Watercourse: Repentance Creek
Hike Distance: Drive Up

This is the Northern Rivers big one. The longest drop of any of the local falls - the water falls 100 meters over the huge rhyolite cliffs into a pool below. On a very clear day you'll see out to the ocean from the viewing platform. The trek to the bottom of the falls is well worth the walk, and a swim in the plunge pool at the bottom is an amazing reward for anyone making the effort to get there. Allow 4 hours return, but this hike is not nessessery to gain a smiley on this cache. The cache is located near the lookout at the top of the falls.

Minyon Falls is far more spectacluar after rainfall. In dryer times the waterfall can stop flowing altogether and while the view of the cliffs are interesting - it's nicer to see the water tumbling all the way to the bottom.

There are plenty of shady places for a picnic with tables and BBQs on site, camping facilities are at nearby Rummary Park.

This cache is part of the Waterfalls of the Northern Rivers Geotour - a series of 10 caches highlighting the best waterfalls that the NSW Northern Rivers has to offer. Each cache has a clue which will help you compile the coordinates of a bonus cache.

Logs

This is the second time I have attempted to come to the falls. The first time I drove up Rummery Park Road but did not realise the road was closed until several kilometres later. It was too late to take an alternate route on that day. Today I have travelled via Repentance Creek Road and the day is sunny with blue skies. There are many people at the Minyon Falls lookout area. I have found the GZ but am unable to look at the cache. I am on stake out looking for an opportunity to swoop. I have been sitting in my car and realise that I can no longer hear voices in the picnic area. Now is my chance. All the walkers have left for their bush walk. The coast is clear. I have but a short time to find my prey. I am crouching down and mostly hidden. There's another voice. I hope they haven't seen me. I hurry to extract the cache, sign the log, reassemble and take photos. Woo hoo, job done! No time to look for a bonus clue for the waterfall challenge. Not a moment too soon before more visitors arrive.

oops. just realised I hadn't logged this. after a lovely walk to and swim at the bottom of the falls, SMS and I came here to view them from the top. and find a GC cache whilst here. but priorities people! I had an FTF to find! Saw the camo as soon as I saw the correct location. bingo! and another FTF! thanks for these waterfall tour caches. I'm almost done! I think I've only got 2 trads to go before the final. and now I have a car so I can go whenever I please...almost. TFTC

The trouble with being punctual is that nobody’s there to appreciate it.
