Description

The new (and controversial) Meander Dam/Huntsman's Lake. Tipped to be a great fishing, boating, water activities spot; picnic facilities still seem to be under construction but there's a huge carpark, boat ramp and working toilets. Boom gate for vehicle access 2.3km from the lake, open from 6am to 7pm.

Cache should be easy to find, but watch for muggles.

Hi hookline
First time to Huntsman for me so thank you for taking me there.
Will return to fly fish the waters next season.
In fact there was a boat out fishing while I was there but they had to come in as it was approaching night fall at the time of my find.
Sainted this cache at 1711hrs.
Great spot.
Watch the wallabies if your driving in this area around dusk; plenty of them!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Lovely spot, no problem finding cache, left a swap. TFTC

The cache is safe, dry and still hidden from passing muggles - of which there re a surprising number. The time since the dam was constructed seems to have passed very quickly and this is our first visit! TFTC

Nice spot on a sunny clear day such as today. Having been here several times before taking up caching we know how windy, wet and cold it can be. The dam level was down several metres due to the farmers irrigation needs at this time of the year. Quick easy find as the cache was partially exposed. We placed 1 bit of typical cache cover so that it won't be so easily spotted by passing muggles. Nice area for a cache Smile

Wow.As Landy Clan stated Latrobe was calm and warm, Deloraine was calm and warm, but Meander well that was a totally different story somebody must have peeved off mother nature this day! Shocked
Great place for a cache though thanks Hookline

We left a warm and calm Latrobe to head to Meander Dam for the hope of ambushing a tailing trout but was met at the lake with a howling gale from the south. It was that cold that it was difficult to get out of the vehicle but that did not stop us looking for a cache and find one we did. Thanks Hookline for yet another great cache. The cache is safe and well.

Stopped in to find this one on our way up to the Great Lakes, very chilly today and a view of a snowy mountain in the distance. TNLN TFTC.

A pity my camera battery had died as it was such a great view across the lake to the tiers. The dam was spilling and I sat on a stump and enjoyed a few moments with the sights and sounds. TNLN. TFTC Very Happy

Rain rain go away what a day

Very nice place for a look and grab a cache at the same time
There were a few muggles about but they were un-loading boats

The water is thundering over the top of the dam (very loud)
Mini cacher didn't go much on the noise .....lol

See the attached image as it may be the first time the dam has spilled?

Was fantastic on arrival. Lake was calm, water going over the dam was roaring and the temperature was Ok. After 10 minutes the lake was whitecaps, wind was howling and we where leaving.

Came to have a squiz at the Dam with Horus, as last time we were here was at the open day before the 1st pour of concrete.

It's certainly changed now!

found cache after a short search and signed the log. Had to outsit some muggles to stash it back where we found it, but its all good!

Thanks

My last cache before heading back to Hobart.
The loose gravel on the new road brought out the rally car driver in me (I will grow up one day!) and I had the cache found and logged in not time.

I prefer rivers and streams when fishing but I couldn't not have a go on this new lake when I was right here.
Glad I did as I managed to land a nice one (maybe don't look at the pic if you like seeing live fish)
Thanks for the cache Hookline.
Took fish left guts

Spent quite a bit of time working out this way in past years and had visited the dam site before construction. It's very pleasing to see how well the actual lake now looks...with a very picturesque backdrop of mountains...some with caches. This lake will no doubt appeal to all the fisher muggles...hopefully I'll be one of them. The cache was easy to hand. Lovely spot here...hope to return with a rod. Many thanks hookline...TNLN...Cheers.

A quick detour on my way home from work (thats my story and Im stickin to it)had me at this new water hole that is definately worth a look. Didnt think I would get an FTF though.....Wahoo.....They say there is a guy around these parts who takes his FTF's very siriusly, but I guess he must have been busy this week. Left a Wright Brothers travelling geocoin and have now realised that I cant log it in a GA cache!!! could someone please move it to a GC cache please, thanks for the cache hookline
