Description
As this cache belongs to a series...PLEASE NOTE conditions at cache.... geocaching.com.au/cache/ga1150
This cache is at an altitude of 1300m and will take you to the northern edge of the Central Plateau Conservation Area and as with all of Tassies alpine
areas please take all appropriate precautions. Access can be gained from the Lake Highway at S41 43.396 E146 43.441
A quite steep and tortuous climb should see you on the plateau within 30 min. or so. Additional pink tape has been placed as the track zigs and
zags quite often. Once on the plateau the track skirts around a rocky outcrop and then basically follows the edge of the escarpment. The track is well
marked with rock cairns and additional pink tape. The track has some sheer vertical drops along the way....so please take care...more so if
accompanied by pets or the younger brigade.
Canines are allowed into the CPCA but you require a FREE 'Companion Dog Permit' which is available from Parks at MoleCreek....and by following
some simple guidelines.
On a clear day ...views of Bass Strait and all mountain ranges south, east and west can be had. Beware of the sheer vertical drop within 3m of GZ.
The cache is a black 1.2lt sistema with logbook, pencil, code printouts, 3 Tassie Devil badges for first 3 finders(no swap required) and usual swaps.
Enjoy!

Logs
One said they took a wrong turn at Lake Meston lol
I’ve driven past the trailhead a ridiculous number of times, and this time I had planned - I would be finished with work in Deloraine at 2:30pm and come home over the highlands, enjoying a leisurely walk to the bluff. As it happened, I didn’t get away until after 4pm, so I didn’t start walking until 4:40pm.
The clamber up was tiring but beautiful, and then the plateau walk became a little tedious except for the amazing edge drops now and then. By the time I got to the far point, mist and clouds were rolling in, but I still got amazing views.
The walk back was faster across the top but slower down the hill (old knees).
All about just under 2 1/2 hours including taking in the views.
Thanks so much for the cache, which is why I knew about Projection Bluff in the first place!
Cache is in excellent condition
Many thanks for the cache.
BTW..I've a special Devils badge I'll pass onto you.
The views were great and interesting as they were different to those we have become accustomed to on our usual mountain hikes. Nice to see the great lake from that perspective.
Couldn't spend to long at the top though as we seemed to be the main course for most of the wildlife.
A nice and different walk. Thanks Sirius.
Great cache location - Well done.
the climb was fun but was a very foggy day. went off the track for a while so took some time to find the cache but it was real good.
took some tape from the cache and put a golfball in, i reccomend taking afew golfballs and a club it would be awesome to hit one off the cliff. overall it rocked
Highlight of the day was 3 eagles soaring directly above us so close you felt you could reach out and touch them. They flew from us over to Quamby and back again several times on the wind and thermals.
Sorry Sirius but the Eagles where better than the cache, but without the cache we would not have made a second trip here.
Our party of ten had a great walk up form the car park to the summit with little 4 year old legs capably coping with the climb to the plateau. And then things turned ugly. We were wearing shorts, no gaiters and those alpine plants have lots of pointy leaves. Ouch. We were able to follow the markers across the plateau but the constant scratching was demoralising. The views were worth it, the cache easily found and the carried beer truly appreciated. We brought down more bottles than we carried up though.
This is a fabulous walk Sirius, many thanks for placing this cache here. The next one on our list should be Ironstone.....
It's been a long time since I stopped caching seriously, I still have a slight interest. So as part of CraigRat and my commitment to doing "One good (bush)walk a month" in the interest of getting out and exploring our fine state we tackled this one for our second walk of the year. A fine walk it was too with views that never tire, even on a hazy day like today.
Cache was found after a short search of the area, we then settled down for lunch before setting off back to the car.
Took koosh ball thingy and left lapel pin.
Oh and having now read the cache page I see it's part of a MEGA series, not good for a person that teeters near the edge of the obsessive compulsive precipice. Might have to up it to TWO good walks a month
Thanks Sirius Tas.
Horus and myself have committed ourselves to 'One good walk a month' and I thought this walk was just what the doctor ordered. and I was right.
A steep but rewarding climb to the top, stunning views and a cache to boot. Heaven.
Took many photos, and soaked up the vista, and even in the haze it was beautiful.
If I can do a cache like this every months, I will be a very happy chappy.
Thanks Sirius, your cache locations are tops!
One of the things I loved most about this climb was the mosses and lichens all draped on the weathered, gnarled trees and rocks; with the sun trickling through it was like some kind of enchanted wonderland. Then of course the plateau itself with scoparia and other wildflowers stretching out in colourful clumps as far as the eye can see and the exciting clifftop walk and grand views. It was all awesome.
We were only about 100 meters into the walk when we spotted the first signs that someone was here not long before us. There was no sign of any car at the parking coords and two different sets of geriatric looking footprints meant it was unlikely to be one of the two trips sirius made over the last few days. Hmmm could it be geoskid?, Strebor Wanderers?, Hookline?, or maybe Neribil and 3DG???
We continued on up the escarpment and then the lovely walk across the plateau to the cache.
Spot on coords (as always) meant a quick easy find and I took loads of pictures (as always).
Congrats to 3DG and Neribil for FTF.
Thanks for this excellent series of caches Sirius. The legs are getting a good workout and so is the competitive nature in me, but best of all I am seeing places that I am certain I wouldn’t have seen if it wasn’t for your amazing effort in these cache locations.
Thanks
I reluctantly agreed, so off we went - he had to drive due to my overindulgence at the office party the previous night.
Nice climb to get the blood circulating then once on the plateau didnt bother with the track and just followed the arrow.
Nice empty logbook greeted us.
Yay! FTF for the Northerners!
Another quality cache in the series.
Many thanks Sirius......I'd rather do one cache like this than a dozen drivebys.
BTW MB - I'm not a bugger....and I'm definately NOT OLD
Well next time you will have to be quick as the cache won't even have time to cool down from being in sirius's bag by the time I find it.
We had perfect weather and not a drop of rain. Magnificent views and a fabulous cache location.
Thanks sirius for a top cache.
BTW...it's pouring up here today...so cache may be safe from those keen northerners for this weekend any way???
