves of a bathroom break!
Then we drove over to Five Mile Beach, parked the said 3 geomobiles, and set off on foot in search of views.
Upon arrival at GZ, the container was soon spotted, and I drew the short straw (volunteered) to embark on a 4 metre journey. Eventually arrived at an appropriate 'landing platform' jostled the container for a bit to try to open it (and not fall) and despite instructions from below I still struggled. (Note to self: tricky containers are easier to open when one wears one's glasses!).
I then sat on a suitable 'perch' and was pleased to add 3 monikers to an empty logsheet.
I must say I was awfully glad to not drop anything, before contents were replaced.
The water here was 'calm as' but despite my elevated vantage, I was facing the wrong way to take in the views properly, and decided it wasn't worth the risk of trying to turn around for taking photographs.
A joint FTF with Lil Rafa and whitewebbs - excellent company for caching at 5 & 7 Mile Beaches today.
Thanks for the adventures. Cheers, EPs.
