Description

A DIFFERENT SORT OF MEMORIAL

This is amemorial to a respected man of his time and probably his grave as well.

It is set in a place with a view which is spectacular. To quote wifrom the enscription:

"John Beamont died 19/12/1872 aged 83. arrived in 1813, 1818 appointed naval officer later treasurer provost marshall, sheriff, and registrar of deeds. Died universally respected".

The memorial is close to a lookout and a dam face. Very interesting place.

Looked under many rocks but came up empty handed. Too good for me today.

01-Apr-18
couldn't find a cache container, but did find the back of a note book. May need maintenance.

18-Jan-18
Sooooo many rocks, they were doing my head in. Gave it a pretty good stab but I had to give up on this one.

ROBTAS thank you for the cache.

This was my second find in the area but I did forget to bring a pen so I took a photo of the damp log I will send it to you if you like.

On a trip just to look at the lake, we did some caching too.
Despite the packed carpark, there was noone up here at all, so we got to look at the memorial, find the cache, and sit on a rock enjoying the views in peace.
Thanks.

17-Mar-16
We had fish and chips for lunch at the 'pub' and then ventured down to find two nearby caches. Very interesting monument and great views. Thanks for the cache Robtas.

We found this cache by accident and signed our name in the log and have just found where to log this ,If you are nit happy with our log please delete

We decided on a family drive in perfect weather. Leaving around 0930, we went up through the midlands and turned off at Oatlands (we chose this road rather than the one at Tunbridge because the egg had not driven this road before) to head through to Interlaken, then onto Great Lake and Miena, continuing on the Marlborough Road to Bronte Park and then home via Tarraleah followed by a well earned pub meal at Ouse. We arrived home at 2215 after a wonderful day.
After our lunch and the Virtual Historical Marker cache we followed the track to the memorial. Great views from here but I didn't spend too much time looking- there was a cache to be found! A quick rock hop led me to the right place. A few rocks removed and I had the cache and soggy log book in hand. It is still easy enough to write on though. TFTC

Well, we have visited this memorial at least once before, so it is a bit of a mystery as to why we have never logged this cache! We assumed that it was one of those caches that we had found and signed the logbook, but never got around to logging online. However, we went through the logbook and there was no mention of the DDTs! Anyway, all ok now!! TFTC

Travelling around Australia, from our home in WA.

Another lovely day with sunshine!

Mr Felix made the walk to this cache. He took along some gaffa tape to cover the crack up. Logbook however is soggy.

Such an exciting day seeing Liffey Falls, The Great Lake, and Snow!!!! WooHoo. (remember in WA snow is almost non existent)

An interesting inscription on the memorial. We were a little puzzled over the mention of an "inland sea" here back then way before dams. Was Great Lake always this great? Although it's been almost another year since the last find, due no doubt to it's hidey hole the cache & logbook are still dry, though top of container is a little cracked. Thanks robtas.

04-May-14
What a lonely place for this memorial. Found the cache easily once the muggles ahead of us on the path left. Would never have found this place but for caching. The lid of the container is broken, the log book was dry but the little bag of crystals in the container is getting wet. May need some attention. TFTC

10-Oct-13
close to a year since last find!
I have recently placed a cache nearby so I went to check on this one and found it to be in good condition and hidden well.
TF5C!

Another instance of geocaching bringing me to places I otherwise would not have gone.

04-Oct-12
Finally I returned to this cache after not being able to find it last time. This time I had it within 20 seconds in the first place I looked. Cache Blindness I suspect

27-Apr-12
Found it at 1.30pm. Took plastic worm, L earplugs. Thanks

05-Feb-12
Wild and woolly today overlooking the inland sea. Thanks for this incredible spot

20-Dec-11
Nice short walk from the car to this cache. Everytime I look out over this lake I am amazed by the size. It really looks like a coastline. Quick find with the help of the hint. TFTC.

An easy find on the way home after a days caching with Sirius. TNLN Thanks

06-Nov-11
Had a good run through here with the dogs. Good little walk - worth the effort.

