Description

The ABC: ABC Southbank Centre

In Melbourne, the ABC Southbank Centre was completed in 1994, and now houses the radio division in Victoria as well as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It was opened by the Prime Minster Paul Keating in November 1994 (See https://pmtranscripts.pmc.gov.au/release/transcript-9405 for the full transcript).

“Located here in Southbank, ABC Melbourne really is in the city’s and the state’s cultural epicentre- surrounded by VCA, the MTC, the Australian Ballet, the National Gallery of Victoria, Opera Australia and, here in the building, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It is only fitting that it has a presence that reflects its place on this stage, as it now does.”

It is the home of Studio 31: Located in Melbourne’s vibrant Arts precinct, Studio 31 is a state of the art television studio. At 785 m² the studio accommodates an audience of up to 400 in retractable tiered seating. Cyclorama/curtain rails, scenery hoists and motorised lighting grid with enhanced fixtures combine to provide the essentials for quality productions. The HD Studio is comprehensively supported with a large production control room and back of house including make-up area, wardrobe, dressing rooms, and green room.

When you log this virtual, please add a photo of yourself and/or your GNSSr in front of the building with the ABC logo on it.

I don't believe I've ever actually been past the ABC studios before despite all my trips into the city (I tend to stick to the other side of the Yarra).
It was exciting to finally visit to be in the audience of Tomorrow Tonight hosted by Annabel Crabb which was excellent, thought-provoking and hilarious - highly recommend watching it when it goes to air.
I snapped a photo in front of the funky rainbow lights next to the entrance before we headed in.

Thanks to Team MavEtJu for the virtual! Very Happy

I found this geocache being interviewed on air at 6:15am to 6:30am this morning with Sammy J (Start Your Day with Sammy J) on ABC Radio Melbourne 774.
We had a very nice on air chat about geocaching, the correct pronunciation of the name of the game, how it started, of course what geocaching actually is, the various geocache types, how many there are in Australia (over 200,000 at the time of the interview) and a few other bits and pieces. We also have a couple of callers who called in to explain their own geocaching adventures involving hiding geocaches and the fun and entertainment that is geocaching at Flash Mob Events and night caching.
Thanks for the placement of this virtual geocache and what a way to grab the obligatory picture of the icon ABC logo in the background at 6:30 in the morning.

Our last cache today before boarding The Spirit Of Tasmania for home was to visit the ABC offices at southbank in Melbourne. Two photos were taken and have been added to the Gallery. Thanks Team MavEtJu for the cache and the series.

I travelled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. I arrived Thursday arvo and headed into the cbd from North Melbourne for a quick look around and then back to the Hostel I was too early to pick up the bike so jumped on a tram and headed to the docklands and grabbed some caches in the area. I can not believe how much the CBD and docklands has changed since we were here about 5 years ago. From the docklands i headed along the river and out towards Richmond to grab some caches in the area there. From there i headed back through Southbank towards the hostel. This cache was a quick easy find and always great to see these sites. Thanks for bringing me to this site Team Mavetju. I am still playing catch up on all my logging from my visit to Melbourne. ClappingClan Minotaur

Oh and i can not believe i get second to find on this one thanks

A quick detour this morning on my way to work to pick up this new virtual. A lot of works going on could make it difficult but no trouble at this hour.
Thanks Team Mavetju for the cache. As easy as ABC.
