Description
I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series |
Mullumbimby 2.0
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Mullumbimby is mentioned in the third verse. Mullumbimby is located near Byron Bay and has a population of just over 3000 people. It's situated at the junction of three arms of the Brunswick River. The name was given to the district by Aboriginal people because of the proximity of Mount Chincogan (in photo). It was an excellent site because the river was tidal and could be easily navigated to that point. Its central location gave access to all areas of the catchment area and it provided the best position for bullock teams to cross the river with their wagons loaded with timber. At low tide it is still possible to see the shallow region where the bullocks made the crossing of the Brunswick River. The cache is hidden in a garden with a lovely welcome sign as you drive into town from the highway. It's a small container, with a logbook, pencil and a few swaps. Please rehide well. |

Unfortunately the hiding spot for this cache has received damage since the flood, so I’ll archive this one and a whole new Mullumbimby ICEM cache will be placed soon.
I stopped by to try to find this cache. I looked but did not find it. I ducked behind the sign in the garden to have a less conspicuous search. The cache may have been taken.
I just finished watching one of the Flickerfest sessions in Mullum tonight. Best of Australian Short Films. Not bad either. Done very clever ideas there.
I was planning on grabbing this cache straight after thinking it would be all quiet this time of night. WRONG! It appears everyone at Flickerfest tonight are from the coast and heading home at the same time as me. But hey, it's dark and they are headed away from me so outpacing can't see a thing. So I snapped up the cache and signed the log in the dark. Tripped on a rock and nearly fell on my face as I walked away after replacing it. haha.
The cache had water pooled in it. I dried it out and had to throw a couple of items out. The log book is still damp though.

Thanks to the clue a very quick find.
Did feel a bit conspicuous here with a house right next to GZ.
We tried to park the van strategically but couldn't quite block out the house.
For a little town there was an awful lot of traffic passing this spot.
Thanks.

Out and about caching around Byron Bay with Tassie Trekkers and we stopped to locate another cache in the ICEM series. Glad to tick another off the list. TFTC

What else to do on Australia Day? Go on a mini-road trip and find some Geocaching Australia caches.
I haven't been to Mullumbimby for ages, but was pleased to see while its becoming 'hipster-ized' its keeping its character, as long as it doesn't start selling $14.50 ham sandwiches. Having read Melissa Lucashenko's book Mullumbimby for Book Club, I was curious to see some of the locations she mentioned in the book. Yes I geeked out at the grounds shed at the cemetery where one of the main characters in the book worked.
Thanks for the cache.

I am very pleased. I found another ICEM cache. Another tick on my adventure list.
It was very windy. When we died to put some leaves and stuff on the cache before we left it, the breeze kept on blowing it off. I think it was right when we left.
Suzy calls Mullumbimby Mullum, so we took a photo with just that part of the word. You can also see us better.
Thank you for the cache.

Thought we'd take a drive in to have a look at the Biggest Little Town in Australia. It's been a long time since the last visit. Went to a wedding in Mullumbimby when I was 15 and stayed in a pub. I liked it, it was an exotic thing for my family to do. Nothing about the town is familiar except knowing it's become a bit more hip since the old pub stay. Really enjoyed our visit today and to be able to find another ICEM. TFTC MattyRx.