14-Oct-11
Stopped to stretch leg legs on my way to a job in Bothwell Today. A nice short stroll to GZ. TFTC

12-Sep-11
Found with whitewebbs on the way to Hobart. A short walk from the dam car park and we were soon at GZ made a quick find then took the time to look at the memorial. Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache

11-Sep-11
Found with Tassie Trekkers. Great spot for a cache and a lot of interesting history. Would not have stopped here otherwise. TNLN. TFTC.

28-Aug-11
This is an interesting place Robtas. We found this cache on a terrifically windy day where the waves were tumbling over the arched dam wall before the larger earth filled wall. What a beaut place to have as a final resting place, to imagine that Beaumont was placed here before the dam was built and filled is pretty amazing. Thanks Robtas, this cache is in a place worth discovering.

23-Jul-11
Found it in deep snow. Glad the rock wasn't completely covered! Had to rock hop to get to it as didn't want to leave obvious trail right to the spot. Left worm and took starfish. TFTC

10-Apr-11
What a different designed memorial! Searched for some time in the area of the clue and was about to give up when I found some disturbed rocks some distance away. Found the cache and rehid it closer to the clue.

07-Mar-11
Searched and searched with no luck

Found perfect place for cache but no cache

15-Feb-11
Found on the 14th in company of Runciple lovely spot on a sunny day

15-Feb-11
Found on a beautiful sunny day what a fitting place for Beaumont to end up. Relieved solder from his watch and left a philosopher to discuss the virtues of righteous life against one of wayward missogeny with the magnetic ROBTAS sticker thanks ROBTAS

12-Feb-11
Did this one on the way back from another cache in the area. What a great spot to have a grave. They always say the dead have the best views and this is one of the better ones I have seen in a while. Thanks for the cache

27-Jan-11
Paid our respects at the memorial then on to find the cache
Thanks

16-Jan-11
First find of the day on our 5th anniversary roadtrip - found much more easily than the previous cache that was placed at the memorial. A great spot, water seems higher than last time I was here.

Thanks for putting another cache here Rob, it's well worth visiting.

16-Jan-11
First cache of the day on our epic 5th Anniversary tour.

It was a lovely place to re-visit in such nice weather!

Thanks for the cache!

Decided to take the high road on my way to Hobart tonight. Was running late, so limited myself to a single cache.

Wasn't sure how best to approach the cache - so ended up going overland. Interesting rock pyramids between the road and the cache...

Found the cache easily - co-ords perfect. The log book wasn't too wet anymore. Paid my respects at the memorial, and took the easy route out - and the long walk back to the Pajero. For less excitable caches - park at the dam carpark - it's a very short easy walk from there.

03-Jan-11
Log book is very wet

03-Jan-11
Found quickly in a very beautiful location. TFTC

03-Nov-10
Either the topography has changed since the hint was provided or the area in which the "highest rock" was located was very restricted. Anyway, our GPS led us to the area of GZ and a quick find was made. An interesting memorial to one who, obviously, was highly respected. TFTC

This is really close to GC cache 'Inland Ocean'. In fact, if the co-ords for WP2 of the GC cache are obtained these caches are in the same area. We did this one, left to do Inland Ocean, and had to return again to the same area. Incredible view and amazing to find a grave with views to die for. Took a dog & left a soldier. TFTC

01-Sep-10
absolute magic weather today (as the picture shows) Very Happy
I had a lovely trip up from Hobart and thought I would drop in and grab this one on my way north
'Universally Respected' is a rather impressive thing to have on your headstone! Cool
Thanks for the cache robtas

07-Jul-10
Found this one just on sunset. This is a brilliant spot at this time of day. I sharpened the pencil with my pocket knife and then accidentally left it there. Never noticed i was missing it until the next morning. We were staying just around the road so i raced back to the spot and luckily it was still there frozen to the rock.

07-Mar-10
Great cache thanks. The views are amazing and the day couldnt of been better, sun was shining and was quite hot, suprising for this part of Tas. TNLN.

23-Jan-10
Got it at 1645hrs and had been here dozen of times before but did not know that the memorial existed. Thanks for a new experience in a familiar area. TFTC and cheers OldSaint

Found on the way to the adjacent GC cache.

Have been to this spot before when you could actually walk on the Original dam wall, good to see a decent amount of water this time,
Thought we might have seen a snake on the way to the Memorial today but none were found,
Cheers robtas

05-Jan-10
Found along with a GC cache nearby.
