I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series

Wallangarra 2.0

I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Wallangarra is mentioned in the third verse.

Wallangarra is a small town located in QLD right on the border, and is the third most southerly town in QLD. The addresses on the NSW side of the border are in the locality of Jennings. There are about 400 people that live in town. The name is of aboriginal origin, and translates to 'Plenty of Water'

Wallangarra is located in a gap between two mountain ranges, which is why the New England Highway and the railway line both pass though town. The town was built because of the railway - back in the olden days the width of the train tracks used to vary between states. It was here that the 'break of gauge' happened. Nearby Tenterfield had the necessary infrastructure to handle the break of gauge, but the governments of the day though that it needed to happen precisely at the state border.

Until 1982 The Anderson Meat Packing Company operated a large beef abattoir at Wallangarra. Anderson's employed in excess of 400 workers at the Wallanagarra plant. The plant was located on the border so as to take advantage of rail lines from both Queensland and NSW. After this closed the town's future looked dim. Ten years later, however, Australia's largest mutton works opened on a new site just to the east of the town.

Wallangarra is also the gateway to some massive granite outcrops and is the southern end of QLD's Granite Belt. Nearby Girraween National Park has some great walks (and caches) that allow you explore some of this terrain.

The cache is a small sistema container, with logbook and some swaps. It's located in a garden at a church, just off the main highway. I've included a spoiler pic in the gallery if you need a hand finding it. Interesting storty about the 4 trees planted in the church grounds. They are over 100 years old now - the things and times that they have seen! Old mate next door has some pretty cool metal sculptures. Mind the red-back spiders!

We decided that this would be the last one for the day. Very good coordinates took us straight to the area and we soon had the container in hand. The container and contents were in good condition. We admired the well kept area and the nice little church. The use of leaves and prunings to mulch this area adds to the depth of cover for the container and its rock.

Thanks for another ICEM cache MattyRx. Mrs y'stassie was very pleased with her haul of 3 ICEM caches in one day

we are on our way home from the mega in Canberra and stopped here for the cache TFTC

I forgot thee I'd found this before until I saw the sculptures next door, and my name in the log! Apparently I'd forgotten to log my find then, so here it is now.
The cache was well and truly buried, as per the description, under an oblong paver. I've cleared that, so it should be easier to find now.

Meandering

Meandering my wat south from Toowoomba after attending the Dayboro Mega event. I was hoping that this cache and its nearby friend were south of the border as I am after Dragonzones. No worries I am not in a hurry it just means another stop along the way. Thanks for the cache Mattyrx SL

Another ICEM to grab as LuckyL10n and I headed home from the CacheQLD Mega. Arrived at GZ and soon had the cache in hand. Signed the log while checking out some of the artwork next door. Someone is creative and obviously has a lot of time on time on his hands. Very cool work...

Cache was replaced and we were on our way again. Thanks for another one in the series MattyRX...

#GA5161 - 13:10; Day ten of a road trip with Sol de lune for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega. After a big day of caching around Dayboro yesterday, wrapping up with the trivia event in the evening, we set off early this morning for home. The mission for the day was to cache our way south collecting GCA and GC caches along the way, as far west as Warialda before finishing the day at Glen Innes. Stopped off in Wallangarra for our second ICEM cache today. Another nice quick find and sign before snapping the engineering marker at the railway station and hitting the highway again. On our way home from the Mega at St Arnaud and left Tamworth at about 8 am. Only a short drive today ( 400) Kilometers to overnight stop in Stanthorpe. Co ordinates were spot on for me and how could you miss not finding it with the hints. Loved the spiders and other art works. TFTC MattyRx. Clan MinotaurVery HappyClan Minotaur

Day 33 Mainland trip
On the move North from Tenterfield and stopped to tick off another in the ICEM series. An interesting spot next door. We liked the redback on the tree near GZ. TFTC

How many times have we passed through and not known this was here. There was some amazing stuff next door but MrG just couldn't get past the mobile mini moke bbq with roof. We realise now after walking from the driver reviver, Wallangarra is a town of lots of quirky stuff. What an awesome start to the day this cache gave. TFTC MattyRx.

We are slowly making our way home to the Lockyer and stopped in Wallangarra to have a look around and to find some caches. When we saw this one published we put it on our ‘to-do’ list. Very Happy
Some clever metal art next door that we took time to admire.
Thanks for the cache MattyRx and adding more fun to our day.

Yes I am a very long way from home but we've been on a road trip and I found the cache. Actually I am First to Find. How cool is that!

It was pretty easy to find the cache. No we didn't go into the yard, I got Suzy to reach under the fence. The container made a useful platform for Max and I to sit. There were some interesting sculptures in the yard next door. That big black dude was a bit scary.

Thank you for the cache.

When we rolled into town, I felt sure the cache was somewhere around the park with the driver revivor but we wanted to visit the train station first. It was only after I looked at the map in more depth that I realised it was in a different direction. Then arriving at GZ what a cool spot, both the church - although I think its been deconsecrated so ex-church, and the yard next door. Someone has serious skills. I should have taken a photo with a certain bear in front of Vader - he's as close to an ewok as anything. Then again, it was getting late, and we were getting hungry, although a small side trip down to the army base was interesting.

As Samboo would say... another ICEM adventure ticked off.

Thanks for the cache.

I can’t understand why a person will take a year to write a novel when he can easily buy one for a few dollars.
