Description
Ummm... It is Under a Rock!
On a journey out of the remote, once-thriving osmiridium mining settlement of Adamsfield in Tasmania’s remote southwest, I couldn’t resist this hide opportunity. Well, OK, after the “Will I? Won’t I? Will I? Won’t I? Will I? Won’t I?”, I ended up not resisting! I’m just not used to the whole “Impulse Hide” and am still coming to grips with the fact that I have just placed a cache with a ridiculously high level of Spontaneity, and no MMoPP! (Months and Months of Prior Preparation)!
The cache is on Clear Hill Road, a dirt road that in good weather is quite suitable for 2 wheel drive use, as long as the usual “dirt-road-driving-caution” is taken. The coordinates will put you in the area of a widened section of the road that allows you to park on the side. You should be able to see a rock.
A large rock.
A VERY LARGE ROCK!
The cache, a black camo’ed 1.2 litre Sistema, is hidden under the NORTH face of the rock.
BUT HERE IS YOUR CHALLENGE:
Can you circumnavigate the Rock on foot BEFORE you go ahead and find the cache?!? It is quite possible, should only take a few minutes if you are reasonably fit and able, and it is quite a hoot! OK, I amuse easily! BUT can you resist the urge of a quick find long enough to take the challenge? The challenge has resulted in the 3.5 terrain rating, but terrain is only a 1.5 if you wimp out and go straight for the cache!
Please take care replacing the cache so it doesn’t disappear under the VERY LARGE ROCK!
Rumours that the rock is, in fact, a STW sitting on the entrance to a large underground MIB base can neither be confirmed nor denied.
There are barriers on both the Adamsfield track and the Clear Hill Road, which are permanently locked. Therefore, all vehicle-based visitors to Adamsfield, including those travelling by motorbike, four-wheel bike or mountain bike, require an authority and a key. You can obtain these by contacting the Mt Field National Park Visitor Centre. A $100 refundable deposit is charged for the key. The maximum number of vehicles in each group is six. To ensure access it is recommended that you book in advance.
Visitors to Adamsfield do not require a Parks pass.
Adamsfield is well worth a visit, and further information to whet your appetite can be found here:

Logs
Given the time constraints on our day we whimped out and went right for the cache!
Thanks anyway and that was a very impressive rock.
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan
Thanks SG-3
After an eventfully drive to the site and a short walk the cache was in hand.
Thank you Alby for a great event and thank you for the cache
Thanks for the historical information about this area SG-3 and for the cache that give us a reason to stop and explore the rock.
Cache was quickly located and we were on our way.
Thanks.
It has been over 25 years since our last visit to this area and we thoroughly enjoyed returning to find this cache and the other 5 caches at Adamsfield.
Thanks for bringing us back here and for the cache SG-3 and gorbak we had a great day.
GoldJ and I decided to visit Abbottsfield today and this became the first cache for the day.
After cutting a tree out of the way after it had fallen across the road; we came across this small mountain and quickly found the cache.
We logged this our first today at 1127hrs.
This became my 3014th overall find; comprising 1244 GCA finds and 1770 GC finds.
Thanks for a great start to the day.
Cheers OldSaint

Spotted from a fair way away but took the easy terrain as we know sirius was probably only 5 minutes behind...
Thanks SG3 (and Gorbak)
*FTF*
Not a lot of traffic so easy to pull up and get the cache.
I don't think this one will get wet.
Thanks SG-3 (and Gorbak!)
