After discovering these GA's can be accessed off line, we used the phone gps to locate this one and several others here at Adamsfield. This being done on an AlbyDangles Event, it turned out to be a bit of fun as a group tour. There certainly were NOT any caches of any kind here at Adamsfield on a number of previous visits back in the early 1970's ........... that is fifty years ago ! LaughingClan Minotaur

Found this one along with everyone who attended the GC event organized by AlbyDangles.
The whole area here is so interesting.
It was great to have a cache or two to find whiile exploring.

Attending an event organized by AlbyDangles who then led a 4WD expedition to the old mine workings and of course to grab a few caches that were in the area. A group of us located this cache much to the annoyance of a group of "two and a half centimeterers" Now that doesn't have the same fluency off the tongue as "inchmen" but technically I guess that is what they were. In any event the log was signed and the cache slightly relocated when replaced. Very Happy

In Adamsfield at an event put together by the ever helpful Alby so of course we needed to visit as many nearby caches we could find in the time we had.
A group of us headed up the hill in search and the container quickly found along with a few very annoyed Inchmen who didn't like their nest to be disturbed so we replaced the cache back slightly to the left so as not to upset them in the future.
Left a Scout behind and a few new signatures. TFTC

Have updated the cache description to reflect the current deposit cost. Thanks Hancock Clan for the info and for replacing the other missing and damaged caches in the area.

Interesting spot, and interesting reading that the key deposit was $100 when this cache was published. It's now $300.
An easy find and all is in good condition. TFTC!
Cheers,

Found with everyone at the 2018 Adamsfield event.

This was a great little cache I would have never got too if it wasnt for the trip setup by Alby.

Thanks for the cache.

After finding its GC partner in crime all attention turned to this cache, it was to be the last one found in this wild wonderland. The logbook was passed around then we went back down the hill to explore the old site and handful of remaining relics.
I never got to see the Hilton here, there's not even backpacks now Wink
Thanks again Gorbak (& SG-3)

I came in today with the Adamsfield event organised by AlbyDangles.

23-Oct-17
Found as part of a great cache adventure organised by Alby Dangles
After an eventfully drive to the site and a short walk the cache was in hand.
Thank you Alby for a great event and thank you for the cache

Found whilst attending Albys great cache event to the Adamsfield area.. TFTC

22-Oct-17
After attending the nearby GC event, it was time to head off in the 4WD's and explore Adamsfield. This area was out last big stop for the day and after a group find for this and the nearby GCA cache we enjoyed exploring the mine site. Thanks for the cache.

22-Oct-17
After stopping to explore several of the other sites we finally arrived at the end of this road. We parked below and walked to GZ where the cache container was quickly located. It had been safely tucked away. All was well with the container and contents.

It is sad that the hut has long gone but good that the history remains. Several people explored what appeared to be a rubbish site. Its always interesting to see items that remain in these areas.

It was now time to watch Swampy repair a leaking tyre Before we headed back down across the little creek to our track out.

We appreciated the generocity of our 4WDers as it would have been unlikely that we would have been able to reach this part of Adamsfield under our own steam.

Thanks Gorbak for the cache and an insight into the history of this area. We're sorry the Hilton is no longer there but this cache keeps its history alive. We hope the cache does not collapse from the shock of having so many visitors today after being last found in 2015.

22-Oct-17
It's a bit sad to visit here today, as we remember the old Hilton that was on the site when we first visited, but time, fire and the bush move on, and it is now history. Our original visit inspired us to revisit and leave a cache in remembrance, but our technological incompetence meant that we didn't realise this cache was already in situ - duh! In fact, we probably sat on top of this cache to eat our lunch when we placed the other one!! Our bad. TFTC

22-Oct-17
Hi Gorbak, thanks for bringing us to the Hilton. Pity the bushfires destroyed the history, so thanks for this commerative substitute. Found as part of a group find after the nearby Adamsfield GC event when 5 generous 4WDers drove us along to/thru Adamsfield. After find this and its nearby GC partner, most of us enjoyed a wander around the mine site. Thanks for the adventure.

