Description

One for those who enjoy beaches, as you will walk along four of them if you do the circuit of the peninsula and go for this cache as well (Hazard beach, Cook's beach, Bryan's beach and Wineglass). Be prepared with appropriate camping and hiking gear as you won't be able to get to this cache and back in one day. The only good source of water is at Cook's Hut, the streams were dry or undrinkable when we did the circuit, so bring plenty of water.

The walk to Bryan's beach is one hour from Cook's Hut (we did it in 45 mins walking quickly). Add to that another half hour to walk along the beach itself (a 3 hr return trip in total). The cache shouldn't take long to find with the hint.

Cache container is small with only a logbook and pencil, but feel free to add some small swaps if you like.

Remember that Freycinet is a National Park, so you will need a parks pass.

Enjoy the walk, as it is magnificent!

Hello Hookline thanks for the cache

I have been watching two new cache for a while now waiting to see if anyone else was going to find them. As work requires us to take a four day weekend on show day I thought it would be a great opportunity to go for a walk and find the two new caches on the Freycinet peninsula. I asked the group that did the South West Cape walk with me but only one of them was game enough for another walk with me.

I started the trip on Thursday at 0700 leaving Glenorchy and picking up Grahame and Karl on the way only stopping at Swansea for a coffee. After stopping in at the visitors centre to check on what the water situation was on the tracks we started walking at 1020. We stopped at a little cove just before the start of Hazards Beach for lunch at 1210. After another 3 hours walking we arrived at the camp site at the end of Cooks Beach. The weather was fantastic as was the camping area. After a rest we ventured down to the beach to watch the sunset.

After getting up early we went for a walk out to Weatherhead Point to find a trig point before returning to the camp for morning tea. After that we walked out to Bryans Beach to find one of the new caches that was on our list. From here we continued down to find your cache before continuing on to Passage beach where we had lunch and looked over the ship wreck before returned back to the camp a Cooks Beach.

Found at 1115

Sue and Peter and I walked to Cooks Beach on Thursday and set up camp. On this day we walked to the southern-most hill on the peninsula via Bryans Beach. Not long after leaving Bryans Beach I noticed an unusual and suspicious-looking placement and immediately thought it needed checking out. Lo and behold - a cache! We duly wrote in the log and made a note of the name so we could log it on this site. This is my first GCA cache. Surely they won't all be this easy. Thanks for the hide.

Our objective for the days bushwalk was the southern peak on the Freycinet Peninsula above point Geographe. The approach was by walking to the end of Bryans Beach and it was while passing this way that Graham (Graham51) spotted a suspicious site. Suspicious that is only to a geocacher.
So this was very much a surprise bonus for the day.

Camping at Cooks beach over Easter, this was a good afternoon walk to get out of the westerly blowing into the camp site.
An enjoyable walk along the beach and a nice easy find. The cache is dry & in good condition.
Thanks Hookline, we enjoy these more remote caches & this is one of our favourite places to visit.

Camped at Cooks overnight, and getting tired after climbing Mt Graham and Mt Freycinet. Easy find, nice walk.

Well after the disappointment of yesterday afternoon we found this one in the morning and this is now our 100th GA cache instead of the Gauntlet 'C' that I had planned. Nice spot, been about 30+ years since I was here last.

Arrived at Cooks beach camp site after lunch and set up camp. the rain set in so in bed by 6pm. Fine the next day so it was a pleasant walk through the bush and along the beach to the Bryans Beach camp site and then to locate the cache without undue problems. Back to Cooks beach for the night. Walked out the next day in fine weather. A long walk and big effort to bag this one but these are well worth the effort. TNLN Thanks hookline.

This is a perfect cache to get by boat !!
A nice cruise across the tranquil waters to within a few metres of the beach. Cold drinks and a BBQ on board to celebrate a cache find in superb surroundings.

