Description

GZ is beside a walking path around a small lake sandwiched between the old and new Hume Highways.

There is plenty of parking at the nearby Rest Area, which features a substantial stone shelter, featuring old iron wheels worked into its side walls as vents.

Wheels in the Walls.

Of course, I like the wheels!

The shelter was built as a training project with the support of many local organisations. Their names are on an information board on the shelter. It has a picnic bench and there is water, but its BBQ, like the toilets, are out of service.

Nearby, you'll also find a plaque bearing the image of a Ned Kelly Helmet and the words McDonnells Hotel.

I'll leave you to research the meaning of that!

I did find an item online mentioning fishing at the lake. Maybe you'd like to give that a go too!

The cache is a sistema container, painted brown, containing a log, pen and swaps.

Enjoy!

We have driven passed this cache more than a couple of times but today we stopped to look for it. What an interesting site. We didn't see any signs of the little native perch that have, according to the information board, been relocated here as part of a program designed to help increase the numbers of these little fish. We followed the path to the published coordinates and searched all the nooks and crannies. Alas we found nothing. Mrs y'stassie continued to poke in an area were there was a build up of sand and leaves. Suddenly her walking pole hit plastic. After a little serious digging we uncovered the container. The contents were in good order and we were able to add our name to the log.

Thanks for another cache hide Whheels. This interesting little place certainly deserves more visitors.

My very first cache! Mr. Green In my excitement I didn’t heed the bull ant warnings and as I knelt down to uncover the cache I very soon discovered I had planted myself right in the middle of the nest. StabbyStabbyStabby 8 whopping stings later, the cache was mine. Absolutely worth it! Dancing Cute little green Ribbit inside too.

#GA3900 - 11:45; Day one of the St Arnaud Mega trek with Sol de lune and after heading off along the highway early. Stopped off and grabbed the cache near the water reserve before heading up to this one. Didn't park in the most obvious and convenient spot, but still got to GZ unscathed where we located and logged the cache. TFTC Whheels Very HappyClan Cerberus

On the way to the St Arnaud mega with LuckyL10n and this was our first stop (for a cache) after leaving home. Ended up walking a bit further for this one, but all was good and the cache was soon in hand. Log signed, cache replaced and we were soon back on the road and off to the next one. The start of a big weekend....

Thanks Whheels….neat little spot.

We're doing a loop today from Wangaratta to Wangaratta via the painted silos. Along the way we tried to pick up as many GCA caches as possible. This area was a familiar place, sure we'd found a cache not far away on a previous mainland trip. A quick find once we reached GZ. TFTC

Remember caching in this park before.
A quick sprint to GZ today where the cache was quickly found in the obvious place. Loved the little frog in the container but didn't have any swaps on me so had to leave it there.
Last cache for the day after an early start after disembarking from the Spirit of Tasmania at 6.30am this morning.
Thanks.

We were on our way to not so sunny Melbourne to drop the Princess back to Uni after her week long Easter break, and we noticed that this one had been replaced so we stopped in for a second go.
Dad took the nice short familiar walk to GZ to find the cache very easily, and signed our name in the log. Now back on the freeway for the long haul south.

Muggle Hubby did the retrieval here, clever hide, but coordinates spot on.
Thanks for the nice stroll around the lake Whheels, on our way northward to the Mega at Queanbeyan

Travelling through the area with geovan in tow we stopped and thought we would try our luck here. Surprised ourselves when we actually found it after the previous DNF. Cache and contents in good condition and finding a blank logbook we will claim [*FTF*] @ 12.30 hrs. Lovely spot to stretch the legs and have a break.
Many thanks Whheels for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

We had our eye on this on ever since we got the notification it was published, but each time we drove past we weren't able to call in due to lack of time. But today was different, today we swung in and dad went for the short walk to GZ, but despite extensive searching, and even spreading out a bit, the cupboard was bare and we didn't come up with the container, despite there really only being one spot it could be at the co-ords.
Oh well, you can't get them all.....
