Description
This cache will take you to a very non descript area for some.....but certainly not for me.
The area below the cache...where you've no doubt parked...was actually a bustling forestry campsite(South Arthur Camp). In it's heyday it would of
housed around 26 workers when full. It was also where I was taken to start work as a 17 yr old...as a Survey Assistant almost 38 years ago. While it
may seem inhospitable now...for me it was a childhood dream...getting to explore the surrounding bush land...locating Forest roads...and going to
places no other person had ever been. Needless to say....many a great fishing and lobster spots were found. The comradeship among us all was pretty
special.
The camp itself was quite modern with a Cat diesel generator running 24/7...the kitchen and mess hall second to none...as was the food. I guess the
winter months were the worst....as it has a 180-200 cm rainfall.....so a copious amount of card playing was usually the go...along with the same
amount of tinnies of course. So we looked forward to the summer days where more often than not, after tea heading up the bank to where the cache
is to practice our cricket skills. This slab of concrete is basically the only tangible evidence of what existed here. So for me...the first four years of my
working life and lots of fantastic memories. Rather ironic that geocaching has now brought me back.
The cache is a black 200ml sistema with logbook and pencil only.
Enjoy!

Cheers,
The Hancock Clan
So Tazscout drove along Holder road which is unpaved but was in good condition, she managed to park within about 50m of groundzero, it was a bit of a bush bash thru the waist high regrowth and this is when we spotted our chance for a game of cricket, having forgot to bring the gear we just had to look at it and go WTF!!
I had loaded the PQ onto my device but it had missed the listing so we didnt know what the story was until later that day.
The cache was spotted, well its location anyway, after moving its camo I got a stick and removed all the spider webs from what looked to be a wolf spider, after a bit if a dig we had the cache in hand and soon added our names to the log book which was in perfect condition.
Thanks for a great little cache in an interesting place.
dropped in on this one heading back toward Smithton a fairly easy find, and the mystery of the cricket pitch! a little surprising..... ok a lot surprising but there you go!
Cache despidered and signed.
Short walk to gz in open going now.
Finished finding TP5611 by accident on the way to this cache. Kept on the same road which took me via God Knows Where!!!
The bush drive was incredible though and heaps of fun in the little Toyota. When I eventually got back on bitumen; I crossed Tayetea Bridge which I noticed had a cache near it. That cache was found quickly.
Up the road from there to yours. Enjoyed the area. Soon had the cache in hand after a short walk through the bush. The cache was almost buried but found it I did.
The log was Sainted at 1210hrs.
Thanks for this one; gets top marks just for the fun I had getting there.
Cheers OldSaint.
really enjoyed the rally driving from the previous cache to this one. Found the cache easily and also the leech! Cache in excellent condition.
Thanks for showing me the old camp.
