Description

Samboo likes to think he owns this park, but in fact its Schuster Park

Samboo Bear is having great fun exploring Schuster Park. At 68 hectares in size there are lots of places for adventures.

The land was originally owned by Benedict (Ben) Schuster who settled in the Tallebudgeera area as one of the orginal settlers in the later part of the 19th century. He ran a dairy farm, but was also a blacksmith. The property and business passed down to his son Joe, who was also a shire councillor. The property was acquired by Gold Coast City Council who turned it into the park we enjoy today.

The park is dog friendly with one of the largest off-leash areas on the Southern Gold Coast, although there are areas which are dog prohibited and spots where they must remain on lead. The park contains wide open lawns, as well as wooded areas, and wetland areas. This space is also a koala conservation area, so look up. There is a small land bridge, which takes you onto the Peninsula Trail, which then takes you through melaleuca woodland, she-oak open forests, mangrove and saltmarsh communities. When its time for a break, there are picnic and BBQ facilties, as well toilets and a kids playground. Access to the park is either by car via Heather Street, from Tallebudgeera or via pedestrian (cycle) bridge on 19th Ave. In otherwords, lots of spaces for an adventure.

At the time of updating this listing (4/10/20) Samboo has  5 GCA caches hidden in the park, and 2 geocaching.com caches

Keep watch on the Gnome Tree (S28° 7.664' E153° 26.678') Sometimes its a 'portal' for Moveable caches.

Excuse me ... my name is spelt S.A.M.B.O.O not Schuster

Found the orienteering mark, and the hollow beneath it. Nothing there except a disturbingly deep pool of water. Poked a stick in there but found nothing

I visited Schusters Park on the Gold Coast on the last day of Blitz 2021. I spent a few hours walking around the park finding an assortment of reptile and transport movables. There were many groups of visitors enjoying the park and furry friends having fun with their owners. I navigated to the tree and found a very nice hollow for a hide. Thanks for the cache Petan.

We accompanied Samboo Bear on an inspection of moveable caches around the park today, checking to see that all are ok. Most are fine - still a few to be checked but we also wanted to check the two geocaching.com caches we have since put in, which is why we shall have to return to see how the others are,

This cache is fine, perhaps a little damp but will dry out considering the amount of rain we have had.

Plenty of caches to find in Samboo Park now.

Since we'd had a lot of rain recently, we checked it this afternoon during a post Christmas lunch meander around Samboo Park.

It was a little damp inside, so I dried it out and rehid it.

This is good to go.

Watawieh from Norfolk Island South Pacific.
Mr Ted wanted to find all the treasures that his friend Samboo has hidden all over Schuster Park. We had great fun Criss-crossing the park. With Mr Ted’s help we found 3 GCA Traditionals plus another 2 caches on the big Geocaching website. But before we could find them all there was lots of thunder. Mr Ted said he doesn’t like getting his fur wet. He says it makes him smelly.

Saw this the other day so returned to claim a find Thans SambooBear

Since Schusters Park is our local park, and we walk it at least once a week, I usually give both the petan and Samboo Bear caches the 'tap' test. In other words, are they still hiding and if I clear a little covering and tap can I hear plastic. Well this one had had the tap test but failure on out part to actually open the container meant that we hadn't picked up that the logbook was wet. Thanks GayeNT for alerting me to the fact that the logbook was wet.

We replaced it this afternoon while on today's walk.

Photo from todays walk in the park but not near GZ.

We found this one after completing the nearby AR cache.
Unfortunately we were unable to sign the log as it was so we the pencil just wanted to tear the pages so we took a photo of the log book if proof is needed.
The cache was exposed and had been found by muggles as there were two sets of 'signatures' int eh log book that appeared to be muggles, based on dates and online logs.
Thanks for the cache petan.

Happened to be in the park for some exercise. It was pretty much deserted and since its been a while since it was last found, we took the opportunity for a cache check.

Yep, still there.

27-Aug-19
After finding the other cache and having lunch we strolled over to this one where a quick find was made.
We now know what an orienteering marker looks like.
Thanks.

Hi Samboo. I love your park. There weren't too many muggles here today. In fact there were more of Max's type of friends here. I can see why you would enjoy picnics here. I am going to have to pack a picnic myself when I return to check out your picnic cache. TFTC Smile

Day 66 Mainland trip
Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers and we headed out from Nobbys Beach when we thought the rain had stopped to target a group of GCA caches. When we arrived down came the rain but we managed to find 4 out of 5 caches in the park. It is a lovely spot. TFTC

This is my second cache find in the park today. Because I arrived so early, there weren't to many muggles to be wary of. I'm starting to know my way around Schuster Park pretty well now, and had this cache in hand in no time. Thanks for the cache Petan - now to convert all these caches back to Griffin after Geono turned them green!

Did we make a smart move to get to Schuster Park early or what! Well it's not that hard to be early when you're a daylight saving NSW resident in Qld. Not long after we found the cache a family set up a picnic right here and started flying a drone. But for us a {FTF} at 8.08am. What a lovely park this is! TFTC petan
