Description

The Arm River track is the shortest route into Pelion Hut, which is located about halfway along the Overland Track.

Mt Okleigh, Pelion East, Pelion West, and Mt Ossa are all able to be climbed as day walks from Pelion Hut.

The Arm river track is a reasonably easy walk after an initial steep climb, is fairly sheltered, and takes in some spectacular scenery and views.

Map Reference: TASMAP 1:25,000 Rowallan and Cathedral cover the whole track.

Ref - Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair and Walls of Jerusalem National Parks by Chapman, Chapman and Siseman, for access, detailed track notes, planning and safety.

Walking time from carpark to Lake Price is approx. 1- 1.5hrs, depending on how many breathers you have. Total walking time to Pelion Hut is approx. 4- 5hrs.

Once you reach the Lake, take the minor track that skirts the Northern shoreline of the Lake, and rejoins the main track on the Eastern side of of a small bridge that crosses a creek that flows into the Lake from the North.

There is a magnificent view from GZ across Lake Price with Mt. Pillinger as the backdrop. No need for bushbashing, cache is accessed from the minor track skirting the Lake.

Cache is a black 200ml Sistema with log book, pencil and stash note.

Took our Scouts up to Pelion hut for the long weekend and bagged this one on the way up. A bit of a slog up the hill which I completely failed to recognise was going to be a seriously painful downhill trek on the way back.
Lovely little spot at the lake, would have been smarter if I hadn't put my pack in the middle of an ants nest but these things will happen.

Cool Found this one on the way back from Bumpy Landing. A Fine but overcast day with beautiful reflections on the lake.

Lunch stop today on the way out from our weekend loop. Just got lunch finished before the forecast rain started. Great views of Pillinger across the lake that we walked up yesterday.

Always on the look out for another excuse to go walking so why not pick up a couple of caches along the way. Must be a beautiful view across the lake on a good day but alas, the mists rolled over everything and we had to exercise the imagination instead.

This cache was just fantastic! It was our last bushwalking cache in Tasmania for this year and what a positive note to leave on. We set out with the CarrollEyres with the intention of making it to Pelion Hut. While we never made it that far we were not disappointed. The view from this spot was terrific! The whole plateau was covered in deep snow. The lake had a very thin layer of ice over it. A wonderful place to stop for lunch before heading home, tired and happy (however a little cold). Thanks GeoSkid!

This was our first walk along Arm River Track and obviously our first cache to find in this area. Lake Price is definitely well worth the stroll/clamber/climb up the hill. Initially we were on our way to Pelion Hut and hopefully have time to discover Bumpy Landing and the other Arm River Track Lake Ayr cache but there was too much snow, too little time and too much pretty scenery for two children to explore to make the trip feasible. Therefore we settled for a picnic by the lake and after warming up our feet and tummies we went exploring for the cache in the waist deep snow. The cache was signed and logged, the ice covering Lake Price admired and Mt Pillinger awed over. And then we walked back to the car, the return trip proving to be much faster.
Thanks Geoskid for the cache and the Brizzyb3llas for the company. We will be back....

Found it on a navigational training exercise. Proved that I can use a GPS.

Have had my eye on these caches for some time and busting to walk along the Arm River Track so in the excellent company of 'Dippy' it all came to fruition. This being the first cache along the track nestled beside the the very picturesque Lake Price with the awesome peak of Mt Pillinger as a quite speccy backdrop. Found cache easily in the most likely spot. An awesome place and a great start to the day in what was going to be one of the most memorable caching days ever. Many thanks geoskid...just love these type of caches...TFTEC...Cheers

Had a fantastic 10 hr walk today with Sirius along the Arm River Track. I was really pleased to have come along, as I'm sure I never would have walked it otherwise and it was such a great day and they were all great caches. His skills as party leader were exceptional! This cache was wonderful - I loved the location and I think the photo shows it! Enjoyed seeing the tail end of the waratahs, amongst many other wildflowers. Sirius in true-to-form speedy style was first on to this find - but it seemed all nice and dry to me when he passed it to me for logging. Thanks so much geoskid - I loved this one.

What a happy coincidence that I was walking up the Arm River Track this weekend after a change of plans due to the weather. This is a beautiful little lake with Mt Pillinger behind it, well worth the (very steep) climb up to it.
