Description
The ABC: ABC Southbank Centre
In Melbourne, the ABC Southbank Centre was completed in 1994, and now houses the radio division in Victoria as well as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It was opened by the Prime Minster Paul Keating in November 1994 (See https://pmtranscripts.pmc.gov.au/release/transcript-9405 for the full transcript).
“Located here in Southbank, ABC Melbourne really is in the city’s and the state’s cultural epicentre- surrounded by VCA, the MTC, the Australian Ballet, the National Gallery of Victoria, Opera Australia and, here in the building, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It is only fitting that it has a presence that reflects its place on this stage, as it now does.”
It is the home of Studio 31: Located in Melbourne’s vibrant Arts precinct, Studio 31 is a state of the art television studio. At 785 m² the studio accommodates an audience of up to 400 in retractable tiered seating. Cyclorama/curtain rails, scenery hoists and motorised lighting grid with enhanced fixtures combine to provide the essentials for quality productions. The HD Studio is comprehensively supported with a large production control room and back of house including make-up area, wardrobe, dressing rooms, and green room.
When you log this virtual, please add a photo of yourself and/or your GNSSr in front of the building with the ABC logo on it.

I enjoyed a few hours in the city.
A quick detour behind the Arts precinct and I took a photo.

It was exciting to finally visit to be in the audience of Tomorrow Tonight hosted by Annabel Crabb which was excellent, thought-provoking and hilarious - highly recommend watching it when it goes to air.
I snapped a photo in front of the funky rainbow lights next to the entrance before we headed in.
Thanks to Team MavEtJu for the virtual!
We had a very nice on air chat about geocaching, the correct pronunciation of the name of the game, how it started, of course what geocaching actually is, the various geocache types, how many there are in Australia (over 200,000 at the time of the interview) and a few other bits and pieces. We also have a couple of callers who called in to explain their own geocaching adventures involving hiding geocaches and the fun and entertainment that is geocaching at Flash Mob Events and night caching.
Thanks for the placement of this virtual geocache and what a way to grab the obligatory picture of the icon ABC logo in the background at 6:30 in the morning.
Oh and i can not believe i get second to find on this one thanks
A quick detour this morning on my way to work to pick up this new virtual. A lot of works going on could make it difficult but no trouble at this hour.
Thanks Team Mavetju for the cache. As easy as ABC.