22-Oct-17
We left home at 0700 to attend an event at Adamsfield. The event had been organised by Alby Dangles. Alby supplied all the geocachers with morning tea, bbq lunch and afternoon tea. We had five 4wd vehicles in the group and after lunch we headed off to paddle through a few puddles. We all stopped at the bottom of the hill and followed the arrow up to GZ. Another interesting spot. Spied the flattened teapot and found the cache. Thanks for pointing this spot out to us. We would not have gone here except for geocaching. Back to the cars and back to event GZ, but wait there is another cache nearby we have to find of DDT's. TFTC

Another for the day. Cache was there, so was the teapot. Nearby at the cut my
uncle told me a sad story of a young man who lost his life when he stepped down from his excavator, and was subsequently squashed by it. They needed to bring i another to remove the vehicle and the body.
What a strange area, there is evidence that some people have been bringing up their vehicle up another track, which is very steep, also the big rocks that were blocking the way have also been moved.

Somehow it took forever to get to this cache; just way longer than we thought it would, about an hour or more to walk 1.5kms... maybe the hilly terrain or we were just slow, I don't know! Eventually we made it to the mine site but the weather was coming in and there was absolutely no shelter (really wish that hut had still been there!!) So we hurried up to GZ, what was left of the hut (a concrete slab and a lonely teapot, which was a nice touch), just managed to scribble in the log book before the sky poured on us. It was a long walk back to camp in the rain, and we were suitably soaked and cold when we got back!

It was a very brief visit to this cache but thanks for the adventure and a place we would never have come to if not for the caches.

A nice easy find after coming down from Stacey Lookout.
Thanks for replacing it OldSaint.

Found on our school holiday caravan and caching trip to the south west.

It has been over 25 years since our last visit to Adamsfield and we thoroughly enjoyed returning to find this cache and the other 5 caches in the area. On our last visit the hut was here so a shame to see it gone.

The day was perfect and the track was just wet enough to satisfy the 4WD element of the adventure.

Thanks for bringing us back here and for the cache gorbak and SG-3 we had a great day.

Hi gorbak
Was looking forward to a stop over at the HILTON but only found the cement floor.
Unfortunately, we didn't find your cache as we think some of its cover had buried it.
It was replaced as we thought it should be hid at 1337hrs.
Would not have visited this site were it not for yours and SG-3's great caches in the area
Thanks to you both for giving me this experience.
Thanks to GoldJ for being great company and giving me such a fantastic day.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Well we went for this one and found that it was missing in action so we replaced it. Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC

This cache find was actually 1 year and 1 day since my first visit to the then Hilton. Pity the hut has succumbed to the ravages of fire. It was also a little sad in that there were no more caches remaining to find....so returned to Clark's hut...getting late in the day...so decided to camp the night in quite a picturesque setting. There's something special in camping next to a stream...no one else around for miles...just the sounds of birds and burbling of the stream...the perfect end to a magic days caching...an experience I'll never forget. Some might think that there are too many caches here...not me...as you need quite a few just to get the real feel of the place...and make it ever so much more interesting. Many thanks Gorbak (& SG-3) for sharing your experiences with the rest of us....truly appreciated....Cheers.

Found by Rebulus after initially dismissing it - I was actually taking photos and reminiscing about what the place used to look like when the Adamsfield Hilton was still here.
This time I took the cachemobile further in and only had to walk 120m as NPWS have put in a rock barrier to prevent us from making this a drive by.
Thanks for showing me the carnage of a bushfire - pity the Hilton has gone.

A FTF find for me. I think the site actually looks better with the hut gone Thanks Gorbak (&SG3)

17-Jan-09
Shame to see the hut gone but glad a cache was put so near to where the other one was. We had a good trip in with no problems finding caches.
Thanks Gorbak (& SG-3)
