Description

The Zig Zag Track is the steepest of the two tracks linking Kings Bridge with the First Basin.

Near GZ is a lookout which overlooks the Tamar Basin area, the Seaport, and the Silo Hotel. You might be able to smell the snags from a certain hardware retailer over the river.

This cache is located four or five metres above the track.

To access GZ;

- Step up onto the rocks at the base of the steps, next to the tree.

- Once you have stepped up two large rocks, turn left and scramble through the fallen tree.

Please watch where you are going! The cache can be accessed safely without the need to walk near an edge. I would advise to not attempt in wet or frosty conditions.

Cache is small-sized and contains a log book, pen and some swaps. Sign the log and enjoy the views from up here. When replacing, please make sure it is put back securely in its hiding place.

Hi Ryan
A road trip with Budge had us travel through the Highlands in order for me to collect those GCA caches I had not yet found
That done and having found other caches at Turners Beach; Wesley Vale and some exciting Trigs around Beaconsfield we finally made it to Launceston to look for this cache
The up looked a bit treacherous but not so in actual reality
Extraction from the hide was interesting as was the replacement
Sainted the cache at 1820 hours
Enjoyed doing this one immensely - Thanks!
Now onto our next find
TFTC and cheers

A beautiful day in the gorge so Mr T took the Zig Zag track to find this cache. Finding the correct elevation makes this Tricky to find.

Well - this cache took some finding and I had to PAF. I climbed the rocks and in effect was about 2 metres from the cache, but the wrong side of the boulders. I climbed down and attacked from another angle and found the cache

TFTC.
Took the longer way to walk to this cache, and then it took me quite a while to actually find cache.
Found this cache on a 2 day trip to the NW, covering over 1000 kms and finding around 100 caches of both GCA and GC

We arrived in Launceston with an hour to spare so decided to stop at the Gorge before heading to this evenings event. Mrs Y'stassie was elected to make the search.

She zigged and zagged in a steady stream of after work walkers and runners until she reached the object mentioned on the cache page. Yes it was what she had expected. After waiting for the last muggle to disappear up she went. She then crossed the obstacle and soon spotted the hide. Being rather short she knew she would not be able to reach the covering material so had to find a natural aid. Said aid in hand she carefully removed the covering objects, catching each one as it came down for fear it might drop and severely damage one of the evening walkers. Cover removed container was spotted. Reaching up she just managed to dislodge it. Feeling pleased with herself she forgot she had to catch the container as it descended. As it rolled towards the edge she just managed to get a foot in front of it. This stopped its forward motion.

Log signed she then had to replace container and cover. Careful manipulation of the container on the end of the natural aid - took a while but got there in the end. the covering material proved a little more difficult with the added danger of it missing its target and dropping onto the pathe below. Replaced as best she could but the next finder, hopefully someone taller, might be able to replace the cover a little higher.

Time to come down. As she began her clamber down two young men came jogging down the track. They stopped to ask if she was OK. Even though she assured them she was they insisted waiting until she had safely reached the track. One commented "You've done that before" as she slithered to the path. She had to explain what she had been doing up there. Satisfied they went on their way and she zigged and zagged back to the car.

Thanks Ryan00 for a challenging cache, the view from the hide was very nice today and yes, the container and contents are in good condition but the covering objects are in disarray. The cache should still be safe from accidental finds.

Headed off to work an hour early today to allow myself plenty of time to search for this newly published cache, and there was the possibility of the ever elusive ‘first to find’ up for grabs. Arrived at ground zero and with no sign of the cache or a likely hidey hole resorted to following the clues. Reckon the cache is a good 15 metres above the track, so not one for those with a thing for heights. Searched about for a good few minutes before returning to a spot already scrutinised and spied something just a little out of place. Turns out that Whitewebbs had beaten me for the ‘first to find’ never mind, maybe next time. Well worth the effort with the cache nicely hidden and a challenge to get to.. thanks..!!

FTF @ 10.45 We decided to head North for family reasons today and to collect a herd of dinosaurs as well. We noticed this cache hadn't been found so Mrs. W sent Mr. W up the track to find the cache. He followed the instructions as outlined (thanks for those) and made the find, it was a bit of a stretch (Mrs. W would have failed as vertically and terrain challenged) but the clean log book was soon in hand. A good view from up here. Mr W spent his teenage years exploring this area so thanks for the memories. TFTC