Those were my thoughts after having lugged the backpack full of camping gear, by foot to Cooks Hut. Set up camp and was now half way along Bryan's beach trudging the last 800 odd metres to GZ.
It was getting close to 5:00pm and the feet were starting to complain.
That last 800 metres seemed to take ages to cover.
But finally I made it to the end of the beach and after a quick scramble up the shore found the cache in the obvious place Smile

I took a moment to sit down and take in the surroundings and fill in the log book.
The view is spectacular this far south along the peninsula.
A half dozen fridge and BBQ equipped boats were anchored here in the bay.

Now I only had the last 5.6kms to cover to get back to camp !!

Crickey Sirius, I reckon your a Greyhound in Staffys clothing, fantastic time - and taking the long way! No wonder your feet were sore, - your soles were smmmokin'! Saw your report on BWT - will consider that on similar future walks. Sure was a great walk!
Cheers, Geoskid
P.S Hookline - If this cache ever needs a maintenance visit and you cant make it, Please give me a Hoy, I'd love the excuse for a return visit with my son- (or wife or both).

Left the logbook sign in at 0645 and a quick jaunt soon had me at Wineglass Bay for the latest cache....then it was all stops out to get to Bryans Beach. All was going well taking just on 2.5 hrs to Nth end of Cookes Beach. Taking notice of a yacht moored towards the end of the beach then running into and talking to the family concerned I must have passed the Cookes hut turn off....so kept walking around the beach thinking the track may turn up close by...but of course it didn't. First mistake...no map with me...2nd mistake...I wasn't equipped for off track walking as only in shorts with no gaiters...so should of back tracked. After negotiating headland after headland I was starting to wonder if I'd ever get there as the distance remaining stayed constantly high and actually increased at times. Also water was starting to be a worry even though I'd taken 2 ltrs...but not enough given the weather and my off track antics. Needless to say this stretch of coastline is quite speccy with constant views over to Schouten Island with its quite prominent mountains. Arrived at Bryans some 4 hrs later from Nth Cookes beach ...quite the worse for wear.
The bay at Bryans was indeed like one gigantic glass of 'Blue Heaven' cocktail with the prominent Schouten Isle ever so present. This certainly is a fantastic location in such a pristine environment and most definitely well worth the walk in.
It was great to be actually back on a beach...so soon had the cache in hand. The log has been signed and a note from a muggle entry who'd stopped by from a cruising yacht. I reckon this is one cache that may get more muggle entries than cachers...as the hide is quite prominent. Hopefully they will all be kind and replace as found...and I'm sure that most will.
Before heading off I took the chance for a cooling paddle...while it was quite cold it was ever so refreshing and boy...did the feet need it.
After a bit of resting I finally left Bryans at 1425 on quite a slow return journey. Thankfully there was still some remaining water in the tanks at Cookes Hut...but down to the last rung...so future cachers take note....you will need to carry all water if coming in over the summer months...3 ltrs min.
The old feet were getting quite a tad sore by now finally signing off at 1930 almost 13 hrs after starting....quite an epic to say the least and one I wouldn't like to repeat...I'll stick to the tracks next time. Most cachers should make the return in around 9 hrs...so certainly doable in a days walk.
Huge thank you Hookline for getting me here as I'm sure I'd of never done so other than for caching...even though I went via the unorthodox way...lol....Cheers.

This cache finishes off the Circuit walk perfectly. I'm not sure if I would have gone to Bryans Beach if this cache had not been there, but it was, so I did (of course), and so glad I did as its luvly. Left cooks camp at 5.50am and had the beach to myself, with a yacht and a fishing boat anchored quite some way out in the Bay. The cache was found in it's well presented hidey hole after a short search. It was now 7am on a crisp sunny day, and the solitude and serenity overtook me, so I 'Nuded up For a Smilie'- as you do!
Thanks Hookline - fantastic cache!

An incredible effort indeed, March Brown. Well done!

I am impressed March Brown - walking 42km in a day (and up two mountains en route): seems an incredible feat to me. Wow.

20-Dec-08
Walked out here via Mt Graham and Frecinet peak so this one is a bit out of the way and adds a few kms to the total trip.
What made me determined was that I have done just this walk several times before. Well it is a lovely hide and easy to find, stunning beach and today the weather was perfect for the views. The walk was 42kms long according to the gps. FTF to me.
Thanks heaps Hookline
