Description
Spooky Beach ~ A N G O U R I E ~ |
Spooky Beach (or Spookies) is located at Angourie, a short trip south from Yamba. It's still a reasonably quiet place that hasn't drawn the tourists like Yamba has, but in my opinion this beach has it all over any beach at Yamba. Not only is it quiet, there is ample parking - even for bigger vehicles. It's one of those few beaches with shade. Plenty of shady pandanus trees to sit under - right on the sand - as you listen to the noisy ocean. It's not particularly clear why it's called 'Spooky Beach'. Some have found the nearby rainforest a bit 'spooky'. Others say it's the noise that the ocean makes here. (Angourie is derived from an aboriginal word meaning 'noisy ocean'). The unique swell and waves here are also called 'spookies' - but there is nothing spooky or eerie about this place. It's peaceful and serine. There's a shop with supplies only 5 minutes away, and why not take a walk down to the Blue Pool - an old quarry that has since filled with water and is a favourite place to have a dip in fresh water. |

I thought we'd find this one easily based on similar ones we'd found but no, another MattyRx failure on our behalf. It's probably a good thing we go home tomorrow, it will save us any more embarrassment
Our last find in the Yamba area for a bit (we've run out now!) as we head home tomorrow. After spotting the CCSSS cache at Brooms Head, this one stood out on approach, and after a slow year of visits was seized shut.... We eventually got it open without use of tools, but I was about to head back to the car for something to tap it with. The attachment system is really feeling the salt air, and looks to be at the end of its life too.... Nice cache BTW, you've given us some ideas! TFTC!!
We then continued down to the beach for a paddle and to watch the few brave swimmers.
As much as we love to support the GCA website it seems a pity that these aren't GC caches where so many more cachers could experience them
Thanks.
