Please note: Multigrip Pliers may be required to open this cache!
This beach is not 'strictly' in the Gold Coast - It's actually in the Tweed Shire Council LGA, and is the northern most beach in NSW. The average joe in the street would call this a Gold Coast beach, so here it is in the GeoTour. Duranbah beach is also known as Flagstaff Beach, or abreviated to D'bah. Some even call it the 'Big D'.
That last statement was a lie.
Duranbah Beach is popular for its surf conditions. The beach faces east, which exposes it to high wave energy and high longshore rates. The waves are predominantly from the south-easternly side; however, they can come from all seaward directions. The waves are on average 1.3 metres and have reached six metres in height during a king tide. There are often persistent rips and strong tidal currents which make the beach a potentially hazardous place to swim.
The cache is designed to blend in to its surroundings and is hidden in plain sight. Due to the nature of how the container is constructed, there's only room for a pencil and a logsheet. There is information recorded on the cache container that will assist you in finding the Gold Coast Beaches GeoTour Challege Cache. (Big D caching. Love it.)

There is some pipework going on in the immediate area just to let you know Matty. The pencil was covered in hair so I gave it a wipe down and some sanitiser to it and the tube and added another pencil on the opposite side of the paper for next finder. hopefully it will all be clean.

Didn't need the GPS here, just pulled up right near GZ and jumped out and logged the cache. Worked out how to open them by now.
About 20 swamp rats were out on the water but none in the carpark which made life easier.
Again thanks for another brilliant GCA hide. Much appreciated after being in the GCA wilderness of the Sunshine Coast.
Well eventually the surfers prepping for the waves finally moved on and I could grab this cache. I was aiming for a quick stealthy grab but it actually took a bit more effort than expected to retrieve the cache. haha.
Another awesome hide Mr MR. TFTC
Out and about with Tassie Trekkers hunting down GCA caches and this was one we found. A clever hide. This geotour has shown us some fabulous spots. TFTC

Quickly crossed the road and spotted it from a mile off, having previously found some in this series yesterday.
Another well-placed cache, completely hidden from the eyes of muggles (and there were a lot of them out today).
Signed the log and returned with no realisation from the general public.
Thanks MattyRx for placing this cache!

Thank you for the cache.
Duranbah beach was named after the SS Duranbah, a North Coast Steamship which ran aground here in 1919. Ironically, the boat was named after a small locality in the ridge between Kingscliff and the Tweed Valley. There is a school there bearing its name. A friend of mine, who was a music teacher at Duranbah Public School, recalls the day a young surfer drove into the school grounds and asked "where was the surf break?". Err mate, its quite a distance "that away". There was an attempt to call this beach Flagstaff Beach in honour the Flagstaff which was positioned on the hill above where the pilot station was located, but the name never really took hold.
Thanks for the cache.
